What is the difference in step up boxes?

I noticed the step box on the Cathe.com is about a hundred dollars while the step up boxes (also by Cathe) that come with a dvd and are sold in sports shops sell for under fifty...what is the difference?

Thanks for the reply....do you happen to know if perhaps the risers on this website would fit the steps (by Cathe) sold in shops???
It seems such a huge difference in price....I am wondering if I wouldn't be better off just purchasing one of her steps at Walmart...where it sells for under fifty.

Does anyone think that it really matters which one you use overall?

The larger step is much better, particularly if you're going to be doing any of her weight training workouts. She uses the step as a weight bench, laying down on it for chest and triceps work. The smaller step will not be as useful in that space (unless you're short enough). The larger, more expensive steps are also more sturdy in construction. I had bought a smaller step (from a different manufacturer) and ultimately ended up buying the larger step. The Reebok step is a little less expensive the The Step step and is adjustable to 6, 8 and 10 inches. It's also nice because the risers snap into the bottom, which makes for easier storage and transport.

I also recommend that you buy the large club size step. It just seems sturdier to me. I had the small one for 2 years and finally got the club size step. I couldn't believe the difference. I just felt like I had so much more room--like I wasn't going to "miss" the step. If you think you may eventually graduate to the larger one, why not just buy it to begin with?
PS. I got mine on Ebay for 80.00
:D

I had a smaller step for my first six months with Cathe (not the one she sells, I think it was Reebok) and I cannot tell you what a HUGE difference workouts are with the Original Club Step. You really get a great workout and you can enjoy the choreography more as you don't have to worry about artificially shortening moves for fear of falling off. And as someone else pointed out, it's a great double for a weight bench.

One other benefit is the risers also fit the High Step, which, if you're at all like any of us, you will soon own as well. :)

Good luck with your choice!

Thanks for the replies. I will just go ahead and order the larger step...I figured there was a difference but didn't know if it was worth the huge price difference.

Also - I remember back in the eighties that the ole step (maybe it was a Jane Fonda?) use to dislodge all the time...I am sort of clumsy - so I gather this one doesn't do that. Maybe thats why I didn't stick with the step aerobics.

Kazze, I saw your other post on the Video/DVD board and I wanted to mention something. The step you are looking at on QVC.com is the "High Step," which is used in specific workouts (which are called "high step" workouts - check out High Step Training Advanced and High Step Challenge). The workout that comes with this step is, I believe, the High Step Circuit workout. This is a beginner's workout designed to introduce the user to the High Step. (At least, this was the workout that came with my High Step.)

The more expensive model you've mentioned is the Original Club Step. This is the one which has been recommended to you here because it's larger and is designed for standard step aerobics workouts (such as Step Blast or one of the IMAXes).

Cathe also recently began selling a more mid-size step in retail stores like Target. I don't know what this is called, but while it is designed for "regular" step aerobics, it's not as large as the Original Club Step.

I would recommend that you carefully review the dimensions of whatever step you decide to buy before making your purchase so that you understand exactly what you're getting.

Good luck! BTW, posts like this get more attention over on the Open Discussion board... this is Cathe's forum and I am totally hijacking. :)

the ones that are on this site for close to $100 are the bigger club size step where as store usually sell the studio step slightly less. the difference is the size usually. both are the same design and come with 2 sets of risers.

I have a step from the Firm series. It's light blue with pink risers...I' curious, will any risers fit that step?
