What kind of Step do you use?

I love the black step that Cathe uses in her more recent videos; but alas, I can't afford one at this time. I think I may be able to get the pink and turquoise one from Walmart for $58, but I ABHOR the colors. Why don't they make that in black? Anyway, after watching and doing a video without the step, I realize that I need a good sized step. Nothing small, that's for sure.

Does anyone have a step just sitting collecting dust? :)

What kind of step do you use?

As a beginner stepper, I did not want to spend a lot of $ on a step. I asked for and got what I was prepared to buy myself for Christmas. It is sold at walmart (turquois step with purple risers lol) with Cathe's allstep tape for $25.00. The step itself is about 2 foot long and it comes with one set of risers. It's perfect for me as a beginner. Down the line if I continue with step aerobics and become advanced I may choose to go for the health club size step (like Cathe uses) with more risers, but for now I am very happy! :)

I've only been doing Cathe workouts for a month, and I've been able to use my Firm Fanny Lifter and Firm Incline Box for all the workouts I've done so far. The incline box is just a shy shorter in length than a regular club step. The only downfall is that it is 6" and that's it---no going higher. But since I'm so new to Cathe's step workouts, I'm not coordinated enough yet to go higher anyway!

I have always used a Reebok step I got some time ago. It is club length and black with grey risers that adjust from 6 to 8 to 10. I use another wooden step my DH made when I do the step-ups, it's 14 inches....:)...Carole

The only place I know you can get the black one like Cathe's is at
www.power-systems.com and it cost $74.95. The purple and turqoise one is the same price, which tells me they might price these too high since the same one is at Walmart for $54 or so.

I have the purple and turqoise one from Walmart. If you really want one, go get it at Walmart. It comes with a Cathe tape. I use to try to do the routines with an inferior step and it was...well, inferior.

I started out with an adjustable Reebok step that I bought at Target for $39.99. I soon realized it was too small to really get into my step workout, so I sold it on eBay (for $40) and I purchased the Original Health Club step. It's wonderful. I love the stability and the extra length. I can totally get into my step workout now with lots of energy.

I also sold my Firm Fanny Lifter on eBay (it was too unstable) and bought the High Step. Actually, I just bought another one (I REALLY wanted the blue top) and I'm currently selling my High Step with gray topper on eBay.

With both the Original Step and the High Step I have enough risers to raise my Original Step up for using as a bench for some of Cathe's workouts. I like that, too. I admit when it comes to my workout equipment I've gotten really picky. But it's really important to me and it motivates me to workout on good equipment. :)

Wannabestrong, I got my step from Walmart.com for 57 dollars and some change. It is The Original Health Club Step Bench System. It is the exact same one as Cathe uses, but it does have the colors. I think Walmart.com has made an error because they do have 2 seperate steps listed that are exactly the same but at different prices. Of course I chose the cheaper price. They also have the less expensive colorful one without the nice tread. I also bought my hi-step from Walmart.com. It was a great price.

Yep, I just went on Walmart.com Type in the word "step" in the search bar. As you scroll down the first 2 steps are the same. These are the high quality steps Cathe uses. They are different prices but the same thing. As you scroll down you will see the cheaper step without the tread for one more dollar than the high quality step. I am glad I got mine at those prices. At my Walmart they only sell the cheap version, so I am glad I got that great price on Walmart.com

Lori

I'm not sure, but I think the difference between the first two on the Walmart web site is that one has the Cathe Friedrich video (the $77.77 step) and the other ($57.84) is the step without the video.

The descriptions are a little different. The $57.84 step says non-skid floor pads, while the $77.77 step says non-slip surface. I wonder if the pictures are wrong?

The step without the tread ($58.96) is much smaller than the full size steps. Why would anyone spend $58 for the treadless, smaller step? Hmmm ...

I have a shorter version of the turquois step with purple risers that you guys are talking about and it was $25.00 including Cathe's all step tape...I wonder why the other short one costs twice as much??

Thanks everyone! I forgot to mention that I do want one that I can use as a bench like Cathe does. (It will also double as a bench for my toddlers to sit on. he he):)

Marla, you are right. The 58 dollar one did not contain a video. And the pictures are not wrong. It is the same one as the 77 dollar one. It is a great step, the same one Cathe uses but purple and teal. The high step I purchased from Walmart.com does contain a VHS of Muscle Endurance.

Have a nice day,
Lori

Hi Lori,

That's such a great price for the full size Step!!! That's the cheapest I've ever seen it. I have the teal step with purple risers -- I love it. I paid $74 for mine (at The Sports Authority), but the video that was included was in horrible shape so I tossed it out. I also have the black step, but lately I've been using the teal because I crave color in the winter.:7 I love them both.

I bought the High Step, too. Fitness and working out is SO important to me. I'm like a kid in a candy store when it comes to fitness equipment. I love it all! :7

Marla, I know, isn't that so cheap?? I was searching around for the best price, and I found it. I am so glad that I have all of my equipment that I need to workout with Cathe. All I need now is a barbell, I currently use dumbells for all of her workouts.

Lori

I do have a barbell, but I was still using my dumbbells for a lot of the leg exercises until last week. My DH bought me a foam pad for my barbell, which is wonderful! It just velcros right on. Now I can use my barbell without it being cold and uncomfortable on my back. I think it was between $10-$12. My barbell is all metal so the foam pad is great -- it will really help me to increase my weight. I also got new spring clips, rather than the screw on type that came with my barbell set. It makes adding/subtracting plates MUCH faster.
