I need to lose about 30 Lbs and currently i am doing cardio and weights(light) but i want to put more emphasis on whatever burns the most calories, so for all you experts..which burns more? Also, i have read the "results are in" post that rates the difficulty of all cathe's workouts but i haven't had any luck finding info on which worouts burn the most calories. If anyone knows any info about this, please enlighten me. Thanks!

I would suggest putting in one interval workout(imax's, taebo, mindy mylrea, cycling) and one circuit workout (like Bodymax, Circuit Max,Firm) one total body weight workout (MIS, PowerHour, SS/PP, ME) plus two steady state aerobics (1 hour in length) and try to eat as clean as you can. You should see results. Of course tweek it as you go along to fit your needs.

Also don't try to lose 30 lbs in a month. Slow N Steady always works better because you are working on a LIFESTYLE change and not just a quick fix.

I have always had the best results with heavy weight work, at least 1-2 interval cardios/week and clean eating (definately hard for me...)
I have been at and maintaining goal weight for many years.
I love to do circuit workouts, but don't think they really serve any specific goal-related function in a fitness routine... i could be wrong. And i think lifting light weights is a waste of time.

Just my opinion;-) :)

I agree...interval cardio once or twice a week & other cardio...as much as you can reasonably do in a week. Heavy lifting...very important IMO. Running helps if you can stand it.:p

The most important thing when trying to lose weight, unfortunately, is the clean eating. ~sigh~

Good luck & have fun,
Ruth:)

Cardio usually burns more while you're actually doing it (though heavy weight work with squats and dadlifts burns quite a bit), but I've read that intense weight workouts have more of an "afterburn" effect than cardio, increasing the metaboic rate for 24-48 hours later.

I agree
Cardio does burn calories DURING the workout, and weight training produces a longer and higher metabolic rate AFTER the workout.

For myself, I find if I want to loose weight, then increasing my Cardio workouts during the week, and for a longer duration, produces results. Then, just to "fine tweek" my body, Ill substatute 2 cardio workouts for weight training.

Healthy eating - NOT DIETING - is also the key. A lot of Cardio requires more carbohydrate (think "brown" foods, not "white" in your eating plan, and alot of weight training requires more protein in your eating plan.

Good luck :)

thank you all very much for your advise. after reading all your answers i have come to the conclusion that i nead to incorporate heavy lifting into my workouts. I have been afraid to do this because when i have done this in the past, i have bulked up pretty fast. i don't want that look. i am just going for definition and toning. Also, i find it very frustrating when the scales go up due to muscle growth. I know inches are the important thing.....So all of that said, difficulty not included, what are your favorite NEWER cathe strength training videos? Right now i cant lift more than 10 lbs in high rep but i'm working on it. how much weight is "heavy" ?

wendypa---re: your comment about light weight being a waste of time, does that mean you skip all the light weight stuff incorporated in c&w and body fusion?

thanks again!

What is "heavy" is somewhat subjective. For each in individual, it's what they can lift for a small number of reps (6-8) with good form, but can't do another rep with. What seems "heavy" for a beginner will be light for an advanced exerciser.

The maximum weight one will ever be able to lift (the "heaviest" weight for each person) depends a lot on body structure and genetics. If you have short muscle insertions, you'll be ableto lift heavier than someone with longer muscle insertions.

Don't worry about what others can lift. Just do what works for you. But for best results, make sure those last 2 reps in a set a very difficult, but still possible to do with good form. And that you couldn't do another rep with good form.
