what do you think?

I read that hip extension exercises are more effective than lunges or squats. the one where you are on all fours and you lift you leg towards the ceiling. I dont know how true this is but would like to see which would produce the best results since this is my problem area still.

Laura,
For me, lunges take the cake as the hardest. But I LOVE what they do for my glutes! I will keep doing them until my arthritic toes fall off. (I find them to be a bit hard on my toes, but that's probably because I'm too lazy to put my sneakers on. :p)

Squats and lunges for me. I really like that Cathe tends to put them at the beginning of her workouts so I can get them over with! I have found squats (especially plie squats) to be very effective for me. My legs were always pretty toned but there was always that giggle factor on the inner thighs. Now, my entire leg is toned and sleek.

If I had to choose only one lower body exercise that is effective and hits every muscle in the lower body, it would be a one-legged squat. They are effective even with just body weight, and the balance challenge calls the inner and outer thigh muscles into play much more than more stable squats or lunges.

These are isolation exercises, so while they might target the glutes more directly, they don't work the entire leg. I do thing they are a good exercise to use with squats and lunges (since most of us can use a little more work in that area, LOL!).

Lunges- power lunges, walking lunges, any kind of lunges & squats too!! Good thing Cathe *makes us* do them!! ;-) The leg blast premix of Butts & Guts is a goodie!!

I will have to try that jess, thanks! lunges are definately hardest, especially power lunges, oooh feel the burn!
