Whats the advantage of 40/30/30

Hi guys,

Every morning I have my omelette consisting of 1whole egg and 3 whites w/ a slice of 25cal. smartbeat fat free cheese. I sprinkle some Mrs Dash and voila a healthy breakfast. I noticed in my mag that most lifters make sure carbs are in there too. I just started to add 1/2 cup of Quaker oats. I hear alot about eating 40/30/30. Why was my original breakfast not the best choice. why is it important to get a mix of protein, fats & carbs?
