I've been running for four years now and I love it. For the past year I've been working on increasing my mileage/speed and because of that I only do Cathe upper body once a week. I haven't worked lower body in FOREVER because it fatigues my legs so much. Well, about three weeks ago I started noticing a lot of discomfort - sore knees, pirformis in my hip etc. I did all of ME Monday and was so sore and weak! I know I need to spend more time on all weights but my cardio endurance will suffer. Anyone else experienced this?

First off I want to say..we are all different therefore different things work for some runners and not others. I have run for about 20 years or so. I find working my upper body very important as I do long distance and want my upper body strong. My suggestion for the lower body for you is use light weights. But, I have in the past done very well running fast and doing heavy weight on my legs. Then the 40's rolled around...:)...now I am doing Freestyle on my lower body and am getting back some strength in my legs as I have lost some due to injuries. So honestly you have to experiment but in my opinion any kind of weight lifting will be beneficial to a female...:)...Carole

I think I'm notorious for complaining about my knees on these boards.

I too run and I know I have to work my legs three times a week if I want to run without problems. But I never work my legs on days I run. Carole's advice to use light weights is great. And strong legs make you run faster too :)
