WEIGHT LOSS CHECK-IN week of 1/14

amynicole

Cathlete
Hey all!

I've been doing really well so far. Last week my workouts were a 4 out of 5 (room for improvement) but my eating was a definate 5 out of 5. I'm actually learning to enjoy being hungry because I keep telling myself thats my body burning up the fat. I don't think I can do the once a month thing with the scale. Do you all mind if we make our own decision and either weight in once a week or once a month at our own discretion? I'm one of those people that when I work hard all week, I really want to see that number. If it goes down it makes me feel great, and if it does not it just makes me work harder.

O.K. now for my exciting news: I was 206 1/1, then last week, I was 203, I was shocked to find this morning that I broke the 200 barrier- I was 198 this morning!!! I lost 5 lbs this week, a total of 8 since the first. I could not believe it. I read somewhere that when you are trying to lose fat that you need to stay in your aerobic zone for at least 40 minutes and I've been doing just that. Sorry for the long post, but I am sooooo exited, I had to share that I broke 200 this morning :)

How is everyone else doing??

CONGRATS, on the 8# lost! That is a great accomplishment! I did very well this last week as well. I started out doing a lowcarb diet, but I didn't have much energy for anything, so I went back to moderate carbs and lean protein. Sought of like what BFL instructs, this is a perfect combonation for me. Keep up the good work! Hopefully sometime soon i'll be able to say the same as you.

Kitkat

Hi everyone!

Congratulations Amynicole!

This will be my first check-in. My goal is to lose 20-25 pounds. For this week (a six day week) I want to keep my calories between 1400-1600. For exercise I want to do a Cathe areobics tape in the am either IntervalMax or MIS 3 times and on the other three days in the am Bodymax or circuit max.
In the evenings I want to do sit-ups and also MIS at least 3 times a week in the evening on the days I do IntervalMax or MIS. This is going to be a big challange, but I am really going to try. Reading everyone's entries is really encouraging. Good Luck to everyone!

Well

This week was a dud. My knees became sore and I had to stay off them for a few days. I was only able to do 2 workouts out of 6. Eating was a 3, there were 3 birthday dinners this week. I think I am going to come up with a strategy when that happens again.
I am not going to dwell on last week I am going to concetrate on this one. I am going to do 6 cardio and 1 Total body workout.
I am going to follow my ww point system.

GREAT JOB AMYNICOLE!!!! My first goal is to get below 200. That must feel great!!! Keep up the good work.

Nikki

Thanks everyone :) Kitkat, I tried the high protein diet last fall and felt AWFUL I only did it for a week. I agree that my body needs carbs and proteins to feel good. I've been couting calories and staying around 1,200-1,300.

Kimstar, welcome!! That sounds like a challenging program. You will feel great if you make it through! If you have some weeks that you don't, just enjoy the work that you did do and don't be too hard on yourself. Stick with us and your weight will come off!

Nik, I hope your knees feel better soon. I have two birthday celebrations this week- both my son's, one with family and one party for him with his friends. I'm not quite sure how to handle it yet. It is tough when you have those challenges. I think that on the day of his party, I'll do 60 minute of cardio instead of my usual 40-45 and have one piece of pizza and a small piece of cake and be carful the rest of the day. I have to try my son's cake!! You WILL make it below 200! This group is great, it is wonderful to have the support of others. Be careful with your knee and take it slow.

Hi everyone and good job on another week of healthy eating and great workouts! As for my week, my workouts were a 4, however my eating lagged behind at a distant 2.5. I had dinner at a hockey game twice this week...how's that for crappy eating, lol??!! This week I plan on improving on that 2.5. I did go out to eat at a steakhouse tonight and got veggies as a side dish instead of fries and I didnt touch the basket of dinner rolls at all...major accomplishment for me since I LOVE bread. So although my 2.5 is nothing to write home about, it very well could've been a 1.5...gotta find the good in something so as not to bum yourself out. Anyway, keep up the good work everyone! Anyone else doing rotations??

Stacy

Hi AmyNicole,

Could you post what your workouts have been. I am going to try to have a perfect week and I would like to see if I am heading in the right direction.

Thanks
Nikki

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a great weekend!

CONGRATULATIONS to AmyNicole! I was so happy to read your good news. Keep up the good work.

I don't have much to report since I kinda jumped the gun and reported my one pound weight loss on Thursday. I usually weigh on Wednesday mornings (except during PMS when I don't get near a scale). I had a great week as far as exercise is concerned. My eating would probably be at level 3.5 or 4. I did fairly well with drinking water, however, I still need to drink much more water. I remember years ago when I lost around 15 to 20 lbs, I was really drinking a huge amount of water. So, I know that water makes a big difference. I was very happy about my one pound loss. My goal is one pound per week. In fact, 1/2 lb. would also make me happy.

I will post my exercise for the week in the regular check-in.

I hope everybody has a successful week.

Lisa

Amynichole, 8 pounds! Great work! Keep it up.

My week was a 5 on eating and probably a 4 to 4.5 on workouts. Didn't feel very energetic and didn't workout at all on Saturday. I did do Interval Max this week and all I can say is...WOW!

Once I get going with the eating part I really don't have too many problems because I love so many different things. I love fruits and vegetables and mostly just like chicken and fish. I do love a good hamburger every now and then but even then it is usually deer meat. My husband is a hunter and a fisherman and we almost always have deer meat and fresh fish.

I did wear some pants that I bought last year for when I lost all my weight and I couldn't even pull them all the way up then. I wore them for the first time Friday. Yeaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

I am still waiting to weigh but I really want to know!! I won't have to wait too much longer!!! :)

Everone have a great week and keep up the great work you are doing! The reward is worth all the steamed vegetables and low-cal stuff! Just keep your goal in mind and you will make it! To keep me inspired I sometimes look at pictures of me when I had more weight on me and boy if that doesn't make me lose my appetite nothing will!!

Hi Kimstarr--
I noticed your post and wanted to say congratulations on making the decision to check in and lose weight. After reading your plan of action, I'm a little concerned that you might be overdoing it. I am certainly not qualified to tell you what would or would not be appropriate, and I don't know what your usual workout schedule is, or how advanced of an exerciser you are. So, please ignore me if you want to. It just seems that with doing such intense cardio and circuit work each day, in addition to doing intense weight training on the same day, that your body might not reap the benefits that it could if you took it a little more slowly and with less intensity. Also, since you are cutting your calories and adding these intese workouts, will you have enough energy to complete them? My advice (take it or leave it, I'm just trying to be helpful, not a nag!) would be to post at the Ask Cathe forum--she is now back from her trip.
Good luck to you!
Wendy

Hi Nikki,

Since Jan 1 I have been doing the following:

2 FIRM all weight tapes a week- I've done these in the evening
FIRM 5 days abs 4-5 days a week
3 mornings Cathe step tapes, sometimes mixing together 2 to make sure my heart rate stays in the target range for 45-60 minutes (this does not include warmup/cooldown)
2 to 3 mornings I've been using my treadmill or excercie bike or a combination of both for 45-60 minutes in the target heart range.(again does not include warmup/cooldown) I'm really lucky that my husband is 100% supportive of my excercise habit and has helped me to build our little home gym letting my devote a room to our bike/treadmill/weights etc. I do use my tapes in the living room so I have room to use my step.

So basicly I'm working out 5-6 mornings a week getting my cardio in the morning. I spend about 60-75 minutes working out in the am. It sounds like a lot but I just get up a little earlier. Two nights a week I spend about 45 minutes doing a firm all weight tape.

I know its a lot but I want to improve my body so badly and I'm really determined.

With your knees, I'd take it easy and be really careful to listen to your body. How are your new shoes working out?

I'm late

And thought about not posting at all considering the awful week I had. My first workout week was great but my eating left alot to be desired. Last week my eating continued to be not very good and I didn't fit in a single workout. Each evening I just went home after work and did nothing. The only good thing is that I am remembering my multi-vitamin more often and drinking more water. I am also starting to crave water.

Congratulations on breaking 200 lbs Amynicole. I am very happy for you and really want to do the same. So I will try ...again. I don't want the spring to roll around and catch me having made no progress.

RE: I'm late

Please don't be discouraged Crystal. Losing weight is all about taking baby steps and taking one day at a time. It's great that you are drinking more (and craving) water and that you are remembering your multivitamin. Focus on the positive!!!! Don't think about what you haven't done and what is past, just think about how you can make one small change at a time to reach your goal.

Remember this should be a "life changing" experience. You should be changing your eating habits, FOR LIFE, in more ways than one. Don't think about when I lose weight I can then eat anything that I want...think about changing bad habits so when you do lose weight you keep it off permanently.

As far as exercise, when you feel like doing nothing, just do something--anything---just move it and lose it!!! Even if it is just 10 minutes!!!!!!

Believe me, it gets better!! :)

RE: I'm late

My workout rotation for this month has been:

MegaStep Blast
MIS
StepHeat
day off
CircuitMax
MIS
PowerMax
day off

I've had to modify or omit a day here and there b/c of my work schedule but I've been sticking fairly close to this "ease back into it" rotation, my goal being a bit more cardio than strength.
Next month I'll be doing the CTX series.

Toodles,

Stacy

RE: I'm late

Kelly,
Thanks for the encouraging words. (even though they were for Crystal). I have had a good week working out, but had a 2.5 for eating. I have been discouraged with myself and your letter helps. I tried the all step portion of CTX. I will probably still be doing it in Feb. It will take me that long to get the steps! Just kidding. It is trickier than any videos I've done in the past. (the only Cathe videos I've done are the PS series.)

Hope everyone has a good week!

Donna

RE: I'm late

Hi Crystal,
Don't feel bad about not meeting your goal for the week. I should be on the treadmill running instead of typing this. At least that was my plan. My husband and I keep getting into arguments over everything. (We normally do not fight much at all). Anyway, after we argue my day is pretty much shot. I should use my frustration and do a kickbox video, huh? But for some reason, I just want to do nothing. And hey, that's okay, right?

Anyway, my point is that we shouldn't be terribly disappointed in ourselves when our plans don't go perfectly. Sounds like you have a very hard job that takes alot out of you. I know how that goes too. Although lately, I have been lucky and have been having good days at the office.

Anyway, don't kick yourself for the way your week went. Just try to get back on track as soon as possible. Drinking more water is definitely a big plus for your health. That is an accomplishment by itself. A bad week is just that- a bad week.
Next week will be much BETTER!!!!

Lisa

I've been reading these threads with great interest...

....because I think what you are doing is great!! You are taking charge, and you've come to the best place for support.

I don't have a large amount of weight to lose, but I ALWAYS struggle. It never stops even after you lose weight. I have been paying attention to stopping when I get full now, and this is working out well. I had an eating disorder when I was a kid ( anorexia) and I don't think I fully got over it, although it's much better now.

You know what I think is a neat concept....now don't snicker....the Richard Simmons Food Mover. If you've seen those infomercials you'll know what I'm talking about. It basically teaches portion control, and eating real food without a lot of limits as far as selection. I know lots of people who have used his videos as a beginner tool for workouts, also. Then, of course, we advance to CATHE tapes!!! But you have to start somewhere if you're just beginning.

Anyway, I support you on your path to good health and good habits.

RE: I've been reading these threads with great interest...

Thanks for the support Honeybunch!

I exercised with Richard Simmons many years ago and it was very fun. The Sweatin' to the Oldies was a blast and you really do sweat. It can be a bit challenging to watch him have an interview or talk with someone because he is just a little different. I think he has helped a lot of people and that's what counts!!

Kelly

Thanks for the Encouragement

I really needed the encouraging words and they really helped. I will not give up and I reminded myself that I have complete control over what I eat and whether I exercise.

After a whole year I am still fighting the "all or nothing, lose weight quick" mentality instead of making each day count, even though I realize that attitude has gotten me nowhere. Well, that's why I'm here for a wake up call every now and then :).

Last night, I resisted the urge to go home, watch a movie and go to bed. I managed to do Chrisi Taylor's Stepping Zone. Well, the warm-up, 26 minutes of cardio, cool-down and abs. I ran out of steam because of aching arches and a nagging ache in my lower back which comes with all the extra weight and starts up when I neglect to exercise regularly. But it felt good to do something.
See ya next check-in.

RE: Thanks for the Encouragement

Crystal, good job last night! I know how frustrating it is when we have a large amount to lose. I have also had the all or nothing mentality in the past. Last night what did I do- ate chinese food and too much of it and felt really gross and disgusting. The old me would have said, ok, I blew it for the week, might as well go on an all out binge. But I did my usual drag myself out of bed and started the day with Cathe step heat and felt better. It is important to remember that we all have bad day, or weeks but it is the BIG picture that matters. Instead of letting yesterday turn into an all out binge, I got back on track today. Remember, we are here for you. Post anytime you get frustrated or need a little help. And remember, we will be here cheering for you when you suceed, and you WILL succeed :)

Stacy, for easing into it, you are doing great- keep it up :)
