When was the last time you did Step Jam?

Some of you might remember I'm putting together my own little "intensity chart" of all the cardio workouts I have. I have 37 stinking DVDs! Well, I'm down to my last 5 (should be done by next week & will definitely share).

I did Step Jam this morning for the first time in YEARS. It kicked my booty! The choreography was almost laughably easy but the intensity level was much higher than I remembered. And Cathe was so cute way back when!

The only workout I have that I don't think I'll be adding to the list is How to Get in Shape for Your Wedding. Is it even sold anymore? If I remember correctly it was short & low intensity so I figured I wouldn't bother with it.

Is that the one with the yellow background and she's wearing a red leotard? I think it has been about 2 years since I've done it. Any of those will still get your heartrate up, for sure! I think there's someone in her cast that irritates me on that one, so I stopped doing it. :)

I think I probably did it last year sometime. I really like the length and intensity of the workouts on the "Classics" DVD, and the easier choreo is nice for a no-brainer workout. I don't have to focus on where my feet are and what I'm doing after the current move, and can go all out.

Laura,

I do the older steps by Cathe all the time. I love How to Get in Shape for Your Wedding (I think is between beginners to low intermediate) I use this one when I'm out of sorts. An updated version of this video is Power Max. Power Max is longer is all, and so more intense. Which I like even more. I think this one is intermediate. The other old tapes I do every now and then, are Mega Step Blast, Step Heat, Step Jam, and Step Max. I consider these intermediate as well. I don't do Step Fit cause someone on this forum says Cathe only does one side in a portion of the tape. Perhaps when you do this one, will you let me know if this is true or not?

When I need something harder I do Rhythmic Step then when I want to do steps that really get ya going, I do the others.

You know it's funny, I do all those (PM, SB, SH but not SM--don't think I have it) a lot, probably every month or so, but I avoid Step Jam b/c I'm pretty sure it's the oldest & I really can't stand that banjo music in the beginning. :p Plus it's a little TOO basic for me & therefore is lacking a bit w/the fun factor.

In the second section of Step Heat, for some reason at the end she only runs through the combo 3 times instead of 4. So you do the "finished product" twice on the right & once on the left. I guess it was just an oversight. I love SH when I'm short on time--it's maybe 5-8 minutes shorter than her normal lenght workouts. Plus it's really fun--the second section is one of my favorites, I love the choreography!

ETA: it's been a REALLY long time, but I don't remember the wedding video being similar to PM. I remember it being really basic & low intensity, but what I remember most about it is it's one of the rare times (possibly the only time?) Cathe has a combo w/the step facing sideways instead of forward. In the early days of step a lot of instructors did that (Gin Miller comes to mind), but you almost never see it anymore.

I haven't done the work out 'as is' in years but every once in a while I'll warm up with the SJ&P step section and add on StepJam combos 2 & 3. I'm with you on the banjo music, it drives me to distraction. SJ is a good workout and never fails to make me chuckle and roll my eyes a bit when Cathe is compelled, more than once, to say "Groovy" :)

Kinda like all the times she says "looks hot" in Powermax. Which always reminds me of Janet Jones (aka Gretzky) in that Firm workout where she keeps saying, in that breathy porn star voice, "it's tough".:p Which I suppose is better than saying "it's hard" in a breathy porn star voice.

Okay, I'll shut up now:+

Shelley, I had no idea...

that Janet Jones had ever appeared in a Firm workout! Great addition to my wealth of useless trivia :D. I've never thought of her as fit, gaunt is more the word that comes to mind.....but that's just me :+

RE: Shelley, I had no idea...

She was a dancer in a previous life (she was in Stayin' Alive, the sequel to Saturday Night Fever, with John Travolta), so she was pretty fit.

Better "groovy," I say, than "looks hot" (which is one reason why I don't do these older workouts very often).

Oh the memories...SJ was my first Cathe. I traded it years ago, now I wish I still had it! It really is a good one to start with.

Awww, I love those silly encouraging phrases of Cathe's! It's one of the things that makes her workouts so much fun & inspirational. And obviously many of them are things she says during her regular classes b/c they're repeated in later workouts. It's one of the things that really stood out for me this morning--it kind of makes me feel like we're hanging out together & she's my buddy. :p

Step Jam and Step Heat are my all time, bar none favorites. When I'm feeling incredibly lazy (like the last four months) I always rely on those to bring me back in to the fold. They are timeless.

The Wedding workout was my first attempt at a Cathe step workout. I remember tripping over myself trying to do it. Before her, my most complex aerobics workout was Fat Burning for Dummies! I also remember feeling completely out of shape and nearly passing out by the time I was finished! I thought "Man, this chick is an animal!" If you told me 5 years ago that I would find IMAX easy I'd say you were out of your mind. It's amazing how far I've come!
