Weight Lifting Question...

Well, I went and had my body fat checked and it was very high. On a postive note, I am no longer over weight. However, I am over fat. So, the trainer at the gym suggested that I change things around alittle. He suggested instead of doing 5 cardio and 3 weight lifting to switch to 5 weightlifting and three cardio.
So, I thought I might do something like this....

Week One
Monday...LL
Tuesday...PS CST and 45 min. cardio
Wed....Off
Thurs...PS BBA and 45 min. cardio
Friday...PS Legs and abs
Sat... PS CST and 45 min. cardio
Sun...Stretch

Week Two
Monday...PS BBA and 45 min. cardio
Tuesday...LL
Wednesday...Off
Thursday...PS Legs and Abs
Friday...PS CST and 45 minutes cardio
Saturday...LL
Sun...Stretch

Week Three
Monday...PS BBA and 45 min. cardio
Tuesday...LL
Wed....Off
Thurs...PS CST and 45 min. cardio
Friday...PS Legs and abs
Sat... PS BBA and 45 min. cardio
Sun...Stretch

Week Four
Monday...PS CST and 45 min. cardio
Tuesday...PS Legs and Abs
Wednesday...Off
Thursday...LL
Friday...PS BBA and 45 minutes cardio
Saturday...PS Legs and abs
Sun...Stretch

I figure that this way I would alternate one week with three upper body workouts and two lower body workout and then the next week with two upper body workout and three lower body workouts.
How I alternated it makes it to where each tape gets one week where the tape is done twice in that week. That way, PS CST and PS BBA get worked equally. Basically, the numbers come up as 5 LL; 5 PS CST; 5 PS BBA and 5 PS Legs and abs for a total of 10 upper body workouts and 10 lower body workouts with 12 cardio workouts.
Does this seem like too much to any of you? Looking at it, I think it does, but I can't see any other way to get in 5 weights and three cardios.
Any suggestions, criticisms, etc. is greatly appreciated. I need HONEST opinions here!!!!

God Bless,
Cynthia

My opinion is not worth much, but for what it's worth, you could do heavy days and light days with your weights. Lifting heavy all the time may be too much.

A thought may be to do the PS series mixed in with the weight work from the CTX tapes. That would give you high reps with light weights alternated with the heavy weights of the PS series.

What sort of weight routines did your trainer suggest?

I'd get burned out quick if I did the PS series twice a week! But that's just me.

Hello Honeybunch...

Let me start by telling you that I will never forget your name because YOU are the one who posted all those yummy cake recipes and then FORCED me to buy the book and then KICKED me in the butt to make them and then TWISTED my arm to eat them. Thanks alot!! :):):) (You know I am just joking!!!)

Anyway, the pt actually recommended upper body 3x a week for the first week with 2 lower body workouts and then rotate them. I belong to their gym, but I don't go to often because time is a huge issue for me, so I would rather workout at home. ( I workout generally at 5:00 a.m. because that is pretty much the only alone time I have before the zoo wakes up, the animals... I mean kids...have to be fed, and the day starts. Anyway, he said that because my body fat is too high, even though my weight is okay, that I need to build muscle and that 3x per week wasn't going to cut it. My workouts generally consisted of 5 cardio, 1 heavy upper body day, 1 heavy lower body day, and one total body day which I generally went lighter. To be honest with you, while I did see muscle definition, I didn't see major cuts, if you know what I mean. I have pretty much been working out like this for about a year, so it probably is time to shake things up a little bit. I was thinking of doing this rotation for 8 weeks and seeing what happened. While most people seem to think that I might get bored with this rotation, to be honest with you boredom is never really an issue for me. Mostly because I think I am so incredibly focused on what I am doing that I could really care less that I saw the same instructor, listened to the same music, or performed the same routine several times in a row.
Well, this is probably more info than you were looking for. I look forward to your comments...

I'd like to see Trevor's opinion interjected in here. What do you think, guy?

Hi Ladies!! :)
That's one helluva week there! I personally don't have enough time to workout like that.
I lift 3 times a week....alternating upper and lower body along with cardio afterwards. This way, one week you get 2 upper body workouts and the next week you get 2 lower body workouts. My best advice to you for definition that is working for me is to use dumbbells whenever possible. They incorporate more muscles such as stabilizers because they force you to balance the weights. I do use machines for my legs. Also, I have read that the negative motion of the lift is real important so I go real slow on the negative. If I do a two count on the positive motion, I will do a 4 count on the negative.
One other thing I did to build more muscle was cut cardio from 45 mins. 4 or more times a week to 35 mins. 3 times a week. You can actually burn muscle and defeat the purpose of lifting by doing too much cardio. My metabolism is fast and I struggle to keep my weight at 185 so 3 days is perfect for me.
Lastly, I try to shake it up every so often. Anybody who knows me from this site knows I like to try different things. Try different grips, angles with the various lifts. Change your order of lifts. Shake up the cardio. Remember to try to always challenge yourself also. Emphasize quality over quantity. Make every single rep count.
I can give you my complete routine for a week if you like.
If I can help any further let me know. :) :-jumpy
gotta run...baby brandon is crying.

Hi, I was wondering if you strictly use Cathe tapes or do you do other activities, and what Cathe tapes do you own? I agree that alternating some with the CTX series possibly may be a good idea. Anyway, I'm anxious to hear what tapes you have, trying to devise rotations for someone else gets me motivated for my own workouts!!

I like to work with dumbbells, too. Sometimes I use the Men's Health Dumbbell Workout book, which give you lots of exercises for different body parts and you can make up your own routines. Also, there are lots of books out there with routines in them. I know that if I do too much cardio my weight training suffers because I've used up all my energy on cardio. Some days doing just weights and no cardio is the way to go for me, like today I'll be doing MIS and no cardio.

Everyone has their little tricks!;-)
