Wanting Veins to Pop

I was just wondering why bodybuilders try to make their veins stick out? Is it to make them look stronger or what?

I am just trying to understand.

I never had popping veins until I started doing LOTS of pushups and learned how to do chin-ups. Now I have popping bicep veins. Cool!!
Just Do It! :)

I have popping bicep veins too. I love them. The first time I noticed I was so excited I went running to show my SO. He pretended to be impressed:p

Wow! Ladies that is so awesome!! But why do we want these? Is the purpose to look stronger or because you are or what?

Yup. What Marietta said. Mind you, I don't want big bodybuilder popping veins, but it does make me feel strong and lean.

Thank you so much, Marietta! That is what I thought, but wasn't exactly sure.

Shelley-Thank you too. I thought so, but I just wanted to make sure. I don't want to go extreme, but a few would be nice! :p

As you build more muscle, you naturally develop an increase in collateral circulation which is needed to feed the muscle. Then as you loose fat and become lean, the veins are more visible.

Not to change the subject, but my husband is going through paramedic school right now. He is on the prowl for veins and constantly pointing out veins, and if you hold still long enough he will stick a needle in one! He comes home with needles and begs us all to let him practice. My two teenaged boys are really "taking one for the team" when it comes to helping dad start a line!

I have always wanted the bicep vein, but I am having second thoughts at the moment...just another place to get stuck!

I for one would love some bulging veins. When I do Cathe's w/o my 2 boys will always notice her veins in her arms and comment on them, but I tell them Hey, I have veins too look at my hands! Lori BC

Ok, this post made me laugh out loud. I want to stay far far away from Dani's husband!

Oh, and I DO want my veins to pop. There is one Cathe DVD where they do a close up of Jai and her veins are amazing! I just can't think which one right now. mmm the brain is going.

Wow, I have to tell you I am so glad to see this thread! Awhile back someone posted about hating the vein popping phenomenon. I love it! I have some serious blood pumpers in my arms. When I am doing biceps work (thanks Pinky), pull-ups and push-ups they really pop out. Cathe and Jai are the shiznit when it comes to veins for sure!

I also have some serious vein poppage going on. They love me at the blood bank! :p I just like to think it isn't because I am gross, but because I am well hydrated, muscular and so freakin' hot!!! :9

I have a popping vein on my left bicep but not my right. Go figure. I'm not particularly fond of it, but I'd prefer it (or even another one)to no muscle!

You're very welcome, Rogue.:p My hands and forearms are veinier (is that a word?) than my biceps. Given that, I know when my body fat has gone even lower -- since I don't do measurements -- just by how visible the veins in my biceps are. So as far as veins go, I use them as a gauge, and all I have to do is look in the mirror. No numbers. Numbers make me crazy.

I certainly don't want them! If they happen, fine, but I'm not going for the look (I already have them on my hands, but it's not muscle related :-( )

Missy,

O.k., I am jealous now. I can just see mine on my right arm bicep muscle, left is not showing, but they are not popping out tremendously. I know I need to get my body fat down about 2 more percents, but lifting heavier has helped too with veins showing, which I see more now and all the way up forearms. Now if they would only keep going up farther. Still trying. Got veins popping out though off my hips on both sides.

I have big fat veins, but they don't pop anywhere but in the middle of my arm. I'd love to have a bicep one pop.
LOL about your husband, Dani. I am a med tech, and the 1st thing we learned in our internship was how to take blood. I did the same thing with my family as your DH.

Ya'll are so funny!! :D

Now I have another question. Are your veins supposed to be popped all the time or just when you flex or lift?
