What are your goals?

Hi everybody,

Is your goal to look like Cathe?

I think my ultimate goal is to be fit and lean, and to be able to maintain a healthy weight. (I currently have about 20 pounds to lose.)

I don't think I would be upset if I never had a 6-pack. I think I would be thrilled if people thought "wow, that girl looks fit, she obviously eats right and exercises."

I am curious to find out other peoples goals, have they evolved for you?

Thanks,
Lori

Hi Lori,

For me, my first & foremost goals were to quit smoking & lose weight. Did the first, still doing the second. Over time I found new goals, such as trying to undo some of the damage smoking did to me....retain/add to my strength, remain flexible, beat osteoporosis & altzheimers....in other words, my goals evolved as I aged! LOL

Besides, I love it. And no, I have no illusions of ever looking like Cathe!:7

Hi Lori,

First, the most important goal for me is staying healthy and fit. I had my son in my late thirties and I want to be able to keep up with him. I want to be an active and energetic Mom, not a tired, worn-out one. Second, loosing a few more pounds and getting a flat tummy would be nice.

Hi Lori! My general ongoing goals are to increase strength, flexibility and cardio capacity. Since I turned 40 almost three years ago, I set a birthday goal each year which helps me to improve in the above areas. I give myself until my next birthday to accomplish the goal and, so far, I've accomplished each one. At 40, I wanted to be able to do a split, so I started doing yoga. Not only can I do a split, but my flexibility has increased dramatically in all areas. At 41, I wanted to be able to do five straight-leg push-ups. That was a tough one for me! At the time, I could barely do one. I can now do ten on a good day and am always looking to improve in that area. At 42, I wanted to be able to do a "teaser" (a Pilates move) and I can now do a pretty darn good one! That was very tough for me as well. I'll be 43 next month, and my goal is to do an unassisted pull-up, which I can't imagine ever being able to do. But, frankly, I felt the same way about the teaser. At this time last year, I thought it would be impossible.

As far as looks go, my goal is not to look like Cathe, but I would love my abs to look flatter and more defined. I wouldn't mind more overall muscle mass either because I feel I'm too thin.

Thanks for asking! :)

I struggle with the last 5 vanity pounds, but really, my goal is to be as strong as I can, fit in every way (flexibility, strength, cardio endurance), to keep my joints healthy (I had a bad car accident at 19 and have to be careful with my knees), and to keep good energy and functionality as long into the Age of Decrepitude as I can. I am now 47, and all is rather good.

Hi,my goal is to keep my stomach functioning, yep i know that sounds strange but its true.I have a condition called delayed gastric emptying, basicly it means my entire digestive system is very slow,it makes me feel like i have the stomach flu to different degrees everyday and it never goes away .There are only 2 medications that are legal in the U.S. for this ,1 i cant tolerate and the other is a low dose of antibiotics taken several times a day and since i hated the thought of having to do that i did some research and found that vigorous exercise can help so i tried it and it did so i no longer have to take the antibiotics Yeah!!It isn't easy ,i still have to take anti-nausa meds everyday and i have alot of days when i am weak but i push on through and modify ,modify, modify!!Besides that i am determined that one day i will have an actual bicep muscle that others can see when i am not flexing, lol !!! Mrsscififanec

I have several goals. #1 is to remain active, I try to workout first-thing in the morning for @ an hour then I try to get my 10,000 steps in thru-out the day. #2 is to increase my core strength which I am doing thru Cathe's Ab Hits and Swiss Ball Abs #3 is to lose the weight and fit comfortably into size 8 jeans.
I feel like if I work on the first 2 goals the 3 is sure to come in time.

I am always working on clean eating.

Hi Lori,

Absolutely I would love to look like Cathe, but realistically speaking, it is just not possible. It would be nice to look like someone who works out 6 days a week though. That's the frustrating part for me. I don't really look any different than some of my coworkers who don't work out at all or follow a healthy diet. Although I'm certain to be heathier than they are, lower risk of heart disease, cancer, lower cholesteral etc. Things you can't see on the outside. As for my goals, I want to be able to keep up with my 3 active sons. I'm a cardio junkie but am currently doing a S&H rotation. I also agree with the previous poster about our goals changing as we age.

My goals for working out are constantly being tweaked a bit. My one constant goal is to stay healthy which includes having strength, endurance, flexibility, etc.. But, my other more superficial goal is to have flat abs with a bit of definition. But I guess I don't have a drive to look like Cathe-maybe thats because I know it could never happenx( . Also, now that my husband and I are thinking about having children I want to make sure I am in the best possible health for not only my pregnancy but also so I can be healthy for my future child.:)

Great thread!:)

I graduated from college this past august and my goal was to lose 30 Lbs by christmas, but here we are almost to Thanksgiving and i havent lost any! but i haven't gained and i have been consistantly doing cathe's stuff for almost 3 full weeks. so...
1. lose 30 lbs
2. don't gain any more weight!!
3. get back into all my small size 8 clothes
4. stop being addicted to this forum
:D

I carry body fat in the upper abdomen and the hips. My goal is to be able to sit down in a pair of jeans and have NOTHING hanging over the waistline! I've lost 15 lbs and getting closer. I think 10-15lbs more should do it--I hope. I guess we'll just see when we get there.;-)

I'm always working on the thighs (thank you very much!) that just want to do their own thing! I do not have weight issues so I just focus on toning, strength, keeping healthy and being the best I can be and looking for the next Cathe workout! :) :)

Interesting thread...
I would love to look like Cathe, but am a completely different build/body type. I am tall and slim overall, which means I'm happy with how I look when dressed. But I have difficulty gaining muscle and am way to skinny (bony) on the upper half and have a layer of fat on my lower half that I don't like (pear shaped I suppose). The only parts I'm really happy about are my abs/back which are lean and defined. So, looks-wise, I decided recently that my goal is to gain A LOT of muscle, especially on my upper body, then later (maybe a year from now?) work on leaning up a bit.

Fitness-wise, my goal is mostly to maintain. I don't think I'm not as fit as many of the people on this board, but I know I'm fitter than the average person in their thirties. I don't want to overdo the cardio or endurance work while I'm trying to gain muscle but I do want to increase strength.

Sharon

Edited to add: I forgot that a major goal for me at the moment is to increase my protein intake, so that I am eating protein 5 times a day. I think lack of consistency here has been the inhibiting factor in my previous efforts to gain muscle.

1. Maintain my health
2. increase flexability
2. prevent middle age spread
3. maintain current cardio capicity and strength
4. improve my tennis game
5. improve my golf game

PS I am 43, until next month and have been a consistant exerciser for the last 15 years, and active in sports before that.

For me my goal is always be the best ME I can be. I know I'll never look like Cathe but I look darn good for me. I am just about 37 years old, have 2 beautiful kids and a strong firm, body too! I hope to keep wearing my size 4's for a good long time! I used to want to be more muscular but as I've gotten older I like the new me. I'm muscular,in a lean way. My goal now is to get my hubby to take a picture of me so I can show you all what I do look like! :p
Whatever your goals are, focus, have discipline and do the best for YOU- Susan
