What do you think of celebrity-endorsed fitness programs?

Hmm, the Oprah post made me think of one of my major pet peeves: celebrity-endorsed fitness regimens. I am cynical by nature, but I am sooooo suspicious of any fitness activity that is endorsed by a celebrity.

Does anyone remember when Cher (!) came out with her workout videos in the 90s? I saw her on one of the morning shows and the first thing she said is, "This is the first time I'm doing this workout." I thought that was incredibly stupid, I mean, aren't they at least supposed to pay lip service to "this is how you can look like me"? Not that Cher is a great role model.... Maybe she should have done a plastic-surgery how-to instead.

Anyway, thoughts?

I didn't mind the Brooke Burke Core Secrets endorsements. The workout was led by the Gunnar Petersen and they were pretty sensible. Not that I would believe she got that body just by doing swiss ball workouts. As long as they add that " Added to a sensible diet and several hours of cardio...you will see some results...hopefully..." Then it's all good. Most of the time I just check out what people on this board endorse!

Hi Marie,

I'm with ya on this one. I don't know anything about the latest Oprah fitness thing (mostly because I'm not a fan of hers anyway), but given the number of fads she's gone through over the years, I'd be skeptical.

One celebrity exercise/fitness video that is worth its salt is Ali McGraw's "Yoga Mind & Body", but in that she's only a participant and not the instructor.

Didn't Cher have a rib removed or something in order to make herself slimmer?? Yikes!

There are some celebrity endorsed fitness workouts that aren't bad, esp. for beginners. I like Elle McPeherson's workout that Karen Voight led. And the Cindy Crawford workout (which was also led by someone else) was pretty good, too. A lot of the VF's really liked Cher's New Attitude workout. Again, someone else led it. However, there are some that are pure TRASH! I think Regis led one that showed him walking on the treadmill for 10 minutes. And Zsa Zsa Gabor did one that was real pathetic.

I just can't get into them. The Cher thing permanently turned me off to celeb videos. That freakin piece of lingerie she wore was ridiculous. I cannot imagine trying to do squats wearing a black lace corset.

>I I cannot imagine trying to do squats
>wearing a black lace corset.

Okey! Who told you what "I" wear working out?

And its not so much the corset.......its the heels Im wearing, thats the killer

You have to stay in shape. My grandmother started walking when she was 60. Today she is 97 and we don't know where the hell she is! - Ellen DeGeneres

I havent got the video but I have a pole in my workout room

As long as you have a really sturdy ceiling, anyone can have one
