Anyone find a yoga dvd that isn't so calming, or strange(JMO). I would like to find one that has normal music and just does the poses. More upbeat. I had a ginam one and it drove me crazy. I am just not into it.I need to increase my flexibility. I have been really tight lately.Too many weights.

I don't like the calming sleepy music ...I am wierd...
I have viewed a bunch at colage and nada...
I don't want one that says put you in one with the planet or anything like that.
Ideas or reccomendations appreciated...
I just want plain straight out yoga stretches...
Thanks in advance....for any imput.

Anne- I think your best bet would be anything entitled "Athletic" yoga or stretching. Cathe has Stretch Max, and you might be interested in the Firm's Power Yoga.

Good luck!

I had the firms. It is ok,not waht i am looking for. I have stretch max.I have 99% of Cathye's DVD's except for like the wedding one and way begening...2 or 3.
Something a little more into it than the firm ( More intense work)and Cathe's. I did Cathe's today...

I have seen quite a few yoga dvds and I noticed Rodney Yee has a wide selection. I bought a few of his vhs tapes and also some dvds about five years ago and I can do stretches I couldn't do when I was a teenager. It took a while though.;-)

maybe something from yoga zone. they are not really challening workouts but provide good yoga postures, that focus on flexbility. i just pickedup caribbean workouts yoga for dirt cheap at wal-mart as well. they are from the show so you have a few pauses where a commerical would be but then it goes right back to where you left off. with both of these the segments are short, about 20 minutes each, but provide a pretty good relaxing workout if you wanted to mix and match.

i find bryan kest really good, he is more about intuning with your body and relaxing everything within your body. i believe baron bapstiste is along the same lines but i never tried only read about. HTH

Ann,

Sometimes we have to take the good with the bad, pick and choose.

Have you tried Wai Lana Yoga? Beautiful sets, her calming music is wonderful, (you need that so you can consentrate on the moves), and she gets to the point. There are many to choose from. Her videos are so colorful, as well as she. I don't see her in the forum discussions I think because she is so very different, but good.

This is probably not what you had in mind, but just a thought.

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

Anne,

I think you might like the MTV Yogas as they have good music, nothing new age or too "out there" as you say.

Also, the P90X, YogaX (90 min. although this is a workout in itself and isn't just "stretches" but is challenging) or StretchX (about 60 min. and much more just plain stretching).

Also, there are some DVD's that allow you to turn the music off and just have the cues, or even turn both off and just follow the stretches.

HTH,
Mattea

If you want "good yoga" it very often comes with the strange or mystic. Having said that Power Yoga for happiness with Eoin Finn is not a bad choice. I like him because he does not take himself too seriously and has a bit of quirkiness about him.It has about 5 premixes and you can choose one depending on how much time you have. Shiva Rea is one of my favorites, but be forewarned, she is very into her yoga. The setting and quality of the DVD is breathtaking and she really knows her stuff. My favorites are Lunar, Solar, and Sun Salutations. These three DVD are taken from her Yoga Shaki DVD. I like them because the practices are shorter. I have neither the time or concetration for a 90 minute session. The three separte DVD's average session is anywhere from 20-40 minutes. Good luck in your search. I find my back pain in nonexsistant when I am faithful with my yoga practice. I just wish I enjoyed it as much as my adrenalin heart pounding aerobic workouts.

I second the MTV Yoga and Power Yoga DVDs. After attemping Rodney Yee and a couple of others without success, I really took to these. That being said, the Power Yoga is fast enough that if you don't genuinely know how you're supposed to be doing the poses, you may hurt yourself... or go completely the other direction and get nothing out of it. Form is everything. That I know from experience :D.

The woman who instructs these videos also recently came out with her own independent DVD (her name is Kristen McGee) that I really, really like.

This one is pure and simple yoga..I guess you can watch both parts at the same time the modified and advanced.
I just need to get some flexibility back. From lifting so much i am really lacking on flexibility lately..
If i hate it , oh well another 27 bucks down the drain.
I will check out the others.
