What kind of camera?

Well, we've broken yet another camera. Ours seem to have a life span of 2-3 years! They all seem to end up having weird "electrical" type problems - probably from being dropped too much! We've always had Canon, but seems like I've heard others have had similiar problems, and Nikon tends to be "sturdier"? I'd love something like an $800 Rebel, but given our track record probably not the best idea. Any input would be great!

I've got a Canon Rebel and Nikon Coolpix. I use my Coolpix to take places w/ me to get shots such as Disney World, museums, etc. It's a great camera for this b/c it's small and can fit in a pocket. I use my Rebel to take portraits of my kids and pics I might want to frame and blow up. I would suggest you assess what you would use the camera for and buy according to that. HTH :)

We have a Canon Rebel-type camera (bought in Europe so the model is a bit different) and we always used that on vacation, until I saw a friend using the Panasonic Lumix. It takes really great photos and has an amazing optical zoom for a $200 camera.

We have this one - Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7A 12.1 MP Digital Camera.

So that might be a good choice since it's less of an investment if you are going to be roughing it up a little bit. This was my first non-Canon camera and I would have never gone for it without seeing it in action, but it's really an amazing camera for the price.

Also, I carry it around in my purse 24/7 so it takes a lot of abuse, but after 2 years I haven't had a problem. I did buy a cloth carrying case for it at Best Buy for like $10 so the screen wouldn't get scratched. Good luck with your research!

You can get the neck strap, wear it all the time (even when using your hands.) its a back up so that if you drop your camera it doesn't fall very far.

Nikons are just different, I'm a canon user.
