Whether I should take a job or not

I had a 2nd interview with a job I was interested in. I told them on both interviews that I had a trip planned from Oct 15-20th. They gave me an offer yesterday...I reminded the interviewer of the trip and then today they told me they had to rethink the offer because the owners were put off that I have a trip planned. It's a sales position...my training would be over by that time but I will start my first full month there at the time of my trip and I have a 60 day probation period. Is this unreasonable for them to expect me to cancel a trip I previously had planned and had told them about even though they forgot that I did. What would you do??

PS, I even offered to cut the trip by 1 day if I could or work extra days to make up for it. I'm feeling put off already from working for this place.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY HAD TO RETHINK GIVING YOU THE JOB WHEN YOU HAD TOLD THEM ON BOTH INTERVIEWS ABOUT YOUR TRIP!! THAT WOULD MAKE ME THINK TWICE ABOUT WORKING FOR THEM TOO. LET US KNOW WHEN YOU HEAR BACK FROM THEM!

I wouldn't take the job. You told them ahead of time about your trip, they were forewarned. They either did not bother to take it into consideration or they think they can railroad you. Either way, is this a company you could work for? I mean, if this is their attitude towards employees now ......... There are other and better companies to work for. Usually the way it goes is: if they want you, they work around your planned vacation.

What was the reply you received from the interviewer regarding this vacation time during each of your interviews? Did he/she mention they would work around it? Or did they just not address it?

If they are just choosing to pretend they didn't know about your vacation, or if they said they would work around it and now they are not, or if indeed they are trying to railroad you, well, then I guess YOU should be the one feeling a bit put off and not the owners of the company!!

I agree with the others. I wouldn't take the job. Who wants to work for a company that is already giving you grief and you haven't even accepted the position. Sheesh!

Good Luck!! You will find another and you will know it's the right one.

I agree. I would definetely think twice about this. Go with your gutt. I find if you foolow that you rarely go wrong.

Good luck and keep us posted

I personally think it's pretty crappy that they would expect you to cancel. You planned this trip BEFORE you interviewed for this job and TOLD THEM about it!!! I wouldn't change anything...if they want to offer you the job regardless of the trip than fine, but if the offer is contigent upon you changing your plans than tell them where they can put thier job offer! JMO!:)

Thanks ladies,

I have already decided I am not changing my vacation. They are still thinking about it over the next 2 days. I'm not sure I even want it now with all this hassle. Especially considering I feel that the one woman there has a problem with me...1st I wasn't dressed conservatively enough on the 1st interview...then she was concerned that I wouldn't be happy in their one location offered because originally I was supposed to go for a closer location they have and I bet she has something to do with this vacation thing now. I've interviewed with a man who is the HR professional there and mainly spoke to him although I did interview with the others as well. I haven't even started this job and already I feel this woman has nothing but concerns about me and she will be one of my bosses. We are the same age...she's married...I'm single...and look a bit younger than her and I just can't help but think there is something going on with the female to female thing even though all the other consultants are females as well. I don't know. I'm just getting really nervous because my unemployment is up in 2-3 weeks and I need a job quick. God I hope something comes through quickly.

I would also worry about what it would be like when you are actually working there. It might be one of those places where you have to beg and plead to actually take the vacation you earn.
