why are my hands hurting with weights

So i have noticed that lifting 10bls is bothering my hands. Like to day i was doing pub and had 10 lb db for fly and presses and my hands were hurting! Any suggestions? Do i just need to wear gloves? anyone else have this issue?

My hands used to ALWAYS hurt me when doing flies and chest presses. I think I was gripping the weights so hard because I was so afraid of dropping them in that vulnerable position... When I loosened my grip a bit, I noticed that they didn't hurt anymore...

I started having trouble with my left thumb so I went to Golds and bought some lifting gloves that have gel pads. It makes the lifting much more comfortable. Good luck with it.

Me, too. Easing up on your grip will help. Also gloves will help, too. You won't feel like you need to hang on so tight. As you begin to increase weight, you may feel it again, but you'll adjust.

Also, sometimes taking your thumb out of the grip helps. Wrap your thumb up and around with your other fingers, instead of under. Hard to describe. I use that grip for heavy deadlifts, it just feels better. Or wrap your fingers around like normal, and put your thumb parallel to the grip on the DB so it rests against or over the end of the DB - works better on smaller DBs.
