Wegmans

Hi all - Just wondering if any of you in New Jersey or Pennsylvania have ever been to Wegmans Super Store (Grocery). I'm from Rochester, NY where Wegmans originated and I know that they have opened several stores in NJ and PA. Just wondered what you think of the store. I think it is the best supermarket in the country. We have the largest one here in one of our suburbs and I always take out of town guests to shop there. They are always overwhelmed. In fact, Cher was in Rochester over the summer and visited the store. She called for a manager and asked him to please open one in Malibu. She was blown away by it. Of course, people in the store were just as blown away to see her there.

Anyway, just curious to hear what you think of the store.

We have a Wegmans in Corning, NY and I remember its grand opening in 1986! I like Wegmans but have to admit I do most of my grocery shopping now at the Walmart supercenter that was recently built!

Hi Mar, I go to the one in Bridgewater, NJ. I love the store. They have the best veggies and fruit. I love their salad dressing too. It is really big.

I shopped at the Mt. Hope Wegmans in Rochester (one of the originals!) when my husband was in grad school at U of R. When we were moving, I actually got teary eyed in the checkout line when I realized Wegmans wasn't going to be a regular thing for me anymore. My inlaws still live there, so we stock up on cheese bread etc. when we visit. I live 60 miles north of NYC now, and our stores are lousy. Nothing holds a candle to Wegmans.

Hi Valerie - Funny you should mention the Mt. Hope Store. REcently after much controversy, that store closed. It was a big blow to the people in that area. That was a much smaller version of the BIG Wegmans, but it sure served a purpose in that area. They were loosing to much money - Oh Well. Nice to hear from someone who has been in Rochester.

I live in Buffalo, and our 2 major supermarkets are Wegmans and Tops (which you probably know, being so close). I shop at both, because one is close to my house, and the other is on my way home from work. I do love Wegmans. In fact, my sister met her husband there when they worked at the Alberta Dr. store.

Just thought I'd say hi, from Buffalo (Lancaster, actually). I usually shop at the one on Walden Ave. (if you know where that is).

Hey I was born in Buffalo and my father still lives in Lackawanna!
My aunts live in Cheektowaga. Factor in that my inlaws are in Rochester and we're in WNY a few times a yr.

That is too bad about the Mt. Hope store. We did our major shopping at the Henrietta one, but went to Mt. Hope for quick stuff. I used to work at Strong, so it was a quick stop on my way home to our Elmwood Ave. apt.
