WHERE do you buy your fitness shoes?

I've finally come to the realization that I need new workout shoes...mine are giving me blisters (I've had them probably over a year). I usually buy from a discount department store (here in California usually Mervyns or sometimes Macy's on sale) or order from QVC on the net. We have Lady Footlocker (and Footlocker) stores here and I'm wondering if they would be a better place (maybe the salesclerk knows how to fit my foot better???? LOL). I did a search on this board, but didn't find much information on WHERE to buy. Where do you all buy your shoes.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to buy a new pair. I normally buy mine at either Dick's Sporting Goods or sometimes Shoe Carnival. It just depends on how the shoes feel when I put it on. It normally takes me a little while to find the right shoe, but I am not the kind of person that sticks to one brand. I'll normally check anywhere from 2-4 stores before I buy anything.

Good luck in your search!!

The last two times, I went to Lady Footlocker. There was a good selection and helpful sales staff.

Thanks Connie and Kristi! That's exactly what I wanted to know. I think I'll try Lady Footlocker this time.

I use to buy my shoes at Kohs Dept. Store or Warehouse Shoes. But in the past few months no shoes felt comfortable. I am one of those that jump around in the store before I buy aerobic shoes. Finally I went to Atheletes Foot (like a Footlocker) and I got a really knowlegable sales manager. He told me that discount stores sell low end name brands that are not really good for the avid exerciser. He also said that a good shoes bends at the ball of the shoe. He had me try on shoes that were for my type of foot (wide with high arches). I tried a pair of Rykas and New Balances, but Nike mid 60 (something like that) fit sooo good. They are a mesh material and have great cushion. I think these are aerobic shoes, not crosstrainers, but I can't remember. I paid a little more $, but they are really comfortable. Good Luck, I know this is a frustrating process.:)

Thanks Carole -- I have a Big 5 just down the street from me! I'll check them out as well.

Fab40, thank you for that information, that helps me a bunch! I'm thinking I need a lot of side to side support and I also have high arches.

About a year and a half ago I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and bought some Cross-trainers, New Balance 663, and for me they have been the best shoe EVER. I have a high instep as well, so I thought I'd tell you about these. This is the first workout shoe that I have gone back and bought a second pair of when I needed new ones. Plus Dick's has SO much other great "stuff!" Hope this helps!

This makes me think. Im not sure what kind of shoes to buy? Crosstrainer, aerobic? Okay, I do cardio(walk, bike, kickbox, step)3 times a week and the rest of the week is weights with one endurance weights day. What would be the best shoe to buy?

It was once told to me (by I can't remember, but believe it was on the Firm forum), that cross-trainers have more side to side support. That's what I've had the last two times and they do seem to support side to side better for me (until they get too old like mine are now).

I usually get them at the Rack Room Shoes close to where we live. But believe it or not, the best shoes I found for my feet (high arches, wide near the toes and narrow at the heel) were at our nearby Marshall's. It's an Avia (I don't know the model as they sell their shoes without the boxes) and cost me only $24.99. I loved them so much, especially for kickboxing, that I decided to buy another pair. And guess what? When I went back, they were clearing out the leftovers for $18. I grabbed one right away. Now that I think about it, I should probably get yet another pair. Because I wear out my shoes so fast. And these make my feet the happiest they've ever been in my whole workout history.:7
