Walmart barbell weight set -- got a minute for my questions?

I'm looking at the US Weight 55 lbs. Aerobic Weight Set, sold online at Walmart for $19.66. It's a 5lb barbell that comes with 4 10lb plates and 2 5lb plates. Here's the link: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2171148

For those of you who use this--I've got questions!

1.) It's cheap--does that mean a great deal--or *cheap* in a bad way?

2.) Are the plates vinyl covered? If not, does that bother you?

3.) Is the bar 1" in diameter? Will it fit standard weight plates? (I want to add two 2.5 plates)

4.) Do the spring clips do a good job keeping the plates in place? Do the plates rattle or wobble around at all?

5.) Is it a one-piece or two-piece bar?

6.) How long have you owned and used this set?

7.) Do you ever wonder if you should've purchased the Troy Lite set?

I'm a bit tired of going heavy with my dumbbells and am ready for a barbell--just not ready for spending a lot more $$$! I'm excited about this set, IF it's a good one.

Help! ??

Thanks!

I own this set. I want to mention that in one of the forums on this site under equipment reviews or something like that, Step N Motion posts that they use this very set in some of Cathe's videos. If it's good enough for a Cathe video, it's good enough for me. :)

I got mine at amazon.com for about $30 which gave me the free shipping.

Cheap as in its a great deal.

2.) Are the plates vinyl covered? If not, does that bother you?
I think it's vinyl. Not 100% sure.

3.) Is the bar 1" in diameter? Will it fit standard weight plates? (I want to add two 2.5 plates)
Yes, it fits standard weights. I mix and match my standard plates with no problems at all.

4.) Do the spring clips do a good job keeping the plates in place? Do the plates rattle or wobble around at all?
No rattling whatsoever. Easy to change and weights are secure on teh bar with the clips.

5.) Is it a one-piece or two-piece bar?
It comes in the box in 2 pieces but you jam the 2 pieces together to make it one piece. It is designed to never come apart once you put them together. It is a very tight fit although easy to assemble.

6.) How long have you owned and used this set?
Going on 4 months now.

7.) Do you ever wonder if you should've purchased the Troy Lite set?
No. I would like the Troy Lite set but more for vanity over function. The plates are bulky but they work fine.

Thank you! --is it Tess?

That was exactly the input I was looking for. I just ordered the set! I was able to get free shipping with Ship to Store, so with tax I paid $21.01. !!NICE PRICE!!

Can't wait to use it! yay, my first barbell!

Gisela - I own this set as well (mine was slightly more expensive because it comes with more weights) and I love it! It absolutely does it's job. It's an amazing price and I've been nothing but happy with them. I bought additional 5 and 2.5 pound weights to add on and also have no problems with rattling. The bar comes in two pieces, but once I put it together it stays together. I have had mine for about 3 years. They have had a lot of use!
