Weight loss while breastfeeding

For anyone who is/has breastfed their babies, did anyone experience no weight loss during breastfeeding and possibly some weight gain?? I know they say that breastfeeding actualy promotes weight loss but I seem to be stuck at my current week at almost seven weeks postpartum while exclusively breastfeeding. I have spoke with some women who swear the rest of their pregnancy weight remained until after they weaned their babies.

I think it can go either way and not everyone is the same. I was stuck at the same weight for 2 weeks so I signed up for WW's online even though I was only 5 weeks PP. I lost 4 lbs last week and I am not hungry at all. But I have come to realize how much overeating I was actually doing and how much trash I was eating, now I am making wiser choices b/c I am limited. I think I was thinking b/c I was BF'ing I could eat whatever I wanted and still lose but thats not the case.

I did not have trouble losing while breastfeeding (which is a good thing b/c I've breastfeed 14+ mos with my last two). I did find that with my last one I had to work a lot harder to lose weight. Every pregnancy is so different and we are so different individually.

Do not blame nursing for this...continue to nurse & bond with your baby...you'll be happy you did.

As Lori mentioned above (and I've found in my own experience) clean eating (no refined/simple carbohydrates) is the key to weight loss & weight maintenance.

Good luck & Congrats on your newest one!

I found that while nursing both my kids(now 9 months and 3.6 years), my body held onto the last few pounds. When dd#1 weaned herself at 9 months I rapidly lost about 5+ pounds putting me thinner than prepreggo. When dd#2 weaned at 6 months, I rapidly dropped 2 pounds putting me at right weight. I do believe everyone is different but I believe on some people, the body knows to hod onto fat while nursing. I am not a curvey person and am relatively thin so I believe my body knew to hod onto fat while nursing. I do agree with Mel, continue nursing, eat healthy and exercise and you will see your body return, in time.

Shopaholic, how come you only have "5" posts by your name? You and I both know you've left more than 5 posts---being the social bug that you are.

Hi babyd:
My daughter is almost 11 months and I'm still nursing. I have lost all the weight, but it was a struggle to lost the last 5 pounds. I have been working with a nutritionist, and it turns but I was eating more than I wanted to admit ;-)
Good luck!

Your really not very far into it (7 weeks)...with both of my babies, I didnt REALLY start loosing until around 6 months, but it is so diffrent for everyone. I read a study that said breastfeeding moms loose the weight slower than non bf'ingmoms, but loose more in the long run. Just try to enjoy theese early months, cause man do they fly by! And dont worry, youll loose the weight!
