OK, so what will I really be able to wear home from the hospital? lol! In other forums women have been saying that they looked 7 months pregnant for weeks after delivery, but I just can't wrap my head around that. I mean I *know* I won't be leaving without a belly, but that seems a bit much to me. So, I figured I needed to ask those of you on this forum who have already given birth, b/c I know you are as fitness oriented as I am. I am just finishing my 36th week and have gained 16 pounds so far. I'm figuring I'll end up at about 20, and I'm still exercising regularly and hope to continue and just modify as I go to the very end. It's the belly that remains a mystery. Will I be able to wear a babydoll top? I was thinking of getting one. Help!!! lol!

Some stretchy capris/pants/shorts and a loose top. If that's all you've gained you sure won't be very big when you leave the hospital! You're doing great!

I agree about wearing stretchy bottoms. If you end up having a c-section, you might be tender in the abdominal area and not want anything with zippers. I think you'll be fine with a babydoll top.

When I went into labor I put a clean pair of jeans and a stretchy maternity top on. I wore the same thing home.

Thing comfy, not beautiful. How about some sweats? With my first DH I brought my "baggie" pre-pregnancy jeans. They didn't fit at all despite myself feeling really skinny. Then I cried for 2 hours. I was 20 then, I've learned since then!

I gained 23 pounds and then 22 pounds with my girls. I wore home some under the bellymaternity maternity capris and a tighter fitting maternity top. I took about 2 weeks to lose the pregnant look, since uterus is elarged and body is filled with fluids. I'd say I left the hospital looking about 4-5 months pregnant.

Considering I gained 55 pounds with both of my boys, I was in a different boat than you. Sixteen pounds, really???? I'm SOOOO jealous!! But I second the suggestion of sweats or yoga pants that are big and stretchy. I'd also take some maternity pants in case you had to have a c/s for some reason. You'd want some pants that didn't touch your incision. I looked about 6 months preg when I left the hospital, but more than that, my legs were VERY swollen from the thighs down for about a week.

Now, the most important item to bring to the hospital in my opinion is GOOD SOAP. The shower after you give birth is the best shower of your life, so indulge in some mighty fine bath gel and a nice shower poof. You will be SO glad you did!!

Congratulations!!! :)

I agree when it comes to bringing good soap. You are right...it is the best shower of your life!

I'd add that I hate wearing the gowns in the hospital; I like to get up and walk around and those gowns are the worst for doing that. I always bring cut off sweats and dark tee/tank shirts to wear in the hospital (you'll probably find the hospital hot even if you deliver in the middle of January). And comfy slide on shoes like clogs. Don't bring fancy pj's though- you'll ruin them. I also bring my worn out jog bras, but I don't usually wear nursing bras (I like to slide my boob out from under the cup).

When I left the hospital, I wore stretchy yoga pants and a snug maternity shirt. I usually look about 4-5 months pregnant.

Thanks so much for all of the responses! I really appreciate the input! I think I'm so "done" it's hard to think clearly sometimes! lol!

In my horrible experience, I gained 18 lbs with dd, due to a nasty case of nausea/followed by GERD. I had a really cute outfit planned to wear home because I thought, gee I haven't gained much weight. What happened was a csection, and they filled me up with so much fluid that I actually gained weight. My legs were like tree trunks and my abdomen was so tender and distended. I had to wear my maternity clothes I wore in home. I cried my eyes out. So in summary, please bring something very easy to put on with plenty of room. And if it is too big? when you get home change! Good luck to you and great job on your weigh gain!
I also totally agree about the soap!
