Watch out for those ants when gardening

I just went outside to pull some weeds and didn't look to see where I put my leg onto which was a big colony of ants hiding within a chunk of grass. Luckily, we don't have the fire ants here in Virginia, but ants nonetheless and I did get bit because my leg is burning some similiar to a bee sting.
Just be careful because those ants are hard to see sometimes until you pull something up and then presto...you see them, and sometimes too late.

I don't know what it is with the ants this year. We've already got loads of carpenter ants in our house and it's only April. We usually don't see them until summer. I'm afraid we may have to get an exterminator this year, because last year they didn't get tricked by those ant traps at all. Disgusting things!!!!

Thanks for the reminder Charlotte. I live in Florida, it seems like every summer we have a fire ant problem. If you have Over N Out by Sevin it is the best, the absolute best for ants and bugs. It isn't so bad on the environment either. We spread it on our lawn with a spreader.

I have a Bull ant problem in my house. I know, it sounds disgusting! I have a few in my bathroom and master bedroom. They are getting in somehow. I am spraying this house down on the morning we leave for vacation, next week. I don't want a lot of chemicals around the kids.

Lori- I am glad they are not getting into my house..at least not yet. I did have a problem with ladybugs. They were everywhere so I just took the vacuum hose to them and then threw out the bag!
