Just wanted to share that we went to the court house today and after much waiting, we were escorted to the judges office where the papers were signed. So legally...DD is now DH's child. He as raised her since she was just 18 monthes so this was absolutely what we wanted (she is almost 10 now)! We were very excited about it but I just worked the night shift so I was a little more contained that what I would normally be.
DD's father knew that this was taking place today and although I don't really care, I couldn't help but think that maybe he felt some sort of guilt today. You would think...but he probably didn't. Anyway...I just wanted to share in our joy!:)

congrats, like all the commericals say "it take a MAN to be a FATHER" and your dh proves it.

Lori,

Congratulations! That is so wonderful, I got a little teary eyed when I read your post (we see a lot of child abuse and neglect in DH's line of work). I think it's so great that your DH wanted to BE her daddy! He's a keeper, that's for sure.

Michele:)

Congratulations. I'm glad your husband has been a real father to your little girl. She and you are very blessed to have such a man in your lives. Thanks for sharing this.

Maggie:)

Lori-

Just a heads-up. Now that your DH's legal relationship to your DD has changed, it might be a good time to have your Wills done if you haven't already done so. I don't know what the law is in your state, but in NY if your DH died without a Will, half his estate would now go to your DD instead of to you.

As a mom with an adopted daughter, I know how special this day can be. We had our daughter as a foster placement for several years, through visitation with bio parents, etc...to finally getting to the obvious...she was meant to be with us!!

It was a bit strange when the judge said "You are finally a family now" because she had been with us for years and we all already felt that way, but still, it was an emotional day full of happiness.

We went right out and took a professional "family" photo!

Congratulations Lori!! I am so happy this day has finally come for all of you:D :D :D

Thanks everyone!:) :) I knew you gals would like my news:)

Dani- It was werid today b/c DH's mom was so excited and warned us that she might cry.DH said to her, "why"? In his eyes he as been her father for 8 yrs so it was just a formality to him. But there is something about it that makes it real, even though nothing really changed.

Nancy- One of the reasons we did this was b/c I was afraid something would happen to me and the next thing you know...DD is shipped off to live with her father.DH would have lost both us and that would have been HORRIBLE! I don't think we have to worry about that here but we do need to get a Will done up anyway. Thanks for the headsup though:)
