Workout Warriors Jan 31 - Feb 6

wake up eager

Cathlete
Hope it is okay to be the one to get this week's check-in started... (since I'm a newbie here).

Just skimmed through last week's posts - I was MIA - but boy did I enjoy reading everyone.

I agree KadetKim is a talent beyond talents and I for one can;t wait to read her first (and second) book. I came across a quote the other day - something like "Writing's easy, just sit down and open a vein..." Maybe me laugh - cause I find it IS like that... especially when you want it to be good. But, KadetKim -YOU have a TON of natural talent. I hope you follow it, it is a gift.

I love seeing the photos of adorable puppies and model-worthy daughters.

Last week was a blur again, personally and professionally---all good though. Also, I had an active recovery week - which I needed. Always messes with my head a bit when I take a break----but I know it is needed when I start feeling dread. So, taking a few days of low-key movement is EXACTLY what I needed.

Battery is running out ---will go plug in and check back later.

All the best to all,
Suzie

A new week a new beginning - Happy Monday Warriors!

Suzie – Thanks for starting this week's thread! No one is a newbie, this is OUR check-in to post whatever we have to say, whenever we have time to say it. :):):)

Cathy – Glad you were able to locate your planner. That would be like losing your brain, so inconvenient and disorienting. Schlepping back in to town to get it – not so great, can your husband pick it up for you or does he work in a different town?

Donna – YUM, your bison burger sounded scrumptuous. Sometimes you just have to have a juicy burger; I read somewhere bison is really lean, something like 90/10. How thoughtful and kind of you to share with your stressed out BF. I cracked up too, at the end of Tonique Mat when she grabs her butt and says it is a delicious apple or peach, or whatever she said. I did feel some soreness, surprisingly, on Sunday, but it was a different kind of sore, subtle.

Kim – After I figure out the GMT-7, I’ll be with you in spirit!

Mary – Big (((HUGS))). Welcome home. The Cirque de Soliel Totem show, with such good seats, what a treat! Simon really loves you, too. Did you soak up the time you had together? Will you be able to see him again, soon? How very kind of you to courier Kim’s STS to her. That’s what I love about Cathletes, we just know we can trust and depend on each other even though we have never met. :)

Kimberly – I think you, Mary, Jenn, and Cathy are in the path of this big storm! New snow on top of the snow you still have on the ground! Are you making preparations? Stocking up on fuel, food, etc..? Sounds like it could be nasty. On the coping side – you could do Imax2 again and rejoice when you get to the Pina Colada song.:D:D

Jenn and Regina – Hi ya!

MJ – I miss you!
Tara – I miss you too!
Elena and Melissa – Are you still with us?

Last week, when I went to log on to Nutrition Manager, the site was down. La la la la – life goes on, not quite old enough patterns re-surge and here we are a week later, with the scale wavering upward and me being completely unaccountable for how much I eat. Still no sugar, cookies, chocolate, processed foods – chips etc, even so… for me…not logging it means hogging it.

Speaking of food, somehow (probably because I ate it all) Mother Hubbard's cupboard is becoming bare, so after I do 30 min of Couch to 5k and lift to STS Total Body, I am heading down the curvy mountain to the bigger city to do a mega-grocery shop. DH is coming with me, yay!, which means he’ll do a lot of the loading and unloading.

Yesterday I did Rodney Yee’s, Yoga Burn and was a hog, it was cold, rainy and gross out, so extra comfort food was required.

That's it for me.
:D

Hey Everyone!

Here is the url for the last page of last week's thread.

Regina - I think you should purchase Alisa Wyatt's Advanced Pilates. It is classical Pilates from beginning to end, the whole mat routine - no stopping. You probably have enough core strength to master the advanced with no problem.

Donna - I am glad you like Alisa Wyatt. Yeah - I was capable of doing more advanced Pilates, but after being bed-ridden with my iliopsoas injury I figured I better start from the beginning and learn Pilates correctly. How sweet that your daughter doesn't want you to run outside. My Orthopedic doc kept trying to convince me to take up road cycling and give up running, my response was always, "Are you kiddin' I'll get hit by a car!" Which, unfortunately, happens too frequently around here.

I ended up doing Higher Reps today. My resistance band broke while doing the one arms rows, then it broke a second time doing the bicep curls. It made a loud balloon popping sound, scared the crap out of me. Thankfully I ordered a new one a couple of weeks ago, so I have one already to go.

Off to clean the cat box, yuck, and go grocery shopping, yum.
:D

Donna, I find with STS it really helps me to go through all the weight selections and make notes in the note section of the workout card as to how much weight I need to add.

Figuring we'll be stuck at home from Tuesday evening through Thursday noon or so based on what we're supposed to get and the blowing. We'll probably shovel out Wednesday and have it blown back in before Thursday a.m. and do it again. Planning to reschedule Derek's appt that morning to get his braces adjusted. All I know is that I'm leaving for the retreat when DH gets home on Friday, so everything better be clear by then! We're all set with food through Friday.

Regina you're going to test me now. :p I believe the 9 wars were all pre-Civil War and they all took place in Michigan. Things like the Beaver Wars and the Blue Jacket War.

Janis I probably won't get my planner until Friday now because of the storm. No sense in DH going to get it as it's probably 25 minutes (after work traffic) for him to go there and then he's that much farther from home. I'm going over that way Friday to shop.

Oh, and if you didn't see what I posted on last weeks thread...no workout for me to day, as I had a restless night helping Derek through his restless night!

Yesterday I did Zumba. It was awesome. The instructor had some new tunes and moves. This morning I did Kettlebell Way volume 1, rounds 8-14 and the first section of Core Fusion Bootcamp.

Regina I also live in NY. Not looking forward to the snow.We are expected to get hit Tuesday and Wednesday. Booty Barre is my only Tracey Mallet workout but I am interested in her Pilates one.

Janis the cat box is DH's job. I won't touch it. YUK!

To everyone getting hitting with snow be safe and careful.

Hi Warriors-

Sorry I have been MIA (Janis, thanks for the missing me shout out ;))...its been a tough week work wise and then from a personal side its been a tough week full of lots of thinking about the relationship I am in. I have some decisions to eventually make and its weighing on me pretty heavily.

Anyway, managed to stay up on the C25k runs and with tennis. STS and cardios not so much. So I decided to end January as just a get back to doing things month, which was actually pretty good, but now I will start my rotation all out. Today I did 30/30 this morning and had tennis drill class tonight.

I have been reading along, even if I have been quiet, and its good to see everyone progressing along. Its another crazy week at work, but I will check in more this week. For now, its trying to get some sleep, since there is no tennis to watch into the wee hours, it should be easier. (let the tennis withdrawls begin lol)

Catch up again tomorrow. Good night.

OK seems like I've hit my stride again. Focus. I had DOMS following increasing the weights I did on Upper Body in BM2 in readiness for what's in store for me with Cathy cracking the whip starting Mon. Not had those bad boys (DOMS) for a while and they hurted sooooo good.

Yesterday was Cardio Fusion minus the blasts from BM2 as I did those the day prior. Cardio Fusion was one of my first purchases and I really wished I hadn't got it for a while as it's prevented me from getting LIS + Drill Max as there'd be a big overlap, but when you want to really damn near kill yourself you can't say you didn't get your money's worth on that one.

Today was 4DS LIS - I've only had that 5 mins as I bought it on a Discounted Download 3-4 weeks ago (I don't have anything else from 4DS as yet). I find the footwork fiddly on those routines and it's only a light sweat for me. Might experiment with increased step height next time - I'm such a scaredey on that though after coming off once too often. Not worth mangling these good looks for an coupl'a extra drops of sweat - right

Following that I did the shoulders just to punish myself because I've already done shoulders this week and then - hellooooooo I previewed one or two of the routines from STS Ab Curcuits. Cathy arrgghhhhhhhhh. No just joking actually it was great to see some totally new stuff - I'm just not gonna be knocking it out like a pro first run through.

Donna:
KadetKim so glad you’ve finally got STS in hand! I need to see if I can find my guide. I’ve never read it - lol. I’m one of those “just jump in and figure it out as I go” people. I love Medicine Ball Abs from Ab Circuits - even though I can’t do the partner drills. It’s a nice short one, so I like it for days when I’ve just had enough. I just don’t like doing it on Shoulder days.

I'm so with you on that. But just this once I done it all nice and proper. Usually I'd be off like a greyhound totally unprepared and ripping open cupboards half way through the w/o trying to find bands and gloves.

All you snow bunnies. How do you do it?? I go into total panic when the temp dips below 0 and there's even 4" of snow. Mind you, take into account I live at the top of a valley so its all hills every whichway doesn't matter where you go. Thinking of you all though. It was cold here last night. It woke me up - but I remembered Kimberly said minus 36 a week or so ago. So I gave myself a kick and tried not too feel too sorry for myself.

Regina
Kim- What, no STS for Gucci. Can he really change weight plates (smile)?
He'll be pushing me on. He doesn't take any prisoners. You know the Drill Sargent in an Officer and a Gentleman?? You just never saw him with his cap on (Gucci that is) that's how come you didn't realise.

Cathy
Kim you'll love STS - when you're not hating it.

When I'm doing STS, I generally do STS M-W-F and cardio Su-Tu-Th. Abs I put in a few times a week.
.
I'll have to do that slightly differently. I can't workout Thurs + Fri as I @ work, start @ 8a.m. don't get home til near 6p.m. Then Thurs is my dance class so I only have an hour to eat and change then I don't get to bed til 11.30, then Fri have to be up @ 6a.m., start work @ 8a.m. - don't get home til nearly 6p.m. and I'm so shattered by then Fri night is just family time.

So STS for me, prob Sat + Mon + Wed or may Mon + Tues alternating Upper with legs on consecutive days.

Suzie
I agree KadetKim is a talent beyond talents and I for one can;t wait to read her first (and second) book. I came across a quote the other day - something like "Writing's easy, just sit down and open a vein..." Maybe me laugh - cause I find it IS like that... especially when you want it to be good. But, KadetKim -YOU have a TON of natural talent. I hope you follow it, it is a gift.
Gee    Kinda missed you last week. Now I know why. You talk such sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mary
Glad you're back. And so happy for you that Cirque de Soliel was every bit as awesome as predicted. ((HUGS))

Totally amazed to see High Reps make it into the Discount Download so soon. I'd go for that for sure if I hadn't already pretty much got myself sorted for the next 3 months.

Cheers All - kiss kiss
Kim

Storm is supposed to hit here around 5:00, so DH will be able to work a full day and get home just after that. Probably won't make it in again until at least Thursday afternoon. There will be lots of Shovel Max happening.

Cat had to go out at 3:30, and I was suddenly wide awake (no clock around so I was doing that should I get up or not thing) and when I did finally get up and check the time it was UGH! However, I did get back to sleep within a reasonable time. Ended up doing IMAX 3 step combos.

Don't know if I ever explained about the cats. Technically, they aren't ours. Three of them belonged originally to the neighbors and now we share them. About 5 years ago, they got a golden retriever, very sweet, but the cats took her bouncing at them the wrong way and moved to our house. They have been outdoor cats their whole lives and are clueless about litter boxes. After our old dog died, they started coming in the house. Well two of them, the third is much to skittish to come in. They are fickle creatures and love us much more when it's cold outside. So, in the winter they will come in and stay all or most of the night, but when they gotta go, they gotta go out to do it. There is a 4th cat that showed up probably close to a year ago. He won't let us anywhere near him and just comes up and eats.

MJ I feel that way when baseball season ends like I go through major withdrawal every year.

Cathy I feel your pain with the cats! I've got 4 of them, though only 2 really hang out with us. The other 2 hang out in the back room, which is gated so the dogs can't go in. It gives the cat their buffer zone. They can go anywhere in the house they want, but the dogs can't go in there. The two that aren't bothered by the dogs wake me up nightly. If any of the doors are closed, they scratch on them trying to get them open. Drives me insane! And one of them for some reason doesn't like to use the litterbox - which REALLY makes me mad because it's an automatic cleaning one, so it's never dirty. I think she just does it because she really wants to be outside, but for safety reasons, I don't want her there. Too many wild animals and I live too close to the road. I actually only want to have 2 cats, and was down to 3... but then took the 4th one in on Halloween because it had been abandoned and was homeless for a couple months over by my daughter's friend's house. Why nobody there took her in is a mystery to me, because she's an awesome cat, but I just couldn't stand the thought of her being homeless as the weather was getting cold. People who abandon their animals just infuriate me.

Nothing too exciting on the Check In... just 40 minutes on the treadmill with Madge today (aka... Madonna - The Immaculate Collection). Great album for running - I forget how much I love that one.

Believe it or not, Buffalo is bracing for our first real storm this season. We haven't had anything greater than a foot yet, and supposedly some is on the way tonight. I guess my snow plow guy will be waking me a few times during the night.

Normally, I'm not on night cat duty, because of the dog they are shut in the boy's room at night and Nick puts them out. But, I've been in there with Derek the last two nights and apparently I hear them much quicker than he does.

Did you guys check out Cathe's February rotation? Looks really good and I think I'll follow up my round of STS with that. Speaking of which, I really need to get to work on the cardio/ab portions of my next three months since I'm starting Monday and won't be home for most of the three days before then.

We have 2 cats also. The one cat is very needy and has to be by my husband all the time. If DH goes to bed the cat follows, if he's sitting on the couch the cat has to be there. And since the cat got a taste of the outdoors when it was warmer he wants to go out but there is to much snow and cold.

Today I did KCM Circuit Burn combined workouts and Core Fusion Bootcamp Cardio Sun Salutations. Elisabeth moves through that section it is very fast paced yoga.

My rotation this month is going to be KCM 30 minutes to fitness, 10 minute add ons of my 3 new core fusions and maybe working through my virgin dvd workout pile that has grown quite high.

On good note I lost 2.5 inches overall this month, can't complain about that. But my 2lbs I thought I lost came back. I also worked 21 out of 31 days for January. Not to shabby.:D

Goals for this month are to track my eats on MY Fitness Pal more consistently than I have been. Take a 6 week yoga session at the Y. Stick to my measly weekly budget. This is the hard thing for me but I'm trying.

Good Afternoon All!

Janis - thanks- I will put 'Advanced Pilates' on my to buy list.

Cathy- I just wanted to see if you were paying attention in your history class. You passed your test (smile)!

Jenn- I was thinking about Mallet's pilates workout too.

Kim- Can you send Gucci my way? I need a good drill sergeant.

Donna and Cathy- homeless cats and other animals really get to me too.

Workout today- Supreme 90- chest, shoulders, triceps

More snow, rain and sleet today- what a wintery mess!

Peaceful Rainbow: I was checking out that rotation. Looks brutal! I am flying to AZ Feb. 24th. Might be a good way to get ready for shorts weather.

Anyone else interested in the Feb. rotation? I just did cardio core circuit and KPC so I think I would sub something else for those.

Kimberly

Hi everyone....just a quick 'hi'.
I've been sick since I got back to the states on Friday, and only worked out once on Sunday morning. So yep, I've been slacking. I'm pretty miserable and just wanna feel better waaaaaa waaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaaa. Soon I hope. ;)

Regina, if you answered, I missed it...what type of history/grade level do you teach? We saw the Churchill War Rooms in England, where he led the war effort from a basement of a new building in Whitehall. That was pretty interesting. Also did Westminster Abbey, which is really (as Simon said) just a posh cemetary. :D

Mkeefe- I hope that you feel better soon. I teach Near Eastern, Middle Eastern history to Grad students
I also teach some ancient languages- Egyptian, Akkadian, Ugaritic, Aramaic, Hebrew, Syriac. Occasionally, I may teach European or American history to undergraduates but I really do prefer teaching grad students.

Your comment about Westminster Abbey was funny! Did you go to any museums during your visit to England?

Workout this am- Karen Voight- Total Body Conditioning
workout last night- Supreme 90- Cardio challenge

Hello to everyone and have a great day!

Good Morning Warriors!

Quick check-in at work before another meeting...

Yesterday was C&W step premix in the morning and C25K run/walk and STS M1D2 back/tris. This morning I was exhausted so I chose sleep instead, will play tennis tonight if it does not rain.

Hope everyone has a good day. Will check back later.

Hi Everyone

My thoughts are with all of you dealing with too much snow and bitter cold. My thoughts are also with Kim, who had her follow-up x-ray this morning. I hope everyone is doing well.

Yesterday was rehab stuff and another vigorous walk in the vineyard with Rowan. Today I did Lower Body Blast (whole thing including standing conditioning drills on the tower). What a great workout and dvd. It compliments my rehab stuff quite well; I’m thinking of doing it on either Saturday or Sunday as part of my regular rotation.

Despite my endless eating and being unaccountable I have mysteriously lost another pound. but:)

Cathy – Brrrr. I bet you are glad to be getting out of town. Will the roads be cleared enough for you to make your getaway? How far away is the retreat?

Jenn – Your rotation plan and goals are solid – good for you! And hey, inches are a much better indicator of fitness gains and body re-composition than the ding-dang scale….this coming from the person who weighs her self daily!

MJ – High fives ^^^ girl, for keeping at it. I wish I could lighten your other burdens or at least help you carry them part-way down the road. No matter what - I got your back, 'k?

Donna – I agree, Madonna’s up-tempo songs are great to run too. It’s funny, I will happily run to (and enjoy) music that I don’t normally listen to. What have you been doing today? No school for DD I presume, are y'all snowed in?

Kimberly – AZ in the winter is heaven on earth. Where are you going? Is this trip business or pleasure? (I grew up in AZ.)

Mary – Sorry you are sick, hon. You’re having a rough go of it. Like you said last week, on the upside the days are getting longer. :)

Prof Regina - ***sighing*** < Which I bet you have been doing a lot of in the last week or so. Egypt - talk about a double edge sword. Doesn't seem like there is a positive outcome in the cards regardless of which direction this goes. Crap is all I have to say. Is your heart heavy too?

Have a good, safe, and warm Wednesday Warriors.
:D

Happy Snow Day Warriors. :D I did MMA Kick Box this morning and did a turn at Shovel Max this afternoon and will probably go out again in half an hour or so for more. We aren't even half way done yet. Didn't get as much as they were saying we would, but it's heavy enough to lift as it is!

Sparty LOVES it. He's been out romping around. He'll bound around and then land in snow that's deeper than his legs and it takes him a minute to get out of it and then off he goes again. I'll try and attach a couple pics.

Janis - the retreat is an hour away at a nature center. They are apparently owned by a church organization and so within the property they have a number of lodges. It's a great facility and we've been using it for at least 5 years now. There's an large open room, kitchen, and dormitories on both sides and 2 restrooms with showers. Unfortunately, since I can't arrive until 6:00 and DH doesn't get home until about 5:15 anyway. I'll be arriving after dark. The road within the property is narrow with some steep hills, so I hope they plow it out really well!

I've been playing with my STS rotation and the first month I've worked in most of the workouts from Cathe's February rotation just in a different order than she has and focusing on lower body. We'll see how that goes. I still have to figure out the stuff for Meso 2 & 3 yet. I think for Meso 3 I'm going to do what others have done and do both plyo legs and squat rack. Meso 2 I'll just do one leg workout and give them a break. 3 months in a row of extra leg work would definitely be too much for my knee. :(

Regina if you are teaching all those languages to you also speak them well or are you just teaching certain aspects of the languages?

Mary I hope you are feeling better soon. It's always lousy to be sick, but it always seems extra hard in middle of the winter.

MJ hoping the rain holds off for you! I really wish Mother Nature would listen to my suggestion of rain only after sundown, same with snow. Just like they had in Camelot. ;)
