Cathlete
Morning all!

Guess what? I shoveled!!! Oh boy! Isn't that exciting???? Ugh. I'm sick of shoveling. Have I mentioned that? Maybe once or twice?

Anyway, today is a run, but I'll do it later this afternoon.

Tneah - WTG on good news from trainer guy! Hard candies with Splenda sound absolutely delicious! (I'm trying to be supportive here:p)

I'm off to Ikea today and to run a few errands. Sophie needs a new bookcase for her room because the small one she has is absolutely overflowing with books. What's everyone else up to?

Good Day All!:)

I found our Michele playing over in the OD, so of course I told her we missed her over here.;)

Sorry bout the snow Shelley, I wish I had 1/4 of the snow you all are getting, I am such a snow bunny, I still go outside with George and eat the freshly fallen snow--no, not the yellow snow.}( It is a pain, and I will not drive in it, but its sooo pretty. But come Feb. I suppose its worn out its welcome, you burned 460 calories thought right?:p
I love IKEA!! Lucky duck, we don't have one here in Vegas, its the only store we do not have here....but its a goodie.:) Have fun, its nice to hear Sophie is a reader, I was too at her age.

Yeah, don't the Splenda candies sound good?;( Well, whatever gets me through the day without wanting to eat an entire bag of peanut M&M's.

We are up early, going to pack it up and head out to San Diego (Georgie too) this morning. I am so excited to see our boat, I get the best sleep on the boat and love the water so much. Cannot wait.Except I have to drink a gallon of the wet stuff everyday, and DH does not like to stop for potty breaks...whatever, 6 hours without tinkling? HA!

Our internet connection however is iffy on the boat, we don't have our internet cable thing yet, so if all the planets are aligned and smiling upon me, I will be able to log on this next week and check in with all of you! It might be sporadic, but I need your support and well, I just love you guys!:)

So hello to all that follow today, have a fabulous weekend, rest, relax, workout, enjoy good for your body food, and I will talk at ya tomorrow hopefully.:7

Hi everyone. Still sick of the crud. Really, it's probably just allergies that have gone wrong, so I don't worry too much. Also, since it's been that TOM (hopefully done today or tomorrow) I imagine it flared up with the run-down feeling I get with Aunt Flow.

Today I have a backache and I am not even sure what to blame it on. Maybe it's DOMS from Thursday's workout? It didn't seem like that tough of a workout. I definitely still have DOMS with my biceps and triceps, so I guess I could on my back.

OK, why can't my kids eat breakfast without drama? For Pete's sake there's always fussing and bowls clattering to the floor, etc.

I'm not sure yet what today's workout will be--perhaps some cardio, but my knees have been complaining a lot, so I'm not sure. I could just take a walk, but that's so boring (and it's pretty cold out there).

Shelley, ouch, my back hurts even more thinking about all that shoveling. I think we're supposed to get some snow tomorrow--at least if it snows on a Sunday I can get DH to do the shoveling. }(

Leanne, big {{{HUGS}}}. I dread the day I lose my mom; we are very close. My stepfather died in 2005 (just a couple months after Ewan was born) and I couldn't even go to the funeral because we were in England and Ewan didn't have his passport yet (long story involving a waiting list at the embassy and he was too little to leave behind). He was like my own father because they married when I was 2 and I called him Daddy Bob. In his case he'd had cancer for a while. Ewan's first name is actually Robert after Daddy Bob. I know that feeling of thinking of a loved one at the anniversary of his death, since I always think of Daddy Bob at that time, too. Actually, I usually start thinking of it on Ewan's birthday but I'm so glad he knew we used his name before he died.

Robin, congrats on the weight loss. I didn't even bother weighing in yesterday, since it's TTOM.

Deb, glad to see you back, though it looks like you weren't around for long.

Tneah, congrats on the good report from your trainer!

Emily, congrats to you on your loss. I'm getting envious of all these losses. Of course, it's my own fault I'm still a porker. :p Oh, and I love your Mac website! Did you have a link to that before and I just missed it? I like how consistent it is with each page. Mine is rather random with different styles on the pages (but I am rather random myself).

Shannon, I'm pretty bummed that my knees not only don't tolerate step but are having trouble even tolerating Michelle Dozois floor aerobics. Give me a break, it's not even Cathe or Amy! Of course, since I gave up shopping for Lent I can't go buy my own stationary bike, but maybe I can still hint to the hubby that he should buy me one....

OK, think I'm all caught up--it was busy on here last night!

Hi, all you Melters!

Shelley - I'm so glad you had fun with BM2! Keeping the weights light was a very good idea. It's supposed to be 60 F here today... you can send that snow down here, so it'll all melt away. Will that help? Have fun shopping!

Tneah - that's great news from Mr. Trainer! You just keep on hanging in there. How in the heck are you going to work out on a boat? You'll be gone for a week?

Lanie - I'm glad it's just allergies and not some other crud. Here's a hint: a stationary bike is not shopping for pleasure. It's necessary for your health. I think you can sneak around it that way. }( Do you have access to a pool? That would probably be good for your knees.

Let's see. I think I'll make today a vegan day. I'm trying to do that a couple of times a week. For some reason, even though I really don't want to go vegan, a little, pesky part of my brain keeps telling me I should. So far, I'm appeasing it this way. :p

I'm also going to try some cardio on the elliptical. My calf is doing very well. I measured it last night, and it's the same size as my other one again - no swelling! Yay!

I don't have much planned, except cleaning and that sort of thing. I should have plenty of time to get outside, since it's supposed to be such a beautiful day.

Hi to everyone else! I'll BBL.

Happy Saturday, everyone!!

I have to jump in the shower so we can head out to Las Vegas in a little bit, but just wanted to check in with everyone. I'm not going to be able to do a workout today since I wanted to try to get some extra sleep, so I'm feeling a little stressed about how much I might gain over the weekend. Ah, well! We get back early enough on Monday (about 2:00) that I should be able to work out then, even though I'll also have to go grocery shopping.

Hope you all have a relaxing, wonderful weekend!!! I'll "see" you all Monday!!

Tneah -- Sending you big {{{HUGS}}}! I'm so sorry that you never really had a chance to know your mom better!! How funny that we'll be crossing paths this weekend. Yes, when you're hear this summer, we'll definitely have to finally meet up in person! And thanks for the wonderful tips about seeing the animals and about the food places! We were thinking of getting Chinese, so Red sounds like a perfect place to eat! Are you feeling better this morning about the diet? Hang in there, girl, since you're doing so awesome!! I hope that that internet connection on the boat is working so that you can stay in touch. Otherwise, we'd miss you!!

Shelley -- Sending you big {{{HUGS}}}, too! I'm so sorry to hear about your mom! That must have been so hard to have gone through so much in such a short period of time! I'm so sorry!! On a more positive note, that is so awesome that you made it through BM2 in its entirety!! I've only been able to do that a couple of times!

Lainie -- I remember that you had told me how hard it was to lose your stepdad! I'm so sorry that it was such a rough time for you. And how awful that you're still sick today! Could you maybe ask for a stationary bike as a Valentine's Day present? That could be good!

Hi Melter's!!

Tneah, your post made me smile :+

I'm so sorry I haven't been around lately. I promise I haven’t forgotten about you, its just that things have exploded around me and I haven't had much time for the forums, and really no time for personals.

After things calmed down for my sister my brother landed in the hospital. He was in pretty bad shape -- he still is -- although he's out of the hospital now. He's mentally ill and he decided he no longer needed to take his medication  ;( . He's been admitted to a group home with 24 hour supervision and I hope they’ll keep him for a good long while.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, my niece was hit by a car. She was in critical condition and spent 2 days in the SICU. She had surgery to repair several fractures, then was transferred to a rehab facility where she’ll be undergoing therapy. The doctors have prepared us for a very long road to recovery, and it will be at least 3 months before she’ll be able to bear weight on her legs. Despite the severity of her injuries, she’s actually doing quite well.

So, once again I leave you with another self-absorbed post. I’m way out of the loop here and I haven’t even had time to lurk, so I may need someone to give a brief melter’s synopsis.

Well, I’m off to visit my niece. I have a lot of family coming in to town to visit her today and I need to make some sort of dinner arrangements for everyone. I’ll try to be better about checking in, but honestly, my diet and exercise habits are just awful right now! I mean, if this situation doesn't scream COMFORT FOODS, what does!? :p

Hi melters. I tried to get here earlier, but DH had to pay some pesky bills on the computer.

tneah and Leanne, have fun in each other's cities! Don't forget to wave as you pass on the highway.

Shelley, we have about 4 inches of pretty snow here. I can say that because DH does the shoveling. DD and I were planning on going to a ladies church function this afternoon, but the snow put the kibosh on that plan. I'm baking bread instead.

Michele, welcome back to Melterville. {{HUGS}} to your niece and especially to you for all you are doing for her. Any news on your brother? Good only, I hope.

Lainie, sorry to hear about your aches and pains. You know, I've done much better at melting since I've been only lifting and eating better. I think I may cut down on my cardio/week, once my knee is better. Maybe that would work for you and your wonky knees.

Shannon, I was going to make chicken for dinner, but couldn't find any in the freezer, so it's going to be a spaghetti night. That makes three days this week that were vegetarian. Not planned either, but good for us, huh?

Special {{{HUGS}}} to all of you who have lost a parent. My own dad died over 10 years ago of pancreatic cancer. It wasn't pretty. My FIL was in a nursing home with Alzheimer's for a long time before he died. Again, not fun. But death is part of life, isn't it? And because we miss them, we know how special they were too us.

I was up most of the night with a coughing baby and a coughing DH. I'm going to spend the rest of the day on the couch or the bed, napping. I sure hope tonight is better for us all. A night on a boat sounds heavenly.

Good evening, all you magnificent Melters!

Leanne - please don't stress about this weekend. Everybody needs a little break once in a while, so just kick back and enjoy. And as Robin, Lanie and I can attest, the old body doesn't instantly turn into a tub of lard if you miss some workouts. Right, gals??? :7

Cuz - I'm so glad you stopped by and let us know what's happening. I'm very glad your DB is in a supervised home. That must give you some peace of mind. I guess your niece is in a wheelchair for now? How is she managing? Take care, and stop by again when you get a chance.

Robin - I'm glad you're enjoying those vegetarian dinners. :9 Can I have a few inches of your snow? You know, I was thinking the same thing about cardio! *GASP* Me!!! You know, I work all the other muscles twice a week, so why not the heart? No, no, I just can't do it.

So, I took the dog for a nice walk, out in the open pastures to enjoy the sun. We were gone about an hour. My calf started aching, and when I got back and measured it, sure enough the swelling was back. Stupid thing. I ellipticized anyhow, to Imax 2, and had a wonderful workout. It actually felt better on Elli than it did walking.

I also shoveled manure. Thankfully there's not as much of it as there is snow up north. And then I washed windows, inside and out. Okay, I'm off to wash dishes now. My counters are stacked high with them.

Evening Melters!

Shannon - I'm glad you got to use the elliptical and that your calf behaved itself.

Robin - sorry to hear that Greyor kept you up all night. You can keep your snow ;-) Enjoy your day of napping and your fresh bread.

Tneah - have fun in San Diego! How funny that you and Leanne will be passing on the highway!

Lainie - I only have one child and we have more than enough drama. I can't imagine that doubled. Does your DH work every Saturday?

Michele - so good to see you! I'm sorry for all the troubles in your family lately. I'm glad your brother's situation seems to have evened out, and I'm sending healing vibes to your niece and {{{hugs}}} to you! I miss ya!

Leanne - you'll be fine without working out for a few days! Trust me. I took a rest week in January and didn't even really clean up my eating, and suffered no ill effects.

Well, I just got done running EIGHT miles. Yes you read that right. Eight. And now I remember why I don't run eight miles very often. My hips are screaming at me. Oh well... I'll make myself feel better by thinking about the 800 calories I just burned:p

And my shopping trip was a bust. I got ONE thing at Ikea out of my list. Grrrrrrrrrrr...

Howdy, Melters -

I decided to check in early this morning. I hope everyone has a nice day planned and that you're all able to relax before the work week starts again.

Shelley - EIGHT miles??? That's impressive! I'm really sorry your hip is hurting though. How is it now that you got some sleep? I guess there won't be any marathons in the near future, huh? Take it easy.

I don't know if I'll be back later today, so here's what I have lined out:

I guess I'd better clean house. There's almost more dog hair on the floor than on the dog. :p Dang. The birds think it's spring. I don't know what sort of bird it is out there, but it drives me nuts, and it comes back every single spring. I really hate that bird. Forgive me, Robin. But it's not a pretty sound at all.

I measured this morning. I lost a teensy bit in my hips, but I really don't think I can count it because I fluctuate so much there. Oh well. It's nice to see, anyhow.

I'm supposed to do a total body weight workout today. I guess I'll just stick to floor exercises for my legs though. Blah. Not sure what routine I'll use for upper body weights. I just did PUB the other day, but I'm kind of in the mood for it again.

Have a great day, everyone. See you tomorrow, probably.

Greetings from sunny San Diego!:7

My computer is working right now-who knows what it will be doing later, so thought I would take this chance to check in and say howdy!:) Its soo pretty here, when we arrived yesterday it was in the upper 70's. Wow.

Shelley, great job, 8 miles is a long ways to run, I am worried about your hips, what sort of pain do you have? Hip flexor type, in the front? Do you sorta limp after hard exercise? Be careful kay? Just concerned, cause you know what my background is with the whole hip thing!:)

Robin, sleeping on the boat is like being rocked to sleep in a way, I am still a little "off" though, you have to get your sea legs happening the for the first few days. Maybe I will send some pics of the boat?:) Hope the knee is behaving itself. And get-well vibes to your little one and your DH. I swear this nasty stuff is everywhere-still!x(

Lainie, Sorry sweetie, boy, between knees, hips, calves and the rest, you would never think we really are a bunch of super fit gals would you?:p Take care of your "creakers", try drinking that joint juice, you can get it at Costco. I love it. And who knows, it might help!

Shannon,Georgie blows a coat 4 times a year, black chunks of hair are always littering the carpet...he is so big I cannot groom him myself though. Oh, and our boat is docked in front of a hotel that has its own gym-actually not a bad little gym. They even offer classes, so that is where I work out when I am down in San Diego. I also like to walk outside since its by the water. Yeah with the hip measurement, although you don't appear to be too "hippy" to begin with. Funny about the bird, we actually have a neighbor in Vegas that has a rooster that likes to wake us up every morning! Its the strangest thing.

Michele, hey girl! Glad you made it over, just pop in and say hi once in awhile. Sounds like you are really going through some tough times, and my heart goes out to you and your family. Hang in there, and yes, comfort food always helps-just not too much, cause remember, you hate cardio.

:7

Okay, today is cardio only, and I need to cook up a bunch of chicken breasts and stuff...If my computer is acting nice I will be back later! :7 Hi to all that follow.

Oh joy and happiness, my computer works again!:)

Popping in to say, I think I am an itread convert. Boy, that Grace knows how to work you out, the time flies by and you really push yourself. I never do these at home, because I like to play around with Cathe workouts for cardio, but here in San Diego, those itreads are perfection.
:7

Hi to tneah on the boat. I'd love to see a picture. My SIL and her ex used to have a sailboat on the Chesapeake. We loved weekends when we were invited to sail with them. As Jimmy says, "I wish I were sailing again."

70 sounds great. It's in the 30s here and very windy. The snow is blowing past the windows. Which raises the question. Where, exactly, does the wind STOP? I mean, if it is blowing in north central PA, but not in Ohio, where did it start? And if it isn't blowing in NJ, where did it stop? Silly, huh? And if the snow is blowing here, where does it all end up?

Busy day again. After church we went to the mall (no, I can't shop for Lent but this was my husband's shopping). Now I've got Ewan down for a nap and I'm getting ready to do my workout. Just need to stick my hair up and put on my Rykas. I'm going to try Petra Kolber's Step Moves, New Grooves. It's supposed to be low impact so I'm going to try it on my MatStep. Surely that won't kill my knees (though they are a bit creaky today). At least I'll be back at PT tomorrow for a nice massage and electric stimulation so that will help.

This week I'm going to start a new rotation alternating Amy Bento's Slo-Mo workouts with the GS workouts--only upper body for now, though, since the PT doesn't want me doing anything but his exercises for lower body right now.

I'll BBL for personals--do have a lot to say to everyone but need to get my butt in gear first.

I did part of the new workout, but had trouble learning new stuff while doing it in my dining room with my little laptop. So I switched over to Amy Bento's ASCII (LOVE IT) and did a premix of the first 3 combos. Now I'm back for personals.

Robin, maybe the wind blows back up into the atmosphere and pushes clouds around or something. Oh nevermind, I had terrible trouble with meteorology in school. I was an English major for a reason.

Tneah, yeah, I still catch myself saying to people "I work out a lot, believe it or not" as I'm creaking through physical therapy or something. I guess I can still be fit with my iffy joints.

Shannon, do you have to ice your calf or something when it swells up? My PT told me to do that but I rarely take the time to stop and sit around with ice on my knee.

Shelley, my DH doesn't work every Saturday, just once in a while when there's a deadline or something. He's an accountant. He did work a little yesterday, but just took his laptop over to the library for a little quiet to get some work done. He tends to work a little late during the week but weekend work is actually fairly rare most of the year.

Michelle, big {{{HUGS}}}--what a rough time with your family! I hope everything turns up soon.

Leanne, DH is so NOT into Valentine's Day so I never ask for anything. I'm still hinting for a bike, though.

OK, gotta go get Ewan up from his nap.
