water testing

just wondering

did anyone get their water tested when they found out they were pregnant? we have a well, but one book i read said we should have it tested every year, but not what for. any ideas?

WE had our water tested when we were pg with our first baby. We also have well water. It tested positive for nitrates, which is actually a neurotoxin (a poison to the nervous system). It's really important that pg women & kids be limited to their exposure to this. We installed a very expensive ($1200 in early 90s) for a reverse osmosis system. We love it & feel as if it's worth it. We have "bottled" water that comes out of a mini faucet in the kitchen. I'm sure they test for other things, but this is all I remember.
