Hi Everyone! I knew he was coming early At 5:00a.m. last Monday, my water broke-very strange sensation if this has never happened to you. I woke up my DH, called the dr., and in an hour, we were on the way to the hospital to have the baby.
When I got settled in the room, the nurse hooked me up to a monitor, and I was having contractions that were about 5 minutes apart. i didn't even feel them at first even though they were registering. I sat in a rocking chair, and then I began to feel them (OUCH!!!) in my back. I had mixed feelings about getting an epidural, but once I felt those contractions, I asked for one, and within the hour, I had one. It took the pain away instantly, and I gained a new best friend (the dr. who gave me the epidural). The dr. checked me soon after checking in, and I was 100% effaced, 4 cm. dilated. Around 1:00, I was 8 cm.
Around 3:00p.m., I was 10 cm. dilated, so I began to push soon after. The dr.'s changed shifts, but I was lucky enough to have the same nurse-she was working a 12 hour shift that day, and she was wonderful! The pushing was strange because I couldn't feel much, and after a while, I began to get a bad pain in my back. I mentioned it to the dr. and nurse, and they said it was probably just my pelvis trying to stretch. My pushing was a bit compromised due to that back pain-it would get worse when I pushed. Around 6:30p.m., still no baby, and the dr. was starting to get concerned that the baby was not making very much progress, so we discussed using the vacuum, and he did about 3 times, but it didn't work. The baby would come down the canal and go right back up. So, around 6:45-we decided to do a C-Section-it was the safest way to go. the baby was stuck! My worst nightmare!!!
Now, during the c-section, I felt some pain, and it wasn't pretty. I wonder if it had something to do with that strange back pain I had felt (even though I had the epidural). I screamed out in agony and was given some happy gas along with other stuff to help. I guess it kind of helped, but I still felt it. well, anyway, at 8:00p.m. I delivered a healthy baby boy named Andrew Michael, 7 pd, 4 oz, 19 1/2 inches long with a very healthy set of lungs!!!
The first thing I asked the dr. was if I could have another baby, and he said yes, but highly recommends a C-Section again-I couldn't agree more!!! I never, ever want to go through that again!
So, I was discharged on Thursday, and the first day and night at home were torture, but each day and night is getting better as we get used to each other. I am still pretty sore, and I go to the dr. on MOnday to get the staples taken out. I also tore, but I don't think those stiches come out.
So, that's my story for you. I still may check in from time to time to see what everyone is up to. I now have to find a new mothers group here.
By the way, if anyone here has ever had a c-section, was it as painful as mine? Let me know!
Thanks for all of your support throughout my pregnancy!
love, Jen
