"Yoga for Stress Relief"

So I bought this and tried it and hate it. I am forever trying to make myself like yoga but I just don't think I ever will. This one was so boring. I tried the 20 minute section for neck and shoulder relief and it consisted of lying on the floor with my head on a blanket trying to "breath through my shoulders". Riiiiiggghhhttt. *said with pinky to mouth a la Dr. Evil*

Anyone have this dvd and like it? Should I try other segments or should I just give up? I also bought "Yoga for Happiness" (or something like that) which I have yet to even try. Am I doomed to hate yoga forever?

I haven't tried the "Yoga for Stress Relief" that you mentioned. If it has other segments, I'd try those. Who's the instructor?

Is the "Yoga for Happiness" DVD Eion Finn's "Power Yoga for Happiness"? If it is, I think you'll find it to be anything but boring. Eion has a very playful style. That's one of my favorite yoga DVD's.

Hi Allison,

I have _Yoga for Stress Relief_, and I also find the pace to be kind of slow. For me, though, that can be a good thing since I tend to become a stress-case really easily!

Another DVD that you might like better is the _AM/PM Stretch_ with Madeleine Lewis. It's a little more active than _Yoga for Stress Relief_ since you're moving around a lot more and not just lying there for so much of the time, although it's still definitely not power yoga.

Have you also thought about trying Kundalini yoga? Ravi Singh and Ana Brett have some fun DVD's that might be worth trying!

HTH!

Yep, that's the one! Ok, I'll try that one next. Maybe I'll like it better. I like to move around in yoga.

Brian Kest has a series that is okay. I think I got it to drool over him though:p He has this long tangly hair, his face is amazing, and yeah the bod ain't too bad either!

But frankly, yoga tapes drive me insane for some reason, and they always do a number on my low back, because I "compete" with everyone on the tape, trying to do the advanced poses right away-thus rendering the whole workout both spiritually and physically ineffective:p Maybe I will try again, but frankly,I would rather stretch for 30 minutes using Cathe's Stretchmax or something, and then take a hot bath. That can be relaxing and "centering" right??:7

Allison,

I also just got Power Yoga for Happiness. I've done the Magically Bliss practice and Total Bliss and loved them both. He does great hip openers. If you want something that will really make you happy and relieve stress, Altar of the Heart does it for me. This has great music and scenery and Tilak's not bad to look at either.:)

I have the STress Relief DVD. Is that the one with Dr. Baxter Bell? I did the Stress relief portion and disliked it also. I think it's meant as a restorative practice to do after a particularly long stressful day at work before bed.

The other practice on it isn't too bad for a 35 minute practice, but it's not my favorite.

Eion's Power Yoga for Happiness is one of my favorite DVDS and if you find it easy..........then you are one heck of a woman. He moves and Eion's my favorite instructor. I love him! and like anything he puts out.

Another good one that keeps you moving with tons of options and breathtaking scenery is Yoga Shakti with Shiva Rea.

or........if you really want a kick butt workout....try one of Mark Blanchard's. He's tough. I can't even do his yoga on a rest day. His yoga is more like a workout and would need to be done in place of a workout for me. I can barely make it thru one after a workout. I remember doing one of his 90 minute ones when I was doing a P90X rotation....and did it after KenpoX and my legs were a shaking!

www.progressivepoweryoga.com

he also has one DVD for sale at Collage that you can preview. You want tough.......go for Mark.

Thanks, Lora!!!

I know this might sound creepy but I read your "Hardcore Fitness Maniacs" check-in every day and love hearing about all of the yoga workouts you do. You're one of the main reasons I've looked into yoga!!

RE:

I think a lot of people "lurk" over at Hardcore. No big deal. I don't mind.

However, I will say that when I first got into yoga, I had to move and do all of the hard ones, but since I had that stress fracture in my foot and couldn't do flow yoga for a while, I was doing the calmer Hatha type of practices and I couldn't understand how I did all of the harder stuff before with my regular workouts!! LOL.....now, on the other hand....I did part of Yoga Shakti the other day and since I haven't done sun salutations for a while, all of the up dog, down dogs felt extremely good and Shiva's Dancing Warrior series are really nice cuz she adds some shoulder opening work into her flows. She also adds some shoulder and hip openers into her standing pose flow. I find some of the segments on Yoga Shakti to leave me feeling very good.

Stop reading and go do the Magically Hips Premix on PY4 Happiness with Eion and your hips will thank you!

Pop in any time to talk about yoga at Hardcore!

Allison, Inhale is a show on Oxygen in the mornings and I just love it . It's taught by Steve Ross and the music is fabulous and the poses are great. He doesn't have a DVD so you'd have to get up to do it or TIVO it like I do. It's the only yoga I like besides going to a Bikram class in person.
