RE: Welcome Dani
Welcome Danielle,
Read your posts & would like to suggest you do a little homework to learn more about nutrition & exercise - not that you won't get a lot of help here. I can recommend Deborah Waterhouse's books "Outsmarting the Female Fat Cell" & "Outsmarting the Midlife Fat Cell." The Fitness for Dummies book is a good reference for planning an exercise program but doesn't have much on diet. Nancy Clark's sports nutrition book is excellent. Your library might have these in their collection if you don't want to purchase them.
I also go through the fitness periodicals at my library on a monthly basis. I highly recommend "Health" and "Walking". Both give solid nutritional & fitness advice while always maintaining a commitment to long-term health. The advice in "Shape" & "Fitness" is solid but their use of vapor thin models is in conflict with the written content. Many of the men's fitness magazines have solid info but might not be appropriate for a beginner. Ditto w/ "Oxygen" & "Muscle & Fitness Hers".
My sister has been on an exercise sabatical & is in about the same spot you are. She's doing the weight training from the Cathe's Wedding Tape twice a week & finding it a challenge. She's only doing 3 20 minute walks this week because she was ill recently. She'll gradually ramp up the cardio. She's started & stopped fitness programs many times & I'm trying to rein her in now so she doesn't burn out. This is just to give you an idea for a beginning program.
Good Luck to you.
Debra
