Emy,

Thank you so much. I was taking her sleeper off over her head and I couldn't resist the photo op. I feel so blessed to have her.:)

And, thanks for your advice on the post about peeing during running. I replied to you there but here's what I wrote:
Everything "downstairs" just feels different now and I can't even describe it but sometimes it still feels like my insides are going to drop out(if that makes any sense). I figure I'll probably need a hysterectomy somewhere down the road especially after we have another child somewhere in the future. But, when I went for my 6 week check, my doctor said that I look "down there" like I've never had a baby. I'm sure he was lying.

How about you? Do you feel completely healed? (You'll have to remind me, how long has it been?)

I really feel this is something that people will not talk about (but I wish they would!) I agree about everything "downstairs" feeling very different. Interestingly, I feel that it was worse after baby no. 1 than baby no. 2. I really felt like my insides were going to drop out after my first child. That and my incontinence and episiotomy pain really bothered me. I have incontinence #1 and #2, BTW. It is confusing and I went to 4 different doctors after my first baby. One of them blamed my episiotomy for part of my problems, but others just said sometimes this happens after childbirth.

One thing that I think may have made a difference this time around (my daughter is now 6 months) is that I waited for almost 3 months to start exercising. Somehow I feel that helped a bit with not feeling so much like the organs down there were just going to fall out of my po po.

I just wish I had complete knowledge of what has and is going on with my body. It bothers me that I don't!

Edited to add: As far as what your doc said, I hear you on not trusting him. This is just my experience also after going to so many doctors with my post-childbirth issues.

Do you have any episiotomy pain after having a 4th degree tear?

Hey Emy and Wendy....I had an episiotomy with my 1st and had LOADS of problems afterwards. Painful intercourse for almost 1 1/2 years, some incontinence and terrible pain. With baby number two I told the doc NO EPISIOTOMY. I tore EVERYWHERE It took him 2 hours and about 100 stitches to sew me up. He said it looked like a train wreck when he saw all my tearing in my vaginal canal. Interestingly....I felt NO pain 5 weeks post partum and intercourse didn't hurt at all after all this tearing and stitching. The moral of the story being (in my opinion only)....we tear where we should and when a doc cuts us with a knife...it just isn't natural or placed where it maybe should be. I've heard other opinions...but many have said the same. When you tear....you tear where you should. (yes I've also heard of women tearing back to their rectum....but in almost every case she was delivering the baby on her back in a completely UNNATURAL position.). I'm interested to hear what wendy experienced. Sorry to jump into your post....I love your picture too wendy!!

I am a freak of nature, but I preferred my episiotomy with my DD over the tear with DS. NO comparison. The area that tore felt "funny" (very medical and professional word :) for 3 months.

I felt like my uterus was falling out for a couple of months after having DS. I actually got a mirror and looked. I just knew I was going to see my uterus and prepared myself. I was wrong but it sure felt different for a few months. I kegel anytime I strain (lifting, ab work, etc.) and it seemed to help. I feel normal now but don't remember how long it took.

Wendy, your DD is beautiful!!! She really is.

Hi Everybody,

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to these forums-it's been a rough week.

First, thanks for the comments about Brooke:)

Emmy - That is very interesting that it was worse after #1. I would have thought that it would be worse after #2 since everything is already "loosened up down there" - for lack of better words.

As with exercising, I started about 1 1/2 weeks after Brooke was born but it's wierd because I didn't and still don't have any trouble stepping, kickboxing or any other activity - it's just running. And since it's been about 20-30 degrees here since I posted, I haven't been out running since.

I totally agree about wishing I had complete knowledge of what has and is going on with my body.

As far as episiotomy pain after having a 4th degree tear, I didn't have any real "pain" at all after the first week or so. It was a bit tender for a while but that was about it. Except for the first few bowel movements (OUCH!!!!! I cried every time for at 2 days!) Now, that was PAIN!!!

Briee- OMGosh! Very interesting. It does make sense though that "we tear where we should and when a doc cuts us with a knife...it just isn't natural or placed where it maybe should be."

Autumn - Yep - I've done the mirror trick too - it did feel like everything was falling out. My mom actually had trouble with this, thus her hysterectomy so I expected it too.

I'm thinking of making a sign "KEGELS" and putting it in my bathroom so I remember. Maybe I should frame it so it blends in with the pictures on the wall;)
