What size and type of dumbbells do you have?

I need to get some heavier dumbbells. My set currently only goes up to 10. I want at least 12 and 15s but know I need 20s and 25s. I like the neoprene, but they are getting expensive. I would settle for the hex but I am worried about needing gloves to protect my petite flower hands.

Tell me what you have! I just need some input.

Thanks.

Do you have a Costco near you? I got a rack and 5-10-15-20-25 dumb bells all for $129.00 I already had 8's. It was a great buy the weights have the rubber around the ends. I bought it a few years ago but I saw something close to what I purchased just the other day.
I would check Sam's club and other retail places also Walmart.

I have the hex dumbbells, from 8lbs up to 35lbs. I got a 2-teir rack fro Christmas for them. I do indeed need to wear gloves when I use the heavier weights!

I got all the dumbbells at WalMart at about $.50 per pound.

Hi.

My DB's go from 2 to 15 pounds currently and are a mix of neoprene and hex except for my 2 and 3 pounders...I don't exactly know what the 2 pounders are and the 3's are "heavey hands". I need to pick up a pair of 20's real soon and they will be hex...neoprene are just too darn expensive when you get into heavier weights! I have 12 # neoprenes that I only bought because they didn't have the 12's in hex at the time.

I don't know if you have an Academy Sports and Outdoors near you, but i got my set there. It included a 15lb barbell 150 lbs of weights, 4 clamps and two smaller bars to use as dumbells. Honestly, i'm lazy and it's a pain to change plates all the time, so i have dumbells in 4, 6,8,10 and 15lbs, but i leave the adjustable ones on 12 lbs, b/c i can't find 12 lbs dumbells anywhere;-)

Good luck!

OM Gosh...I have lots. 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 15 by themselves. 2 sets of adjustable from 5lb to about 30lb. And then of course my Bowflex Select Tech Dumbells (I use these the most). They go in 2.5lb increments between 5 and 25lbs and then 5lb increments in 25 to 50lbs...you just can't have too many...:)

Edited to add you can sometimes find the adjustable ones at Target, Shopko or Walmart and priced reasonably...

I have metal hex dumbbells only, a set of 20-lb'ers, a set of 25 lb'ers, one 30 lb'er and one 35 lb'er. I like the metal hexes because you can use Plate Mate weight attachments on those; I don't think you can with neoprene-covered ones. Re getting your hands abraded: you could use weight-lifting gloves, OR (this sounds weird but effective) you can wrap a thin cloth (maybe a bandanna) around the dowel of each dumbbell to minimize the abrasion from the knurled dowel but not mess up the actual grip.

I usually get mine at my local Sports Authority (fka Sport Mart).

I have a mix. My 5's are chrome plated, my 8's are coated in some sort of plastic and the rest (10, 12, 15, 20) are hex. I wear lifting gloves.

Play it Again Sports has really good prices on hex dumbbells if you have one near you.

I have a few neoprene in the lighter ones, but for the heavier dumbbells I just get hex and wear gloves.

i have neoprene from 2-8lbs. then i have two pair of adjustables with plates. right now set at 10 and 12 and just add plates when i need more weight.i have considered investing in power blocks or the select tech to help save room, but they are just out of budget right now.

I have rubber-coated weights for 8" and 10" , heavy hands (neoprene coated handles) for 5" and 7" and metal hex for the rest. The upside of the metal ones is that Platemates stick to them very well. The downside is that they can get rust on them eventually.

I have all hex ranging from 3# to 50# (DH uses them, too) and wear gloves. Dick's Sporting Goods always has every # of dumbbells (including the 12#) and the prices are as low or lower than elsewhere.

I have all hex 3lbs thru 25lbs at the common weight increments. I prefer the hex over the neoprene because I have very small hands and the hex fits them better. I've never felt the need to wear gloves.

I have a 170 lbs dumbbell who never picks up his clothes. Oh wait, this isn't the who's annoying you check in. Sorry.

And "my dumbbell," if you are reading this, I love you.

Robin, you're too much!!!

I have chrome 3, 5, and 10. I love those chrome ones!!! Bought them because I knew I'd never get rid of them. :p This was before exercise was a part of me...

I have hex 8, 12, 15, and 20. I also have a set of adjustable bars that came with my barbell, so if I need to have one heavy one, I can just assemble it at that point.

They are all lined up neatly beneath my TV. I'm sure DH doesn't mind... }( :7

Mine then must be about 210 lbs....http://bestsmileys.com/lol/5.gif[/img]

I have sets of 2-3-5-8-10-12-15-20-25-30-35-40-45-50-60-and one 70. All are Hex, except the 2 and 3 lbers are some kind of plastic. The heavier ones are used by DH. I use up to the 40's.
