Whats up with this?

Actually, I am fairly certain it is illegal to drive in NJ while talking on one's cell phone.

I guess I am in the minority because cell phone usage really only bothers me when the person is driving and not paying attention. Of course, I drive so much that I see things which make cell phone usage seem almost quaint. What really scares me? People doing 80 mph on a four-lane highway with the newspaper spread over the steering wheel!

You're right Marie, it is illegal here to drive & talk on the cell--unless you use an earpiece/headpone, which makes no sense to me at all, I find myself even more distracted trying to keep the stinking thing in my ear--but of course, just as it's against the rules to use a cell phone in my gym, everyone ignores it. And to the best of my knowledge the law is not enforced.
 
We aren't aloud to talk and drive either but that doesn't stop people.When they see a cop comming the just drop the phone.It makes sense though b/c you must be some what distracting while chatting.

I am sorry, but talking on the phone while driving is my BIGGEST pet peeve! The only time that I have been in a wreck is because the person who hit me was on the &^*(^& phone. Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!! I have my kids in the car with me most of the time, so it reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllyyyyyyyy makes me mad to see people changing lanes without looking while they are on the (*^*&(*& phone neglecting to use their signal. For the life of me, I don't know why it isn't against the law here. It should be. }( }( }(

There was a study done showing that 18-25 years olds talking on a cell phone while driving have the same reaction time as 65-75 years olds driving while not talking on the cell phone.
 
I agree that it should be illegal. I have had two close calls recently on the highway. Both times the other driver was talking on the phone not paying attention. Honestly, I think talking on the phone while driving is every bit as dangerous as drunk driving.
