what is "floating debris"?

Tallchick

Cathlete
I read Cathe's explanation of her knee injury (ouch), and am wondering what the "floating debris" which was removed from her knee is.
When I think of floating debris, I think of twigs and leaves, but I am assuming this is not what was in her knee.
Can anyone explain? Thank you.

RE: what is

Probably bone fragments like Toasty said

.. or it could be scar tissue ... scar tissue can form then lessen or break up .. or unfortunatly hang on for dear life ...

RE: what is

It can be bone fragments and torn cartiledge. Or what others are saying as well. It was probably a combination of everything, being that she wasn't specific. Just my guess though.

RE: what is

I can't help myself when this stuff gets asked, I go running for my 'Mosby's Medical Dictionary'. It gives a general description of 'the dead, diseased, or damaged tissue and any foreign material that is to be removed from a wound or other area being treated'. I've also looked in my book of 'Athletic Injury Assessment' and got some knee trivia, the synovial cavity of the knee is the largest joint space of the body extending 4-6 cms (about 3 finger-breadths)'. It's hard to say what the debris might be specifically as the knee, anatomically speaking, is an extremely busy joint with ligaments, caritlage, tendons, joint capsules, menisci, bursae and muscles (among other things) all working together......

Maybe too much information (sorry if it is) but I am a geek about anatomy and the like, it absolutley fascinates me!

Hi Laurie,

I tried e-mailing you, but it came back. I have a question about your 'Athletic Injury Assessment' book.

Hey Dallas, try PM'ing me, I'll have to check my settings later to see what's up with the e-mail thing. I'd be happy to try to help if I can:)
