What Non Cathe DVD Is Intense?

Amy Steppe

Cathlete
Hello all!

For you who have used her DVDs, what do you think of Amy Bento?

Also, do you have recommendations on her intensity, choreography, etc?

As a point of reference, I do not care for Christi Taylor's choreography.

I am wanting to branch out my workout DVD collection and would appreicate input. I want a video that is as intense as Cathe's advanced videos.

Cheers!

Amy

Thanks for the info!

I was also thinking about Jari Love's DVDs, especially the Get Ripped 1000.

Any thoughts on Jari Love?

I have no experience with her.

Oh, Mindy Mylrea - she's VERY tough. I like her, BUT, she is pretty high impact, and her cuing is not as good as Cathe's.

Jari Love isn't bad; I actually just sold my Get Ripped DVD on Ebay. I do like Slim & Lean.

The only Amy Bento I had was Hi/Lo Extreme. Also sold this as well. It is really hard to get used to any other instructor after Cathe (for me anyway). I think the cueing in Hi/Lo wasn't all that great, plus it was a space hog.

I too like Mindy Mylrea. I do agree that sometimes her cueing is not as on-point as Cathe's, and every now and then she is uneven on the number of reps from the left side to the right, so you have to pay attention and even them up yourself.

However, Mindy is the only other DVD producer I consistently check out. I like her interval step routines, "Interval Express" (my favorite) and "Awesome Intervals". If you're not averse to high impact even in her step routines, she's a good break from Cathe on those rare occasions when you need such a break.

I bought the Hi/Lo Amy Bento. It has been sitting unused sinced I tried it for the 3rd time. I just don't like that girl. Not Amy, just her style. I think alot of ppl on the forum like her but I didn't. I do like Patrick Goudeau, Billy Blanlks, and uhhh Cathe I guess. LOL. After you find Cathe, WHERE do you go?

i have three amy bento dvds in addition to all my cathe---hi/lo extreme, kickbox extreme and advanced step challenge and i love love love them and can't stop doing them

i think they are actually more intense and i like the fact that she uses different moves than cathe, helps me not get bored

i also got kelly coffey meyers step boxing recently and i think its pretty much the single most intense workout ive ever done and its really fun, i have to stop myself from putting it in the dvd player every day

I have alot of diverse workouts in my library, I personally feel it is best to keep shocking the body as well as the mind with different types of workouts. Here are some that I like and that I think you would like..

Amy Bento HLX
Amy Bento KBX
Tracey Staehle HISM
Kelley Coffey NYC
Kelley Coffey Step Kickboxing
Kelley Coffey Ready Step Go
Mindy Mylrea Extreme Intervals
Gay Gasper Infused Step
Kimberly Miller Aerobic Euphoria
Sharon Twombley All Body Attack
Sharon Twombley All Cardio
Rob Glick Hi/lo Fusion
Rob Glick Step Styles

None of these are exceptionally complex choreography - wise, and some are circuit workouts.

Hi Jennifer,

I don't want another space hog, so thanks for the information.

Drill Max is a space hog and it is difficult to do the football runs on carpet.

I viewed the Jari Love clip on Collage's website, but I am still not sure.

If Cathe does not announce something about her new videos soon, I think I will buy Jari Loves DVD.

I seldom take a break from Cathe's workouts with exception of some Firm Classics and a few others.

I totally agree! I have it too and gave it away, I did like the modifications they show, but other than that? Snoozeville.

And while I am sure Ms. Love is a nice gal and all, I simply cannot stand "working out" with her and watching her. In the tape I owned, she looks so scrawny and strange, like she needs to eat more or something.

There are only three instructors I like. Cathe, Tony Horton and Billy Blanks (his old stuff, just because he is so enthusiastic and was my "first" workout DVD!)

There is one more I wonder if you have tried, its called the "New York Body Plan Workout" or something like that. Not super intense, but a circuit type workout that is very different. I believe the guy's name is David Kirsch. I have this one and have done it several times and liked it okay.

Based on the suggestions from other forum members I bought my first non-Cathe DVD's. I bought Amy Bento's extreme series and I really enjoy them. The all pump uses much different exercises than Cathe and I actually had DOMS for the first time in a long time. I don't think she is better than Cathe (nobody is IMO), but it is nice to spice things up a bit. I do have to agree that her cueing isn't nearly as good as Cathe's and learning a new instructors moves can be frustrating, but exciting at the same time.
I almost felt guilty for a minute when I ordered them (like I was cheating on Cathe), but it was short lived as I have ALL of Cathe's videos (except the basic/intermediate) so now I just get to wait for her 4 days split (yippee)!
