Where do I begin? Need some advice.

A few years ago I worked out to Cathe videos. I'm out of shape now and would like to begin working out with Cathe again; but which workout should I do? Her workouts can be tough! Is there a "beginner" workout? I don't want to be so sore that I can't move for a few days.

Hi! I just started back about a week ago. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a way around being sore at first with any kind of exercise when it's been a while. I'm sure someone will have suggestions on what is best, but here's what I have done. I got her Cardio Hits DVD and put my Step on 4 inches. It is still wearing me out, but hey, you gotta start somewhere. In just a week, I have gotten to the point where I can do the advanced version. My heart rate is a little too high when I'm done, so I'll continue to use the 4 inch step until it gets down some, then advance to the next level. I've been doing some of her weights dvd's, too. Anyway, hth and good luck getting started again. You can do it! :)

Cathe has come out with a beginner/intermediate workout dvd's. Maybe give these a try. You can always modify your moves for her step tapes to the floor until you are ready to go with a step. Also walking is a really good low-impact workout.

Cathe does have a couple beginner/intermediate workouts. Are you really REALLY out of shape? Because when I started back in after being off for a few years, I just started up with the Cross Train Express series. I did it for 8 weeks, then moved on to her rotations. I felt that it worked fine. There's still one workout I haven't made it through entirely without pausing the DVD player (can you say "Kick, Punch, Crunch"?, but it's amazing how fast you get back up to the level where you can do these.

Hi!

I can't say as I was a total beginner ... but I was in awesome shape about 3-4 months ago ... and then some changes in my life took me away from my regular routine. Since then I've been running more than anything & the weights had fallen to the wayside.

Like you I'm getting back into it and have found that the best way is to ease on in. Do you have any Firm workouts? They tend to be easier than Cathe. If not, take a workout like ME and go WAY light on it, focusing totally on your form. Do not skip your next day's workout - consistency is your key. Rather grab a part workout (like a PS or S&H that just focuses on 2-3 muscle groups) &, again, do it WAY lighter than you normally would, focusing on your form. (btw, I like to preface a purely strength training workout w/ some cardio - the floorwork from MIC is good or a short jog). Keep this up, working out 4-6 times per week for 2 weeks at far lighter than you normally would (you might even go w/ a totally unweighted barbell at first!) and then gradually upping your weights. Keep a chart of your workouts & weight used.

GOOD LUCK!:)

Well, I wouldn't say I'm REALLY, really out of shape. I am able to do my Firm video. I really appreciate everyone's tips and encouragement. I'll just jump right in with light weights.

Thanks everyone!

I'd start with her Timesaver dvd, or the Push Pull/Supersets dvd, or the Basic Step/Body Fusion workout.

Congrats!
