Winter dryness

Hey all. So what do you all use that you really like for moisturizing your skin? For the past couple nights I have about scratched my skin raw on my feet and legs. Yay winter! Thanks in advance everyone :)

Olive Oil :D
Just plain old olive oil. One type may be better than others, but I'm not sure what it is if that's so. I just take some and slather it on after my shower while I'm still damp. Adding more pure vitamin E oil makes it better, but that's pretty expensive. I do use the vitamin E on my toes and the rough parts of my feet. For regular lotion, I like Aveeno Daily Moisturizing better than most.

Now i just need to find something that works for my face :( :(

After every shower, while skin is still warm and SLIGHTLY damp, I massage on Neutrogena Body Lotion with Light Sesame Oil...from the neck down. I do not itch anymore. My DH is ALWAYS commenting on how good my skin feels. Even my son is constantly rubbing my arm, leg or belly (that may be "mama's boy syndrome"). It smells AWESOME and gives the skin a nice glow. Try it!!

If you have a few specific patches that are getting to you, put some hydrocortisone cream on it.

I use oils after my shower. My skin is so dry that lotions didn't help me that much. After the lotion soaked in I would get all flaky and itchy again. Oils have really helped my dry skin. I make my own mixes and usually include some jojoba, rose hip, apricot, grapeseed, and emu oils. It's worked wonders.

Hi Debbie,

I am a huge fan of anything w/ shea butter in it. Bath & Body Works has some great products. I also really like baby oil. It's light and gentle on the skin. Exfoliating the skin as well as getting pedicures really help my legs & feet during this time of year.

I am a huge advocate of Vitamin E oil. It is wonderful! I cover myself with it head to toe after I shower and before I go to bed and I feel like silk, DH just can't stop touching my skin. It is also great for preventing stretch marks - I don't have one on my stomach! :7 I have also heard that olive oil works wonders, too.

Hey Debbie! i just recently had a bad bout with an eczema flare up. i never had hat before, but my skin got super dry and itchy. i got some acenno lotion and started putting it on after my shower. it helped alot. my skin really did stay soft and moisturized all day. i wouldlove to use the neurogena oil b/c it smells great, but it clogs my pours. i haven't found a face moisturizer that works with out breakouts eitherx( good luck!

I don't think it matters so much which moisturizer I use, as long as I use tons of it and use it often! Especially on the heels of my feet and my hands.

I second the Vitamin E oil. I've been using it on my hands and they've never looked better. Also, it has no scent, so if you are allergic to some scents as I am, this stuff is great!

Isn't vitamin E oil rather sticky? The kind I have is.

I've also seen avocado oil, which would be very nice to use. Aloe very can also help the skin without clogging pores.

If you don't already use a humidifier, it's a good idea to use one in the winter, especially in the bedroom.

The oil is sticky when you first put it on but within a minute it's absorbed...same as hand lotion, IMHO. I use Pure E oil 70,000IU.

I mix some Johnson's baby oil gel (it has to be the gel kind so it won't be as sticky) with my lotion, about a third baby oil to two-thirds lotion. I get the generic version of Lubriderm from Wal-mart or Target. They work just as well.

I'll try to mix some of that Vitamin E, too and see how that works.

Right now I am using Queen Helene shea butter creme (which I got at Eckerd for like $3.99). It is very thick and works fantastically well for me (I am very, very dry!). I also put it on while still damp from the shower; the water is what locks in the moisture.

Aveda makes a great product called Soothing Body Polish, and then after your shower follow with the Beautiying Oil. You'll have flake free skin in no time! And it smells fantastic!

Hey ladies, thanks for all the great ideas. I do use a humidifier so that should help some. I think I'll take all the products you recommended, stir it up in a big pot, and get some super tricked out GOO :7 ;)
