What do, or will, your children call their grandparents?

When I called to give my mother the news that she'd be a grandmother, I gave her the assignment to decide what she'd like to be called. She asked what my MIL is called by her four grandsons: Grammy. So, over a month later, my mom is uncharacteristically quiet about this!

What are your parents called? And what did you call your grandparents? I was the fourth grandchild on both sides of the family, so my grandparents' names were already decided: GM and GP, and Grandma and Grandpa.

The kids call my mother Nana and MIL grammy. She chose grammy out of other names I thought was better. MIL should be called Crummy. :p }(

Our three sons call theirs Grandma (insert first name) and Grandpa (insert first name). We wanted them to know their grandparents first names in case they happened to get seperated from them and needed help to find them. It is easier to find someone when you have a name.

We planned on having our kids call their grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa. My oldest son couldn't say those names and ended up calling them Nam (for Grandma) and Papa. His younger brothers just followed along until my MIL decided that she didn't like Nam anymore and wanted to be called Gramma because that's what my niece calls her.

So, the paternal grandparents are Gramma and Papa, maternal grandparents are Nam and Papa.

I called my grandparents Grandma and Grandpa.

RE: What do, or will, your children call their grandpar...

It's always been grandma and grandpa in my family...never anything else so my mom will be grandma for certain. If DH wishes his parents to be called something else then that's up to him! :) I think his sister's kids call them nanny and poppy and I can't recall what he called his grandparents...??

RE: What do, or will, your children call their grandpar...

I called my grandparents Mam-Mam and Pap-Pap (mom's side) and Granny and Pap (dad's side). Gabe calls my mom mam-mam and my dad pap. He calls Mark's dad Pappy and Mark's stepmom Ma (he couldn't say Grandma).

Hi! Although my son can't talk yet (he is almost 6 weeks), when he gets older, he will call my parents grammam and grandpap (that's what my sister, brother and I called one set of our grandparents), and for the in-laws, it will be pop-pop and nana. I do agree with Lisa that MIL should be crummy (or in my case, jealous crabbynana)-she thinks I am taking her grandson away from her (I have no idea why), and she cries every time she leaves from a visit (we only live one hour away). Give me a break!!!

Alexander calls DH's mom and dad Memaw & Pap. Whereas my mom wants to be called Mamaw. My grandmothers are called Grandma (insert last name) or right now Alexander calls them Grammy.

Isn't it funny how there are so many names for grandparents. I've always loved Nana but noone in my family wants to be called that.

Don't you love the names that kids come up with when they can't say "Grandma" and "Grandpa"? I had a friend who called her grandmother and great grandmother Gagi and Fafi. (???) I know of a grandfather who is Gump. And a new grandmother whose grandson won't call her anything but Bugga.

Our parents are Grandpa and Grandma, on both sides of the family. We distinguish them by attaching their last name (Grandma and Grandpa Rastin versus Grandma and Grandpa Brown). I like all the creative variations there are for grandparents!

I get a kick out of all of the cute names as well but plain old grandma and grandpa are near and dear to this gal's heart...I couldn't imagine having called my grandparents anything else...It's gonna be weird at first even to hear my children call DH's parents something different if it happens that way....
