Yoga/flexibility training recommendations

Hi everyone!! I'm wanting to add some yoga or some type of flexibility training into my workout rotation. I've never really tried any of it and I don't know what is the best and how often to do it. I was thinking one day a week would be a good start. Can anyone recommend a favorite yoga dvd or instructor?

You need to start off slow otherwise you can hurt yourself. I highly recommend Rodney Yee beginner DVDs. This is Iyengar yoga BTW. You can find them at gaiam.com. You need to start off with the basic poses first. The workouts are only 20 min. & I suggest you do it 2x a week instead of 1. Once the poses become easy & your able to go deep into your poses its time to work towards another DVD & start in on more intense poses. I'd also recommend highly Karen Voight's Yoga Sculpt & then graduating to her next DVD which is called Yoga Focus. HTH, Kathy:D

I have most of the Yoga Journal yoga series with Patricia Walden and Rodney Yee, and I just love them!!

I like Karen Voight's Yogasculpt and bodywisdommedia's DVD called Yoga for Athletes (I got this at the Sports Authority). The latter's pace is quite slow but if you are after form pointers, this is it.:) And it has a great menu from which you can choose a sport -- I choose weightlifting -- and from there another menu where you pick a workout, some of them tailored for a body part or a time frame in which you can stretch your whole body.

Bryan Kest's Power series is fantastic but he's a little too advanced for someone who's never done yoga. I'd recommend anything by Karen Voight, as her instruction is clear and her form perfect, as well as anything put out by Yoga Zone.

If you are just starting out, I would recommend Suzanne Deason's Yoga for Weightloss. It is a beautiful calm program which shows various levels of the poses throughout the workout. Its great for someone learning. Also Yoga Zone's Introduction to Yoga with Alan Finger is excellent for learning the proper form, he is very descriptive. I would not recommend Bryan Kest until you have mastered these more basic workouts.
