what was your first job??

I also starting babysitting when I was 12 and I'll never forget the little girl. Her name was Mary Alice and she was the meanest 5 year old ever. She used to bite me and claw at me and her high pitched screaming...it was horrible. She did not like to be told what to do, especially when it came to putting on her pajamas.

My first "real" job was at McDonalds and my luck was not much better there. Our head manager had a very hateful personality. I always loved it when I was scheduled at night because she worked day shifts ;-)

Aside from occasionally helping my parents in their painting and wallpapering business (which I didn't do often, or particularly well because I didn't want to!), my first job was as a waitress at an Eagle's club in my hometown. I started helping serve lunch, then working as a bar waitress and working bingo nights.

I had just turned vegetarian, and serving liver and onions in the lunchroom was rather disgusting.

And after working nights in the bar or bingo room, my hair and clothes would reek of smoke, and I'd hang my clothes up and spray them with Lysol (and sometimes my hair: it was too late to wash it).

I worked the summer after HS, then returned during school breaks and the following summer to work.

My first job was also at a movie theatre. I worked behind the concession stand. We had to count the candy, and the soda and popcorn cups before and after each shift to tally sales. I wonder if that has changed. The movie that was playing was Bachelor Party with Tom Hanks. What a blast from the past.

My VERY first job, while I was in highschool when I had just gotten my working papers(mid 80's) was a p/t gig after school for about 1.5 hours every day at an Insurance Office. I would do a little data entry and some filing. I think I made $5.00/hour or something like that.

I worked at a Hallmark store in my town after school in high school. I started right before christmas one year, but I worked there for about 4 more years. I loved that job!!

My first job was working in a tire factory. My job was to file things. I left everyday in dirt. Not one of my favorite jobs.

My first job was at a tuxedo rental store in the mall when I was 15. It was really a good job, I think I started at $6.00 an hour plus we got a quarter for every accessory upsale we did (vests, special cuff links, etc.) and $10 for every wedding party we booked. I worked there for three years. Since I was a Freshman it was cool to fit all the Junior and Senior guys from school for prom (a quick way to break the ice with some of the hunky upper-classmen!). I think the funniest thing was what we found in the pockets when the tuxedos were returned. The day after prom we'd have a basket FULL of unused condoms! I guess a lot of guys went home disappointed!

Hi,

My first job was babysitting, but my first actual "JOB" with a paycheck was a clerk position at Hot Sam's pretzel place in the local mall. I worked there for a year or so and then the hours dwindled. What's weird is that Mall used to be super busy and filled with stores. Now its very bleak and there's only a few stores in it. The Hot Sam's closed and now there's a military recruiters office there! Funny how stuff evolves, isn't it?:7

My first job was as nutrition assistant for the elderly when I was 13 back in 1986. Wow, it seems like such a long time ago when I think about it.

Gosh, I went through a wide range of jobs since then {pondering where the time has gone and glad to be done with the teens and twenties}...

Carrie:)

PS. It was great, I was their so-called adopted grand-child that they spoiled every chance they got, with treats they would bring or stories I loved to hear. Sometimes, they would come to the nutrition center early just to chat while I worked to prepare their meals. It was really nice. I didn't really have a secure family back then so my heart remembers them fondly.

I did something that sounds very similar, working as a dietary aide in a nursing home (and I never minded serving anyone liver and onions if it made them happy). I learned quite a bit in job skills but I learned far more about compassion and how good it felt to help people.

It was in 1995 and I was 12 years old. I got a job as a dance instructor in a private preschool and worked there for 6 years. It was a small preschool and we grew together. By the time i left, I was the manager of the physical education departament and the school had developed to 8th grade. I loved that job and I'll never forget all my students and the staff.

I worked in a clothing store that sold ONLY pants/slacks. It was mainly jean style pants. It was called the Pantree! We had every color of brushed cotton jeans and I owned a pair of each color...pink/purple/lt. blue/dark blue/green, you name it! Can't remember if I got a discount on my own pants but that was part of the deal...had to wear THEIR pants. I actually loved the job and helping people pick out their colors and sizes!

My first job was: telemarketer.

It was 3 hours every day after school (high school).

That's why I'm not a phone person! :D

When I was in high school, I had a part-time job in the kitchen at a local nursing home - washing dishes, helping with food prep, serving meals to the folks who got to eat in the dining room. The only thing that drove me nuts was wearing a hair net. :)

I think it paid $3.25 an hour.

Oh yea, my first job was at McDonalds! I was 16 and all my best friends worked there too. We had to wear dresses ( the cool thing to do was to wear a thermal shirt underneath and then leave the first 5 or 6 buttons open. Oh yea, very trendy!) and um, there were no cute little computers with pictures to add everything up. Noooo, we had to tally everything up by hand and actually count out change. This was quite the task on the Saturday morning breakfast shift afetr we were all out **ahem** having some good, wholesome fun *cough cough* the night before and came to work on no sleep. I can't even imagine how many people got the wrong change. Yup, those were the days!

Neat topic !

My first job was when I was 16 years old. I worked for BOB'S BIG BOY...every Saturday and Sunday morning they had an all-you-can-eat breakfast bar, and my job was to keep it stocked. I restocked the scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, ,iffins, biscuits, etc... Thats all I did. Needless to say that job was NOT flattering for my figure ! I had to wear a brown polyester dress with an ugly apron, stockings, and ugly shoes.

I worked at Deb's Donut Shop at thirteen and I HATED IT! I had to be to work at 2 am and all of my friends gave me serious teasing over it...

Remember this guy?!

Everybody would say to me "time to make the donuts". I hate donuts to this day! :) And for all you kiddies out there...yes it was a life altering experience and it taught me that I had better pay attention in school or else I would be working there forever! :)
