Why the "split" body w/training?

Is there a reason most of you "split" your weight training as in "upper body" one day "lower body" the next?

Why cant we, or shouldnt, weight train the "whole body" in one complete session?

Do any of you w/train the whole body one day, cardio the next, weight train the whole body the next, so and so on?

Interested in "anything" time saving yet still working out 5/7 days

RE: Why the

I do splits to train each body part longer. Spend more total time on each muscle. It just works better for me. Sometimes I do the total body, like ME or PH, other times I really hammer my legs or my upper body, or even do something like Slow and Heavy. It is just more effective for strength building for me.

RE: Why the

i do whatever i have time for. normally i only have time for either pub or plb before work.... but if i want to do whole body.. i'll do power hour or me or something like that.. i have done pub and plb on the same day (non work day) and i feel fine after wards.. heck.. i even did it once after riding my bike for 30 miles!

it all depends on what YOU want to do and what yOU have time for!

RE: Why the

I split mine because I can put a full out effort into a bodypart or two. If I try to train with full effort on too many bodyparts, some are not going to be worked as hard because of fatigue. Even the total upper body tapes can be this way, although you are not working each part as long some exercises work other areas as well and makes them harder to go as heavy for as long. If that makes since. Now this week I only can workout 5 days, so I did PS Chest shoulders & tri's Mon.,PS legs & abs Tues, then SS upper blast wed., my own lower workout today, & tomorrow I plan on doing PS Back & Biceps. This way I pretty affectively worked everything twice. My daughter is getting married Sat. & I have company coming.

RE: Why the

Yes, the idea is simply to spend more time on particular body parts. I've often read that it is recommended to start out with whole body workouts, then later do splits. Although, I don't think it matters much as long as you start!
I generally mix it up. Upper/lower splits once a week each & a whole body once a week. Or, 3 part split only. Or, whole body three to four times a week. Or, 1 body part a day, which is my fave.
I like variety!:p
Anyway, my opinion is, whatever schedule you will do is the best one for you.
