Hi,

I'm a 40 year old mother of five boy's who has been trying to get pregnant for the past year. I'm lost as to what the next step should be. Should I make an appointment with my OBG and request test etc...? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as my bioligical clock is ticking. Thank you in advance!

Hi Lourdes,
I am 41 and have been ttc for over a year. I have had 2 m/c within the year. From what all I read and from what my dr has told me after age 35 its very hard to get preg for most women. Our eggs are as old as we are and some of them arent viable anymore. If you don't coneive within 6 monhts most drs will do something..whether it be Clomid etc. Getting preg with my dd was so easy and I had the best pregnancy...so this has been hard to deal with. Im still trying though!
Maybe you should go consult with your obgyn. You must just need a little help. Good Luck!

I'm just 35 & have been TTC for about 2.5 years---with one recent m/c. It is much different than when I was 30 & "fertile".

Your ob/gyn usucally won't consider Clomid unless you've tried for 1 year without success---or 6 months of "educated" TTC (temping, ovulation kits, etcetera).

I'd encourage you to speak to your dr about ways to increase your conception chances.

You're not alone, feel free to check in with TTC/preg posts. :)

PS----HI SUSAN!!! Miss you!!

Different as you get older...

I think that the length of time a doctor will let you try w/out success gets shorter as you get older. By age 40, you should probably get help right away because time is not on your side (not that it ever was).

After 35 doesn't mean you're doomed (had my DS at 36 and my DD at nearly 39), but it can be much harder for some women.

See your doctor as soon as possible and let him or her know that you haven't conceived in a year of trying. At this point, I'd think you're a candidate for help!

Good luck to you!
