Workout Warriors Jan 31 - Feb 6

Ok, where is everyone!!! Knock...knock.....

I shoveled 3x yesterday and got up and went up about 6:30 this morning and did another 40 minutes, and called it my workout for the day. :p DH went out when he got up and finished it, but didn't go to work because wasn't feeling that great. Which equates to him being more than a bit irritable and not fun to be around.

Getting my stuff together for the retreat. Since I'm shopping tomorrow and need to leave as soon as DH gets home from work, I want to be all packed up ahead of time.

Very bright, sunshiny day here today. Definitely helps. :D

Hi Cathy

I hope you can get the grocery shopping done, and make your getaway before the roads become too dark.

So............

EAT A LOT OF CHOCOLATE!

5 days to go - bwhahahahaha:D:D:D

p.s. your pic of sparky and DH was cute. Glad you have sunshine today.

:D

Good Morning ALL!

Janis- yes the political unrest is Egypt is very difficult. I truly hope that this situation resolves so that most of the Egyptian people are happy. I have spent considerable time in Egypt and have come to know the people and country well and I am hoping for the best. Egypt has numerous antiquities and I hope that those are being safe-guarded. It would be horrendous if any of these were lost and damaged. You lost weight even though you have been eating more. Sometimes eating more does contribute to weight loss especially if you usually eat in a particular calorie range. I tend to vary my caloric intake and carb intake throughout the week.

Cathy- many of the languages that I teach are ancient languages and are no longer spoken in the modern world (ie Ugaritic, Akkadian, Sumerian, Latin, Egyptian). Aramaic is spoken in a few scattered places, and modern Hebrew is spoken in Israel. Of all the languages that I teach I speak Hebrew on a regular basis. I hope that you have a fruitful retreat. When I did STS, I did the squat rack legs for my leg routine and used Plyo legs as cardio workouts.

Kimberly have fun in Arizona!

Yikes- more snow today and tomorrow!

workout yesterday evening- Supreme 90- Back and biceps and Yee- Yoga Burn
workout this am- Supreme 90 Legs and I will do cardio this afternoon

Have a great weekend.

Hey girls! So I was sort of a slug the last two days... I woke up Wednesday with all intentions of running, but school was closed and I was working from home... so I ended up logging on to my work account and got into something, then I got hungry and ate. I wanted to give my stomach some time to digest before running, but then I was cold and took a hot shower.... and I didn't run at all.

Yesterday was a scheduled "rest" day for running, and Coach Jenny says "if you miss a day of training, consider that day a loss and just do what's scheduled for the next day", so I rested again. LOL. But I got back on track with a vengeance this morning. 40 minute run with increasing speed up to the end, then after the cool-down, I did my 4 30-second sprint, 1 minute walk, intervals.

Next Saturday I'm doing a Climb for Air event here at the building where I work. We'll be climbing the 40 flights of stairs to raise money for the Lung Association. I'm really just doing it because I've been working in this building for almost 6 years and have always wanted to climb the stairs, but they don't allow it for security reasons. We have to use the elevators, unless there's a fire drill. And even then, we only go down them.

I was thinking about it this morning and wondering "how does one dress for a stair climb up 40 flights"? Should I wear my running clothes? What would you wear? I have to be somewhat conservative, since there will be people I work with also climbing. Running shorts and a t-shirt? Coworkers don't get to see my sexy 6-pack. LOL - I like to remain mysterious to them. :)

Hi Everyone,

Super quiet around here. I hope everyone is well and has gotten dug out.

Regina - It's amazing how well calorie cycling works. I adhered to 3 low days, one moderate, and one at TDEE while I was following BFFM. (I think I have a full year of excel diet-diary spreadsheets!) Inspired by Kimberly, and her journey with Atkins, last week I added a little more fat to my diet. It has kept me satiated enough my snacking was fairly tame even though I felt like I was eating non-stop, and this week - no snacking urges. Yes, Egypt's treasures and antiquities need to be safe-guarded....***heavy sigh***....I read that there was looting of the museums....I, too, hope the most important items are being protected.

Donna
- 40 flights! Whoo- hoo! What a work out that will be. Work appropriate exercise attire - hmmmm....I'd go with heat/moisture wicking pants and layers on the top; the stairwell is sure to get steamy! Have you seen the cute running skirts/skorts? I like them, a lot, and might have to get a pair. Seems like the perfect combination of covering the assets while providing ease of movement. This is your recovery week, for both body and soul, you probably needed two days off in a row! :D

Hi MJ, Kimberly, Kim, Mary, Elena, Tara, Jenn, Suzie and Melissa.

As for me: Today I ran on the treadmill...loosely following Couch to 5k...I walked 10min to warm up, then ran 2min, walked 1 min for a total of 27 minutes, I followed that up with STS Total Body (great workout) and then Rowan and I went for a vigorous 3 mile mixed-terrain hike in the woods.

Tomorrow I am doing rehab (bike, isolation, stretching) and then Alisa Wyatt's Advanced Pilates. The Star is still difficult lifting the leg up on my right side, but I am getting there. :)

Have a fabulous Friday night.
:D

Happy Weekend Warriors!

It has been quiet around here, looks like I am not the only one to get run over by life this week. Ended up taking both Thurs & Fri as rest days..grrr. Anyway, played tennis this morning before rain came. Now I am restless around the house with not much to do. Will do a C25K and STS tonight.

Janis- Good job on keeping up with your workouts and rehab. You will be stronger and healed soon. Thanks for having my back, I am going to need it this year.

Cathy- Hope you enjoy your retreat! Loved the snow pictures.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Hey Peeps : Hope you're all cool, that's a metaphorical cool as I know the most of yous are bloody freezing.

OK, to business. Huge hurdle for me as y'day I started with STS Meso 1, Disc 1, W/O 1.

I WAS BRILLIANT

Right, Brilliant, may be a slight exaggeration  but on the plus side I am still alive. Press ups are just not my thing. I set myself a goal in 2010 to increase my frequency and ability with those and really improve my technique and strength and be my best ever. But I conveniently forgot all about that by 2nd Jan, so that's pretty much still on the list. However, I loved it. I expected to be able to endure it. Tolerate it even but to actually enjoy it. What a bonus.

Today not so great. I've developed a cough. I NEVER get ill, so its lunchtime already and I've not fitted in my cardio yet. I have plans, but will they come to fruition????? I had to go on a girls' night last night. I used to love all this, but the girls have now very definitely become women and I've been bored to a stupor all too often on previous encounters. I was sooo tired and didn't want to go, but I don't like letting people down so I went (grumble grumble grumble), got home really late and didn't wake up til 10a.m., so I'm all behind today.

Donna when you get your breath back, let us know how the stair climb went :D

Cathy when you've retreated and are home safe get w/o 1 under your belt so we can syncronize. Look forward to hearing how your trip went and how you are doing with the snow.

Regina I'm really hoping those antiquities are being safeguarded. This is a huge worry.

DD has been a little star for me this week. She had a day off on Fri and unexpectedly arrived at work. The buzzer went and I looked through the viewer never expecting to see her there looking like a frightened little rabbit. She'd made muffins. A month ago I'd have said she never cooks, but since the turn of the year she wants a little ritual of cooking every Wednesday. This is fantastic. She does all the shopping for it (clearing up too?? Come on that would be a miracle). This week though as she was at home Fri she wanted to do the dinner then too. So that was 2 nights + muffins. Now I spend most 23.55 hours in every 24 trying my best to avoid and resist carbs, so I don't expect them to chase me up the hill to the office. But what you gonna do?? So I scoffed it up. Once it was gone, it wasn't there to tempt me right. Just had the rest of the batch at home to worry about then.

Saw this over at O/D - I've hardly looked on there in 2 weeks but this struck a chord with me. I too used to do it high jog and now I started doing it on the spot. I'm just so nervous these days about a collision with the step and it does shunt forward as you tap tap tap on it.

Stay toastie everyone.
Happy Sunday.
Love Kim xx
We went to Hobbycraft y'day. Do you have Hobbycraft?? Great way to empty your wallet if you're looking for one.

Happy Weekend Warriors!

I did a half hour of half assed yoga. Does that count for a Super Bowl Sunday workout? Heading out soon to walk Rowan, after which it is dog bath time. Later I'm making thin-crust pizzas and baking some cookies for the guys, then we're watching the football game. Go Green Bay!

:D

It is nice to hear from you Kim. MJ - thanks for your encouraging words re: my injury. Slow and steady wins the race and all that!

Hi Warriors,

Happy Sunday. Today I took my first yoga class. It was nice. I think I will be doing it for the next 6 weeks as that is how long the course is. After yoga was Zumba.

Yesterday I did KCM 30 minutes to fitness, weights workout. I did both workouts and also enjoyed it. And I'm working on learning Patrick's Not Your Mommas Step. It has quite the learning curve but I like complex step.

We also had a surprise party for my mom who just turned 60.

Hope everyone has had a great weekend. Off to grocery shop.

Got back from the retreat just after noon today. Had a great time. Little sleep Friday night as we had a snorer in our dormitory side! She slept though. She didn't stay Saturday night, so we all slept far better. Only 5 of us Saturday night, and we just sat around and talked and knitted (4 of 5) until almost midnight.

Donna the 40 flight climb sounds fun! Those boys and I were driving through downtown Lansing the other day and they were remarking about how tall the buildings were. Made me realized how little we've done in the realm of big cities. May be the capital here, but I don't think there's anything over 10-12 stories high. I was trying to explain how much higher buildings could be and they were having a hard time fathoming it.

Kim, I'm starting STS tomorrow and doing it M-W-F. Going to print out my workout cards after this. What I'm not looking forward to is all those push-ups!!! in Meso 1.

I actually have an easier time doing the straddle taps than fast feet shuffle. For the latter I usually put my step directly on the floor and then I can do it.

Janis, I actually ended up eating pretty good at the retreat. I think throughout the whole weekend I never had more than 10 of those little heart shaped Dove chocolates total. Oh, there were those brownies, too, but they were cut into pretty tiny pieces. Oh, and the funnest food of the weekend, someone made cookies in the shape of breasts. Perfect for a breastfeeding support group, and they were quiet realistic looking - and tasty. :p

Half-assed is better than nothing! No Super Bowl watching here.

I think you had me starting no sugar on the 8th which is Tuesday, but I'm actually going to start tomorrow. Easier for me start things on a Monday. Got my plan and just need to put it into action!

Jenn I'm glad you enjoyed the yoga class. How is it going from something relaxing to them going to Zumba. Is it hard to shift gears in that direction?

In the realm of, brain not communicating with itself, I had put together my rotation through May 21 and I always start my rotations on Sundays. That way if I'm taking a rest day, it's on Saturday. One side of my brain recognized that this was retreat weekend and didn't plan to work out. The other part, set up the rotation as I normally would - starting on Sunday with cardio.

I had finished adding all the workouts into my spreadsheet and printed it and was printing out my workout cards for the week, when I noticed that I had started the spreadsheet on February 6 (yes, today) AND I was supposed to do CCC plus 300 walking lunges. I noticed this at 4:38. The idea of not starting according to my spreadsheet made me go  I just hate the thought of not following it and especially on the first day.

So, I actually sucked it up and did it. And I managed. Not the prettiest version I've done of it, but done it was. Then I had the bright idea to do the walking lunges with 5 lb hand weights. That lasted for the first 100 and then I ditched them.

At least now, I'm off to a proper start.
