WHY???

The military is not just patroling and fighting insurgents, they are helping build the infrastructure such as schools these children go to. The extreme cultural attitudes are in the minority, and just make the most noise. The everyday people are amazingly just like you and me. Try to get a hold of the video, Voices of Iraq.

Wow, Thanks for all the kind posts, I really wasn’t sure what reaction I would be getting. Here we get mainly anti-war news about us being in Iraq, no FOX channel. LOL
I’m here with over 500 other Law Enforcement Officers from around the United States. (Not many know we are over here.) Our mission is to advise the Iraqi Police so they can stand on their own. In doing this, it will free our troops, and allow them to go home to their families. Unfortunately the bad guys are trying to stop us, but they’re dealing with U.S. Cops, and we don’t give up too easily. LOL

Dorothy: I saw the video you’re talking about “Faces of Iraq” it’s very good!

Dallas: The Brits in Al Basrah did have some problems with the Iraqi Police but, driving their tank through the Police station changed the Iraqi Police attitude tho. LOL After that the Iraqi Police there were quick to let the Brits know where they were holding their men.

Michele: I feel very lucky to have the support of my beautiful Diane Sue. Thanks

CandiK: Those lives that were lost here were not lost in vain! Freedom from oppression was a worthy cause in 1776, and in my opinion still a just cause.

Cool! I made my 100th post....... LOL:)

Bill, you are such an amazing and brave human being. Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication that is making this world a better place!

I pray for you and all the others in Iraq to stay safe and to complete your mission.

Bill, a fellow from our small town wrote monthly letters to the High School explaining what was going on, and what they were doing. He is in the military. He spoke about being scared, but also spoke about the good they are doing in this country for the many, many people that were oppressed. He also sent some amazing sand storm pictures, Wow.

Voices of IRaq point out how very bad Husseins regime was and what an evil person he is.

My DD studied the Holocast in 5th grade. Questions she had was, Why did no one stop Hitler before he killed so many Jews. How did the German every day people allow this to happen. Why did the world allow it to happen.

Things of similar nature were happening in Iraq. There is also a Documentary on Discovery that airs from time to time about Suddam and his sons, that bears watching.

In Voices of Irag, people shared frustration about having an occupied country, but they also said it was better than under Hussein, they just want to move forward and have it to themselves. They cannot do it right now by themselves, they are not strong enough. But they will, these are beautiful, educated people that have been suppressed too long.

Dorothy,

I don't waste my time watching propaganda. It's always one sided. IMHO, time will tell if we're doing the right thing or not.

And don't think I don't support the troops. I work for a company that supplies some of the most successful precision guided weaponry that they are using in Iraq. So you see, even though they have not found the WMD in Iraq, the United States is making plenty of it's own to use over there. Some of which is killing innocents you see in that picture.

And by the way, this is not the Holocost. Iraq wasn't invading other countries trying to be a world power. That comparison doesn't work for me at all.

War is ugly and sometimes there are no winners.

Bill,
I appreciate what you're doing over there. I'm very proud of our troops and civilians from USA going over there to help.

CandiK,
The men and women chose to join the military. What did you expect the military to do? Sit on their butts counting how many fingers and toes they have? There's a point of having militaries. Also, what makes me laugh is you seem to think we're killing the innocents purposely. That is not the case. Did it ever occur to you that some of the children as young as 6 yrs old have killed our soldiers? I bet you don't care about that since they're "freedom fighters". And yes, a lot of things are one sided and it's usually the liberal one. Anyway, hope you have a good week.

Candi, did you even look at the website? This film was not made with a slant for either side, but to show what the people of Iraq are like. In fact some people did say, Americans go home. It was a very honest look at the Iraqi people, and it made me fall in love with their spirit inspite of the adversity they have faced and are now facing.

As far as the Holocaust comparisons, what do you think Hussein was doing in Kuwait, what do you think he would have done if he got away with that. And ask the millions of civilians he killed, and the many more that are left maimed because of the chemical and biological weapons he unleashed on his own, yes millions, look it up.

War is ugly, no one wants war. But there are evil people in this world, and I guess everyone can look the other way, but eventually it will end up in our own back yard. Should we have gone in there initially, intel said yes, we now know that is bad intel. Once in, if we pull out now, then the insurgents will take over, and it will be bad again. If we help rebuild and retrain, the country has a chance.

Very well said Bill, with a caring and beautiful wife Diane Sue, ZT27, and Dorothy...Thanks...:)...Carole

Dorothy,

When your daughter asked why no one stopped the Holocost, did you encourage her to join the armed forces when she is of age so that she could have a front row opportunity to fight in the Iraq war? If you did, I applaud your conviction.

I appreciate your point of view and I don't expect you to understand mine. What I don't understand is the quest of people like yourself who try to change my viewpoint.

I have a right to my opinion as you do yours.

I agree to disagree and I can do it without disrespect.

ZT27,
I don't think we hurt the innocents on purpose. Because of where I work I have seen test films and have seen first hand the damage they can cause, unintentionally. So, we protect innocent people and then just because of the mere nature of our weapons, we kill innocent people. I guess that makes us even. So what have we gained? I've done the math.

Bill -

I'm sorry to see that your post has dissolved into a political argument, but then I knew it would as soon as I saw it.

Just Do It! :)

I do not disrespect your opinion, but you called the film propaganda, and it is not made with a slant. So that made me think you did not even look at it. A friend of mine watched it who shares your opinions and even more so. We debate, but not unkindly. He gets me to look things up, review things, I the same.

If my daughter was moved to join, as so many of our young people are, then who am I to stop her, and yes it would be very frightening for me. But the military over there believe in what they are doing. They believe they are doing a service in building hospitals and schools, and getting a country back on their feet. All the media portrays is the bad, have we seen what Bill is doing on the media? Have we seen the schools being built, young girls finally getting to attend?

One thing the young man from our town wrote about is the portrayal. He said the insurgence get worse when they get backed into a corner. They are losing, so they get more agressive. He said two steps forward, one step back. Unfortunately, the media portrays only the step back.

Is the 16,000 civilians Suddam routinely tortured and put to death better than now. Well some Iraqis would probably say so, but they were probably in Suddam's pay.

Nope, I won't change your mind, but I do listen to other people and do search for answers. War is bad, no doubt about it, and the best thing is not to have it. But to pick up and leave now in the middle of rebuilding would worse.

It is too bad we ever had the ability to make such weapons. It is too bad there are people in this world who hate us so much they attack. And yes, it is impossible to get the innocents out the way, Saddam was very good at killing them.

I didn't view this as a political argument. I'm not afraid of conflict and IMHO what was written here is healthy discussion. As a matter of fact, Bill responded to me earlier without any animosity in his tone.

What is going on in Iraq is controversial and opposing viewpoints SHOULD be expected.

Let me just add one more thing, Bill.

I grew up in Hungary, and that was a rather communist country at that time...:) We would never ever imagined to criticize the leaders of the county -- even we all disagreed with them and hated them -- out loud. Those who did ended up in prison, torture chambers or just simply dissappeard altogether with or without their families. Or got fired, or were on the goverment "sh*t list. That meant for example not being able to get a passport at all.
For most Americans these thing are simply unthinkable. Those who are screaming bloody Bush left and right has not got the lightest idea how lucky they are that they can actually do that without deadly punishments.

When that Saddam statue was demolished it reminded me so much of the removal of the hatred Lenin statue that was in Budapest, and brought tears into my eyes.

So, war is nasty, no matter what. But when Iraq finally will achieve democracy and freedom, those who gave their lifes for the cause indeed died for something very noble. God bless you Bill, and you just take care of yourself. Mari

Bill,
Thanks so much to you and to everyone who is protecting us. I just can't imagine how scary it would be if we didn't have brave people like you. Thanks for posting.

Joanne

Bill that post was awesome! Thank you for posting it. It is so refreshing to see the good that's coming out of the people being over there to help. Those kids are adorable! Give them huge hugs and keep up the great work!
Oh, and thank you for everything that you've done!

Again, thank you all for the support, I’ve been sharing some of the responses with the other guys here.

I respect difference of opinions, we all form our opinions based on what we experience, and what we are told. (Media-Friends-Family-etc..) Being here in Iraq I’m able to talk to the people, many I consider friends. They have told me of the atrocities that they themselves endued. I personally saw mass graves, and how it affected the people including myself in viewing it. Saddam is a evil man, and if not stopped I believe he would have killed thousands more.
Because of my experiences and what I’ve been told, read and seen, I believe “Thank God we are here to help these people.”

If the good people of the United States refuse to stand against the tyrants of the world, who will. I know one of the biggest fears the young soldiers have here is being treated like their fathers were upon returning to the United States from Viet Nam. They are worried that the media is swaying public opinion into believing the people here, and their freedom is not worth fighting for.

We do not expect a big cultural change to occurring here in Iraq, they have been doing that themself slowly for many years now. We are seeing a change in pride in their country, pride in getting to vote, pride in their new found freedom. Something must be going right.

Debbie: The children in the picture live just outside of the compound I stay in. There is a little store right there (about the size of a closet). I buy “Rini” (an Orange drink here) there, and I always buy some candy for the children too. They have my name down, and I’m working on theirs. They are real cute!
I’ve been here since May 2005 and mission end for me is May 2006, if I don’t extend.
