Workout Warriors in the Merry Month of May

Long weekend. Friday night, plus two 10 hour days at the field. I didn't eat or drink enough Saturday and for whatever reason I've woken up about 4 a.m. the last three days!!! Sunday morning I was supposed to do Plyo Legs, but I was short on time, so I did 30/30 instead. Figured since I'm still doing Squat Rack legs Wednesday that would be a reasonable substitute. Hoping that all the standing I did burned some extra calories. I only sat for about 1 1/2 hours on Saturday. Probably double that Sunday and the rest of the time I was standing. Add in walks/jogs to the van and port-a-potties and it seems reasonable to conclude that extra calories were burned. Also, officially finished up my 12 wks of no sugar. :D

Today was Disk 31 Chest and Back and I made it up to 28 lbs for flys. I need to dig out my original workout cards and compare my weights from then to now since this is my 90% week.

Hope you all had a great weekend! Three away games this week and they are all 30-60 minutes away. Not the best time for gas to hit a new high!

Enjoy your week.

Cathy- Congrats on finishing your 12 weeks of no sugar. My no sugar challenge began on May1. Please wish me success with this endeavor! All of the clan and I went out this past weekend to celebrated my birthday and my mom’s birthday. I did not eat any cake or ice-cream! The semester is winding down and I am still reading papers. I am also beginning to work on a new article.

Yesterday I did the Asylum strength workout. I really like Asylum. The second time that I did the Speed and Agility workout I actually did worst than I did the first time. I am going to stop Asylum and officially start the rotation in a few weeks. I just wanted to try each workout at least once. I think that it will go better if I follow the official rotation.

Is anyone pre-ordering the new Cathe series?

Have a great Monday!

Hi Regina,

I actually pre-ordered Saturday night through the facebook link. Figure if I'm going to do it, there's no sense not being right there at the beginning. :p So, I actually paid off my credit card on Friday and it was at zero for a little over 24 hours. What timing. ;)

Good luck with Asylum! Looking forward to hearing your results. AND with the no sugar challenge. I'm hoping to keep going, but we'll see. The conference is next weekend and chocolate is usually free flowing.

Hi Warriors

Regina – Happy Happy Happy Birthday! You have tremendous will-power and fortitude to forgo birthday cake and ice-cream on your birthday. Does that mean you started your May 1st No Sugar Challenge a little early? Happy bday to your Mom too. Have you always celebrated your birthdays together? When I read that you had missed several workouts due to your busy workload, I was truly surprised. You must have felt like a fish out of water. Do you take the summer off from teaching? What are you plans this summer?

Cathy – Congrats Congrats Congrats on completing your 12 weeks. I hope you enjoy the yoga dvds and book, I’m glad they arrived in a timely manner. Do you remember that book? I seem to remember you checking it out of your library several times. Your weekend concession stand marathon certainly sounds like it burned tons of extra calories. Are you looking forward to your delivering your presentation at the LLL conference? Will there be breast shaped cookies at this conference? :p

MJ – There are so many races now, tons more than I can ever recall. The races at Disneyland, Disneyworld etc.. do look like fun, so do all the theme based races for that matter. Slow and steady though. I think a few more 5k’s under our belt is in order before we launch into 10ks and Half’s. How is your pre-tennis camp rotation going?

Kim – Thank you for the American English/British English cliff-notes primer, it is much appreciated. I didn’t watch the royal festivities, but I did catch a few photo spreads of some fabulous hats and precious little girls. I want ballet flats with Swarovski crystal straps. Do you think you could arrange that? How is your garden coming along? Mine is not happening at the moment. It doesn’t help that Mr. Rowan Red Spoo chewed up the irrigation in his spare time. How’s Gucci? More importantly have you done any workouts?

Kimberly
– Are you out there?

As for me – 'twas a busy Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I took both Sat and Sun as rest days. This week my rotation is circuits, so today I did BM2 for the very first time and loved it! And hey, MJ, I didn’t do too bad with the stepping portion. I had a few confusing seconds here and there, but I pulled through and I think I can safely call it a success. Tomorrow (Tuesday) I am running on the dread-mill.

Let’s talk socks. I love Thorlo and also this pair I have not been able to replace or find duplicates of called, “The Wright Sock”. It has a nifty little arch compression section, which I love, although for thin socks they make my feet sweat like crazy. I’m always looking for good socks. What does everyone wear for running, stepping, biking, plyo, tennis etc...?

Oh, and YES, I did pre-order Cathe's new series, what a deal!

Yay! It’s May, we’re sure to have nice weather now.
:D

This morning was 4DS HIS cardio. I'm so feeling overwhelmed this week. Three baseball games all on the road and trying to get all my ducks in a row for the conference. I just go the list of volunteers for the conference yesterday and I normally have two weeks to set them up. Not a few days! So, I'm taking deep breaths. Yesterday I consolidated all the silent auction stuff into less boxes and today I'll work on the volunteers.

Janis I fully intend to put all the yoga stuff you sent to good use during my rest week! It's only 1 1/2 weeks away now. I've decided to do nothing but yoga/stretching the whole week. I'm really feeling the need right now. I'm also hoping that I can take that week and build on it and get back to my extra 15-20 minutes a day of stretching.

I too only saw some photos of the royal wedding. Everything looked beautiful and I really hope that things work out well for them.

I've had a friend who ran at Disneyland. I think they went down in January for the race. She's done both half and full marathons, so I don't remember what she did there, but I know she had a lot of fun.

So Rowan is a destroyer of hoses, too? Sparty did in one when we first got him and them spent the next week or so dragging the pieces around the yard as toys, and I'm not talking small pieces!

Oh, and his friend the basset hound is on the loose again. Guy stopped by before 8:00 to let me know, so I put Sparty out and we'll keep an eye out for him. Apparently, he took him out in the middle of the night and Gunther (the dog) saw/heard something and broke away and was gone.

So what is everyone up to today?

Hello All warriors,

Janis- yes I started my sugar challenge early. Yes, Mom and I usually celebrate our birthdays together. I am usually off the summer but I am going to teach this year. When I do not exerecise, I do feel like a fish out of water but I think that the days off did me good. I like BM2 but have not done it in a long while. I use to do it all the time. BM2 has some really good premixes.

Cathy- during one of my active recovery weeks in STS, all I did was Yoga and loved it. So far, so good with my no sugar challenge. I am actually feeling pretty good.

I have been getting home from work late last week and this week so my regualr exercise schedule has been interrupted. I hope to get back on schedule soon.

Have a Great Evening!

Janis I totally forgot to comment on the breast shaped cookies. ;) I doubt there will be any because the food will be provided by the conference center. I can just imagine the look on the organizer face if we asked for some.:p

Regina I'm glad to here the yoga week worked out well for you. It's not something I've done yet on a rest week. Yay on the great start to your no sugar challenge!

Forgive me Warriors for I have sinned.
It has been 4 weeks since my last confession.

I was a total failure at the no-sugar challenge. In fact I did better in the 2-3 weeks build-up when I was weaning myself off it, so I've dumped April and started again 1st May.

I've been invited to one of these market research focus groups tonight about slimming clubs. I have no experience of slimming clubs but they give you £40 just to turn up and share your opinions - and I'm not short of opinions LOL :D:eek:

A couple of people will be chosen to do a one month trial of Weight Watchers or Slimming World (or which ever one it is) - I doubt if I'll be selected as doubtless there will be some very much LARGER LADIES in attendance. I'd actually love to do it though to shift these extra 10lbs. They usually give you a plate of munchies to chow down on, on arrival - perhaps if I gorge on that before we start ,it may add a few lbs to my wobbly bits and convince them that I'm a valid contender. Just Joshing - NO SUGAR CHALLENGE.

I'll let y'all know tomorrow about how that went down.

I find I'm very excited about Cathe's new w/os and the £40 is already earmarked to go towards treating myself to some of those. In the meantime I've been storming through the w/os I bought in the sale, which I've only just got round to being able to use.

Just can't believe we have just over a week to go on STS. I caught up with disc 26 that I was out of step on (forgive the pun) but again this week I've swerved the legs (disc 29) due to time pressures. I didn't think I'd enjoy these plyo legs - not sure why I was prejudiced against them - but I'm loving them and will probably include them into my normal rotations in the future. No Cathy I'm not doing the squat rack also - I don't have those extra discs :(

Better do some work - I'll be back tomorrow

Kim xxx

This morning was squat rack legs. Trust me Kim Plyo Legs is much more fun! I used my rest times to stretch and stretch.... I really need another pair of 10 lb weight plates and I'm hinting for Mother's Day. I maxed out my bar and what weight I could add to my body for squats and was still 1 1/2 lbs short of what I was supposed to use.

Looking forward to here how your focus group went. That seems like a lot of money to pay people for something like that, is that common there?

Ok, so I haven't gotten on the scale since I started the No Sugar Challenge, but I did this morning. I did tell you all that my body is VERY good at maintaining weight. I was down a whole pound. While no sugar has other benefits, weight loss isn't one of them for me.

Hey Cathy I'm pretty sure that with dedicated 'no sugar' maintenance I will see a significant movement on the scale. I always have before. I may not have impressed upon you just how addicted I am. This is beyond a struggle for me, but I've done it successfully in the past - it's just getting over the initial cravings. I'm guessing that with your vegan lifestyle you don't include a whole lot of fats in your daily diet so there's not a great margin for reduction.

In February I had to undergo some breast screening as they found a shadow on a routine mamogram. I went for the tests which were inconclusive at the first attempt so were repeated rather more comprehensively and the whole debacle dragged on for 4 weeks and was a bit of a fiasco but eventually proved clear. Anyway, over the last few weeks a close friend has had to endure an identical process and was awaiting her results by phone y'day afternoon. I asked her if she'd like me to go round and sit with her to await the call - which she did. It was abso-bloody-lutely horrendous as she was convinced she'd got cancer and we had to wait one and a half hours for the call which thankfully when it came was good news. What a huge ordeal that was. I was really chilled out about my own results but she was in a complete reverse mindset.

OK so last night was the focus group (yes that's the standard fee for these and for more complicated 'tasks' it can be up to £60-£70 - though 2 per year is the max as they want a comprehensive and random spread and you never get all the ones you sign up for anyway). So it was pretty much the standard deal and then at the end she called for volunteers to undertake the one month free tiral and I was the instant volunteer, then she went round persuading others to give it a go and when she got five reluctant volunteers she pulled the names out of a hat (not an actual hat) and SURPRISE not me    First come - first served as far as I'm concerned. I was furious and also slightly humilited and everyone clearly knew I was totally up for that and the lady next to me, who was selected, actually apologised to me. I went home and had a rant to DD.

I thought I'd update you on the little mices/voles I rescued. Not such a humanitarian rescue as it turned out as they died after two days, but my intervention made the whole process so much protracted. Tough call that one. Do you wrest prey off the cat in the belief that a rescue will save its life or just turn a blind eye to the inevitable and let nature take its course. It was hard to endure their suffering in the little box I'd provided to nurture them back to health.

Well that was a pretty big downer of a post.

Still looking forward to the new w/os though Yay

Kim - sorry that you were not chosen for the group. Why did she ask for volunteers and then did not select the very first volunteer? You didn't want to be in the group anyway (smile)!

Cathy- which Yoga workouts are you going to do for your recovery?

DH purchased a new SUV and we picked it up today. It is nice but it is a gas guzzling hog. He said that he wanted what he wanted regardless of the price of gas. I still have my car, that as I said before, I will drive until it absolutely dies. He off off enjoying his new toy.

I still, have not pre-ordered the new workouts. This is the second time that I am on the fence about new Cathe workouts. I will probably cave though. I am not sure that I would like Yoga workouts with Cathe, so I am a little hesitant.

Have A Great Rest of the Day!

Just popping in briefly from the conference. I now have a small bag of chocolates in my possession, but have not had any. Had too much to do this morning, so I'm putting off my last workout of M3 Week 3 until Sunday.

Again just passing through quickly. When did my life get so crazy!! Sunday I did Disk 33 Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps and today was Disk 34 Chest and Back. I'll try again tomorrow..........

Somewhere out there in the universe, I apparently created some bad karma. Derek had multiple eruptions this morning, then Nick decided to make a soup cup in the microwave - and forgot to add water. :( We were getting ready to leave for an appt, and it was over 60, so I opened up the windows to help get rid of the stench while we were gone. Then when we got back Derek went to get something out of the freezer and the container of frozen bananas came crashing out and smashed on the floor. A few more minor incidents and I got Nick to his ride for his game, and Derek to his. Then in the third inning game is stopped due to lightening.... Waiting to see if that's the end of it or if the day isn't done with us yet.

Ok, so Saturday morning after going a day short of an extra week on my no sugar challenge, I had a cinnamon roll. The conference center has a really nice spread for breakfast and I'd done well at breakfast, but a couple hours later the stuff is still there and I caved. Saturday, I was super hungry when I left the conference about 6:30, and I was really wanting Taco Bell. None near the places I passed in Grand Rapids, about another 40 minutes later, I got to a small town that had one. So, I got a couple burritos and a fruistista  Yes, I really did and it had been all those weeks since I'd had one. Then Sunday I did ok again and today I had a couple of the little chocolates I got at the conference. I gave the boys each one, too, so they can help get rid of them. Something they are quite happy to do.

My session went well, and I had a drawing between the people who were interested in the DVD Janis sent me (Jillian Michaels). We had a good discussion and everyone seemed to feel that it was helpful. Next Sunday I'm going to try one of the yoga workouts that Janis sent me. My brain's too fuzzy now to remember what they are called.

Oh, and I got a couple more 10 lb plates for my barbell for Mother's Day!! They worked very well today and will get lots of use.

So what have you all been up to?

Sorry I've been such a bad check-in person. Ever since the end of February when I got back from vacation, I've been seriously lacking in motivation. I haven't worked out this little in 20 years. ???????

I wish I was going to one of the Cathe roadtrips to audition to be in one of the new videos. That would be too cool. We thought about going to New Jersey, but there was some talk about Chicago so we held out since that would be way closer to home for us.

Kimberly

Hello Warriors,

The semester is winding down and hopefully the pace of my life will settle down some too. I wanted to audition for the spin workout and I am upset that Cathe limited it to only those on the road trip. I think that it should be open to any Cathlete that wants to audition and can show up. Afterall, are only those on the road trip going to buy the workout?

Cathy, it sounds like you have had an interesting week! I don't think that is is karma but rather things are just like that sometimes. Glad you are enjoying your new weight plates!

I am still plowing away with 'Asylum' and loving it.

Wow! This afternoon I typed all this and then it wasn't going, so I copied it and we had to leave. Just came back hours later and was able to paste it in. I'll just add a bit. ;)

Kimberly glad you stopped by and come back real soon and report a workout! ;)

Regina glad you are enjoying Asylum. Sorry to hear about your frustrations over the cycle workout. :(

Where is everyone else?

So, to recount my workouts for the week. Monday afternoon Derek and I walked around town while Nick had band.

Tuesday, I woke up with a bit of a tummy ache and didn't work out and never found time or desire to do one.

This morning I did Squat Rack legs and it was very nice to have those extra weight plates. :D Then this afternoon Derek and I walked around town and went farther than last time. He can actually keep up a decent pace and I was sweating. Of course, part of that is that it's in the 70's and I had a black shirt on. :p

Note: it's now almost 9:30 and while I got away with no DOMS from squat rack legs in weeks two and three that will NOT be happening in week four as they've already arrived!

DRUM ROLL - Tah-Dah

STS completed. Cathy I know I'm a day ahead of you, but that's it done now. Yay.

I blended with it Meso1 and couldn't abide the recovery. After Meso2 it was nice to have a week off and Meso3 I've really struggled to fit it in to my days. I think it's because I dropped off so much cardio time in weeks 1-4 that I've tried to keep up with that and have sometimes used a whole step w/o as a warm up and then changed discs and started on the STS that's sent my w/o time between 1.5-2hrs some days.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. I'm grateful to Mary (Yay Mary) for helping me with acquiring it and I shall be happy to go again in Sept. In fact I'm even considering may doing M1+M2 over the summer before starting again in Sept. Haven't fully decided yet.

Funny that I thought I'd struggle with the plyo legs, which I ended up loving, but didn't have DOMS once in all 4 weeks though I had them persistently throughout M1+M2???????????

I have some good definition and strength gains, but I know that could be improved with more equip, which I'm currently looking into. Cathy how did your results compare to your previous round??

Regina Bummed for you about auditioning for the spin w/o. It maybe that not everyone on the road trips would necessarily want to audition for the w/os. I can see how that holding auditions when the crew are already all assembled would be convenient for Cathe.com though.

Kimberly There have been a few posts on OD about lack of motivation, so that might be worth a peep if you need a shove to get you leaping about the basement. I've hardly checked on there at all since the turn of the year - but it's always interesting.

Cathy there was a vegan shout out on there over the w/e - did you get to see that. I was researching coconut oil. If you have any wisdom on that to impart I'd be mighty glad to be 'enabled'.

OK peeps, time's a'ticking and I'm a busy person - so off I go. Note to self: Google fruistista (W.T.F.???????)

Hello All,

After having done STS three times, I though about doing it again this spring but can not get into it.

Kim- My DH has insisted that I not bring any more equipment home. He says I have enough to stock a full service gym plus more!

Yesterdy was the first time I have done any Cathe workouts in a while. I did Core cardio Circuit.

KIM- My gripe about the spin auditions is this- set a date and time and anyone who wants to audition could show up or sign up for a time slot to audition ahead of time. That way the equipment is all set up. They could have done this during the road trip and allow anyone who wants to show up for the audition (those on the road trip and those who did not attend the road trip) to do so. This seems rather simple and straight forward to me.

I have got to get back to work- Have a great day!
