Who works in PR?

I know there are a couple here but I can't remember who. One of my biggest regrets is the field I chose for my career. It's extremely difficult to change jobs when you have to relocate every time you do. I've always wished I'd gone into PR instead--some aspects of it are similar to what I do now, & I think I'd really enjoy it.

So now I'm 40 & I'm re-examining my life, I'm seriously considering going back to school. What kind of degree for a job in PR? Marketing? Business? Hopefully something that doesn't involve much math LOL. Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm not in PR, but I've worked in communications departments for quite some time. There's always some aspect of PR, or a PR specialist around. I'd say marketing would be good, but I think there are programs with a PR emphasis, too. Or any type of media/communications program - lots of times that's synonomous.

Good luck, Laura. I don't envy you one little bit. I'm kind of in the same boat you are about examining my life. But the fields that interest me would require gobs of math and science, and that just ain't gonna happen!

Laura, why don't you just contact the local college in your area. See what is required, then you can really see what your up against.

I hear you on the Math...I work with horses as a hobby and I've always fiddled with the idea of being a Vet...but the biology part of it..as well as all the long schooling...I feel like I'd be 50 by the time I graduated.

So, I hear ya. Call the college. You don't have to give them any personal information unless you want to...just tell them what your after. Ask for academic advising...and go from there. Tell em' you need to talk to you husband if they push...or your Dad.

A friend of mine got a degree in Public Relations, with a minor in marketing. He hates math, so I'm pretty sure the requirements must have been minimal for that. I do believe a bachelor's in business goes through two semesters of calculus- but come on, math is the fun part! :p
