We're home - and the circus continues! (baby story)

GraceNote

Cathlete
Hello!

The best news: Gillian Grace arrived at 7:07 Monday morning following 5 hours of induced labor. 5 pounds, 14 ounces, 19 inches. She's perfect, but we're waiting for my milk to come in - she was down to 5lb 5oz when we left the hospital and starting to have jaundice issues, so we tried some formula last night. She's wonderful!
The good news: no stitches, no stretch marks and I can see the beginnings of my waist starting to appear ;-) (Not that there's not A LOT of work to be done, but I won't do a complete 'damage assessment' until next week)
The circus: details will have to wait, but the basic gist is that we spent the 12 hours prior to leaving for our induction appt in the ER with another medical emergency courtesy of DH. He may be going back in tomorrow. I will be scheduling a nervous breakdown for sometime early spring, I think...that's the only time open on our current schedule ;-)

Later, ladies - gotta go feed my little one - pics when I get a chance to unload the camera!

Congrats! I'm so glad the birth went well for you. Can't wait to hear the details about your DH--sounds like it was pretty crazy.

Congratulations!!! 5lbs 14oz? So tiny! She must be just adorable. I hope your DH is okay; that sounds like quite the stressful situation. I can't wait to here the details when you get a chance. Good luck with your new bundle (don't you just love the smell of a newborn?).

Cheers!
Sandra

More congratulations....I'm sure she's beautiful.

Hey you didn't throw a dumbbell at your dh while you were in labor did ya???? I almost did that when my dh fell asleep during my transition time for the my second child. Hope dh is feeling better and that you have a quick recovery and a newborn who sleeps very well so you can get some rest ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) .

Gracenote--congratulations! I'm glad everything went well. I hope your dh feels better soon. What a time for a medical emergency--scheduling a nervous breakdown! LOL:D.

Seriously, though, I hope you have some help from friends or family, so that you can get some rest.

Take good care and enjoy your newborn.

Maggie:)

Congradulations on your little one! I'm glad in the end all went well. Can't wait to hear the rest of the story - hope your DH recoops too!

Happy Thanksgiving! :)

grace note - good work! i cannot wait to see pictures. sounds like everything went well though exciting. let us know the details when you can breathe again....

Yahoo! Our babies are almost identical in size!! So teeny!!! What's with DH? Hopefully he's okay. My DH came to visit in hospital and actually took a nap in my hospital bed while I watched the 3 boys & strolled them around the hospital. He was so exhausted. It was too cute. :)
Congrats again! Give us more details when you have time. Oh, love your daughters name. How is it pronounced? Jill-e-on? Just curious. :)

RE: the circus continues! (baby story) ** Update

Whew! Finally the house is clear of visitors, guests, and helpers! We're getting back to normal, so I thought I could pop back in and finish the details.

DH is fine - despite the two weeks of pain, nausea and other symptoms plus two trips to the ER, he does not have appendicitis, diverticulitis, colitis or a hernia. It was most likely a stomach virus combined with a high groin muscle strain. His current symptoms are due, in part, to the strong antibiotics he's been on and he has orders to 'take it easy' for a few weeks.

We had his parents here all of last week, and my mother here the past two days. This was a HUGE help last Sunday, the day I was scheduled to be induced: I drove DH to the ER (40 min each way), waited for him to be checked in, drove home to get the dog to take her to the kennel, went back to ER, got DH's Dr. to give me his prescriptions, drove around for 30 min. looking for a pharmacy that was open, waited for them, back to ER.

At this point, I arrived in the middle of a police/lawyer/media frenzy. See if you can follow this: a rich guy (Mr. X) had been injured by angry husband (Mr. Y) of female guest (Mrs. Y). Mr. Y had been KILLED in the same altercation. Mr. X (injured and bleeding)was being arraigned right in the ER, down a few curtains from DH. Mrs. Y was sobbing in the parking lot across the aisle from my car, talking to three state troopers...what a scene. I have never been in the middle of anything like that before! We were in the ER until 9:30 p.m. then flew home to pack my suitcase and get to the hospital for our appt. at midnight. I had to drive us because DH was drugged up on Percoset, but we were home free after we arrived. Luckily, everything went smoothly and I was home by Wednesday afternoon, in time to start preparing for Thanksgiving dinner. MIL cooked almost everything, so all I had to do was keep the kids occupied and set the table.

I have to put in a plug for exercise during pregnancy - a week after delivery, I feel great and am so excited about getting back in shape ASAP. I truly believe that all those 'drag your butt through it even when it doesn't feel like a workout' workouts really make a difference in how good you feel at the end and beyond, into post partum recovery.

Gillian is up to 6 pounds as of today's appointment and her bili levels are dropping, so we won't have to go back until January. She's beautiful and healthy, and nursing like a champ. I wish we could store up these early weeks and hold on to them forever - there's nothing like snuggling a tiny newborn baby!

Hope you are all well, and will be catching up on reading posts as soon as I can.

KC

Edited to add - Melanie, I just saw your post and your response in this thread! Isn't it funny the baby sizes are so close! We're pronouncing Gillian exactly the way you're thinking: Jill-ee-an. I saw the Yoga Booty Ballet infomercial for the first time while I was in the hospital and had a PANIC moment when the instructor, Gillian, introduced herself as Gill(like the fish gill)-ee-an, but after conferring with all available staff and nurses :) :), was relieved to find that the Jill-ee-an pronounciation is socially accpetable and much more the norm, at least as far as they knew. Congratulations on your own fabulous delivery and here's to a quick and happy recovery!

Oh my word Gracenote....what adventures you birthing mothers who deliver at hospitals endure!!! All I could think was how uneventful our homebirths are and I think I'm thankful.    . You sure had an interesting time!!!

You will have stories to tell for years to come!!!! Glad all turned out okay and again... BIG congratulations.

Briee (the most interesting thing that happened to us at home was right after baby came out our old english mastiff came into the bathroom (that's where my birthing tub was) and reached over and took a drink from the tub and walked out - I was thinking...this NEVER happens at the hospital. ;) ;) ;) ;) )
