I have been working out with Cathe faithfully almost every day since August. I would like to lose about 25 lbs but I think that 10-15 would put me at an okay body weight. I am 5'4" and currently weigh 135. I have lost some weight and a few inches, but I am not meeting my goals. I know that my eating is the key so I have recently begun working on it because I think that is what is keeping me from my goal.

Anyway, I was just curious about others. I admit I am envious when I read other posts about how fit many of you are! You guys inspire me!!

My problem is I love to cook and eat!! I"ll cook "light" things but I also love wine and cheese, desserts, everything. I love those cookbooks by Ina Garten The Barefoot Contessa. Everything I have ever made has been delicious and I try to cut back on the butter, but man it's good!! Also with 4 kids ages 7 to 13, I find I'm constantly picking at their food. Oh well.... at least Cathe workouts help me from looking like an elephant. I'm very fit I just have this underlying body fat around the stomach area. I tell friends that I work out so I can eat. Actually I just love to work out! Cathe has the best workouts on the market!

Jen, I also love the Barefoot Contessa. Have you tried her lasagne with turkey sausage? It is to die for! I do find that she uses too much salt for my taste so I cut back. Her apple crisp is wonderful too. I have made her lemon cakes, and tirumisu. Her roast chicken is the best I ever had. I love Ina, I love her house, I love her food. Her gardens are to die for, I could go on and on!

RE: What is the biggest thing holding you back from mee...

I didn't reply because my goals are not weight-loss oriented and I couldn't reply that "I reached my goal" because, although I have reached several fitness goals, there are dozens more I'm always in the process of trying to reach.

Good question.:)

TIME! For sure. I come home late, and have to somehow squeeze working out in before dinner. I tend to be a weekend warrior.

Sometimes I wish I could trade lives with my sister-in-law. She goes to Boot Camp class every morning and plays tennis every afternoon. But then, she spends the rest of the day driving kids around, so maybe it's not so great? Guess life is one big trade-off.

Hey Melissa!
We should be "goal buddies". I started with Cathe not long after you. I am 5'4" and weigh 130, which is high weight for me. I was about 118-120 when I first got pregnant 5 years ago. I think I was around 125 when I got pregnant for baby #2 three years ago. That second baby did me in. I have not been able to get those last few pounds off. I was down to 122 at one point since then, but it was from stress, not eating and I was very unhealthy. I know for me I have just come to that age or "life point" where I am going to have to really start watching what I eat. So I guess in a nutshell that is what holds me back. Being home with two small children makes getting a complete workout done difficult, but it makes the eating even harder. They have brought home so many little treats this week!
My DH just joined a gym and is eating better, so I am hoping we are getting on the right path.
I'm right there with you! Hang in there!

I voted that I have reached my fitness goals and I have but prior to doing this I would have to say diet. Even though I always thought that I was eating clean I really wasn't. I used to eat way too many carbs. Cereal with a banana for breakfast and sometimes dinner too. I thought that I was eating healthy because the cereal was high in fiber. My portions were way to big and there was no balance. Once I begin cutting back on the cereal and pasta and eating more protein that's when the weight came off.

My diet now is based on Body for Life with one exception, I no longer have a free day every week. It just did not work for me.

So even though I have been working out for 20 years it wasn't until I really cleaned up my diet that I made the most improvements. I never believed it but now I am convinced that diet unfortunately is 90% of the equation.

The biggest thing holding me back is work stress which zaps my energy, the result being that I don't workout as often as I would like.

Hi Bobbi,

We are very similar! I was about 117 when got pregnant with my first only he was 10 years ago. My second was 7 years ago, and I was about 125. I lost the weight from both of them just fine (although gained a little back later) but I had baby #3 in January. It was a little harder to lose the weight this time; I actually had to make an effort to do so, LOL! I think it is because I have hit my 30s (I'm 32). My eating habits have always been pretty poor, but I think with age my metabolism is changing. With baby #3, it has been a little difficult to watch things but I am determined to try!:)

Good luck with your goals!

Jen,

I think I have a bit of your thinking as well. I pick at a lot of the stuff that my kids eat. I keep thinking that if I did not work out, I could be as big as a house! And you are right, Cathe does have the best workouts - I love them!:)

Tracy, my story is word-for-word the same as yours. Thought I was eating fairly clean but WAY too many carbs & not balanced enough. I had always read that diet counted for...what? 90% or so? I didn't want to believe it, but it's true.

I still love my carbs, darn it. But I've cut WAAAY back on them.

I have been at my goal and will be at it again after the first of the year, just being careful not to gain to much over the holidays... last yr had 11 to get rid of, trying to keep it around 5 this yr.... after the first of the yr, have to get back after it..... Rhonda:7

RE: What is the biggest thing holding you back from mee...

Its the eating for me. And it's worse right now due to the holiday food.

But I'm not worried about it right now. The new year is around the corner, and I'll get back to it then.
