Weider SpaceSaver 40 lb KettleBell

This looks pretty wicked -- KB users, can you give me thoughts on what you think about this? I've been really interested in KBs and this may be the right way for me to go...

Wow! Just like the Bowflex SelectTech dumbbellls! It makes sense and it's definitely a space saver!

Jo :D

It looks very cool and would be well worth the money considering the cost of kettlebells! The thing that concerns me is how easy it is to make the weight adjustments.

There was a thread on the CrossFit boards a little while back about various brands of adjustable weight kettlebells, I think this one looked at, but I'm not 100% certain.

Basically, the majority of opinions were that these were fine for swings, but probably not for the majority of other KB moves, like the snatch.

For $200, you can get a pretty nice set of individual kettlebells (at least 3 if you shop around)...I'd put the money into that.

I'm also wary of swinging around something that has removable parts.

Ouch!

Yes, I agree. Fine for swings but not so good for any move where it is in rack position or resting against your wrist. Also not good for those push-ups where you have one hand on the kettlebell and the other on the mat.

I wear tennis wrist bands and even with that, it took some time to get used to having it pressing on my bony wrists. At least kettlebells are smooth (and mine are vinyl-coated, too!).

I'm not really sure how this would feel compared to a real kettlebell. I'm thinking it terms of dynamics because when you look at a real kettlebell the bell curves to a smaller base. This one doesn't curve. I'm not sure how that would work when doing cleans and other moves besides the swing.

I just did a quick search at Muscle Driver, and you can get an 8kg, 12kg, and 16kg kettlebell set for $155 delivered. IMO, that would be a better investment and a range of weights to keep you busy for a while. :)

One more thing...

When I'm doing a kettlebell workout (mostly Art of Strength), I often switch kettlebell weights, depending on the exercise. I wouldn't want to have to stop and adjust my kettlebell every time I wanted to go up or down in weight.

I think Gayle's suggestion is a good one. Also, Overstock.com sometimes offers free shipping, so I've gotten a few from there at a good price and without paying for shipping (which can be very high because of the weight).

i will agree with another poster, good for swings but to doing cleans and presses it might not work so well. i can see this being more in the way then anything. if you have play it again sports nearby they sell them, even used. sporting goods stores have the go fit ones and they are more reasonable. i haven't searched online myself, i am looking for some more myself. i constantly check craigslist as well.
