What Exercises When Away and No Access to Cathe?

Hey all,

We just bought a boat that we are docking in San Diego, CA. We will be out here about 2 weeks a month, I am here now. But access to a gym will not be available until next month. The boat is not big enough to workout on, so Cathe is out.

What do you guys do when away from home? I cannot run, so have been walking alot and then doing abs and leg and butt lifts when I get back! I am co-depended on Cathe and cannot wait to get back to her when I get back to Las Vegas!:)

It is a beautiful city, the weather is perfecto :7 Thanks for all of your suggestions here, I feel like I gained some fat being here and not lifting like I usually do.:-(

I'd do wall sits, I'd buy or bring my band for resistance work, I'd work hard on planks, pushups, etc. For cardio, I'd do burpees, terminators, jumping jacks, etc. (I love thinking about burpees on a boat, LOL!)

I generally run when I don't have access to anything else.

There is a cardio coach pump workout that is great for traveling. It uses weights, but you could probably use resistance bands if that works better for you. It's about 30 min long. Also, you could do walking lunges, squats, bridges, plie squats, tricep dips, push ups, pull ups, etc... Also maybe you could go through all your Cathe workouts and figure out what exercises she does with a band and write them down and do them. Good luck. Oh, and I love San Diego. I am so jealous.

Drat! Too bad you didn't arrive here in San Diego a month earlier when we were having a heat wave. Ugh! Hope you leave before the storm arrives this Friday. No fun being on a boat in stormy weather. x(

Have you ever considered hiking? There are some great hiking trails out here. Torrey Pines just north of La Jolla is beautiful (and I typically go there every weekend). Want a more challenging hike? Then try Iron Mountain in East County (do a google search for it). It's lots of fun, safe, and very popular. You also can go to Mission Trails Park for lots of hiking options.

Hope this helps.

Of course! You all reminded me of so many options! We got here (Shelter Island) last Thursday, so we caught a bit of the heat.:) We leave tomorrow, so will beat the storm, but I love the rain.

I have been walking along the water-so pretty. The hiking trails sound like fun and La Jolla is so beautiful. Thanks for the suggestions.

I work right around the corner from where your boat is in port. I work on the Navy base in Point Loma (sea side). :)

I second the suggestions for Torrey Pines and also Mission Trails! Both have such beautiful scenery! They are both only about a twenty-minute drive from where you're docking your boat. REI also sells a great book called Afoot and Afield in San Diego, which also has wonderful walks and hikes listed in it.

If you have room for a bike on your boat, you could also explore the area by bike since there are a lot of bike paths that connect all the coastal cities (PB, OB, Point Loma, etc.).

If you want to take advantage of the beautiful year-round weather here, you might also consider a year-round pass to the SD Zoo. Some of my friends who live near the zoo have zoo passes just so they can walk there; the animals are fun to look at, and there are several killer hills you can tackle.

We sure get spoiled by the cooler weather here, although Vegas sure is a lot of fun!

Wow, I have fellow Cathe fans living right around the corner! When I was out walking, I see these super fit gals running by and always wonder if they are "Cathe" fans! Maybe one of them was one of you guys, who knows?

I am loving San Diego so far, everyone is so beautiful in this city, as opposed to Vegas, where alot of the people are, but most are just hot, tired and pissed off for whatever reason!:)

The weather is wonderful, I went to the Giverny exhibit in the museum next to the zoo. I an going to drag my DH to the zoo and Seaworld next trip!

Do make a point to see the Dead Sea Scrolls in Balboa Park (in the museum of natural science). The scrolls will be rotating to a new set in October....

Yes, and if you love theatre, the Old Globe in Balboa Park is just finishing up their summer Shakespeare series, and they have wonderful plays year-round!
