What should I be eating after I do high intensity cardio and how long after is best to eat? I have heard so many different things about eating after a workout and I just dont know what is the best.

Protien and Carbs

In my opinion and with my clients I always advocate a balance of protein and carbs after high intensity cardio. Not sure how long you did it for, but for longer bouts of cardio stick to something quick digesting so it replenishes the muscles faster, like a protien shake with 1/2 a banana mixed in. For shorter bouts of cardio just keep it to a smaller serving. You won't need much, because you didn't expend for a long duration. You have a small window of oppurtunity to eat before your insulin gets out of control and you start storing fat, which is generally within 30-45 mins after your workouts. And don't neglect the water too! One more thing: try to avoid fats right after your workouts because they tend to slow digestion down and deter the muscle from getting the nutrients it needs right away.
